Had a lovely day sailing around the Bay of Islands on this ship. I got to climb the rigging which was fun, and we stopped around Urupukapula Island in this quiet bay where we got to swim around in lovely blue water. We even spotted an eagle ray. The lunch was a bonus and the crew were all friendly.

Absolutely brilliant from start to finish. Fun day on the R Tucker Thompson. The staff were amazing, the sailing was great and the Bay Of Islands delivered at every turn. Time for a quick walk ashore too and a swim back to the boat which was further than I anticipated against the tide. What an amazing boat!

My other half and I had an incredible time on this boat. Never been on a working tall ship before so it was so interesting to see how everything works. The crew were amazing and so helpful. The food was delicious!
Honestly this trip was such great value for money, but it was also such a novel and liberating experience. I highly recommend booking this trip, you will not regret it! I would book again without a pause if I was staying up here longer! Thanks to all the crew!

We had a wonderful day on the R. Tucker Thompson. Its a beautiful ship and the skipper and crew were fantastic. The scenery was gorgeous and I got many beautiful pictures. It was very comfortable to hang out during the sail and chat with fellow passengers and crew. The lunch was great. We loved our whole day on her and would very happily cruise on her again if we're lucky enough to be back in NZ again. Highly highly recommended! And your fare helps them take youth on week-long sails - what an experience for those kids!

Was a beautiful time with our two children aboard this sailing vessels. The views were spectacular. They accommodated our vegan diet for lunch. I would highly recommend this day trip for families or singles.

DO NOT miss out on THIS what a GREAT way to spend a day on a TALL SHIP. Was my first time on a TALL SHIP, the CAPTAIN was such a nice guy even let some of us Steer the ship for a while WHAT a BUZZ and some great Photo's take.. Just being on it and watching it cut through the water was wonderful.. had a nice CHICKEN B.B.Q washed down with a BEER !! the Crew were great had it all under control everyone had a great time from what I could see. We stopped at one of the Islands most took the Boat to the Island I stayed and enjoyed the SHIP .. WHAT a DAY we all had would love to do it again.. THANK YOU SO MUCH the the Captain and the Crew for making my DAY ..

We boarded at 10am on a perfect day. The crew of Sinead, Charlie & Tom, skippered by Rangi were amazingly friendly from the start. (I've forgotten the other crew member. Sorry.)
The sailing was wonderful and all guests were permitted to participate in sailing the ship. I loved my time at the helm. Dropping anchor at Roberton Island and walking to the the lookout point at the top was great & reasonably easy. Lunch was a delicious ship-cooked healthy salad type. The bonus is all proceeds go to assisting NZ youth.

We had a great day out. We were encouraged to help with hoisting the sails and were allowed to have a go at steering. Some passengers hooked up and climbed the rigging too. During the morning we had scones with jam and cream and there were plenty. We had a lovely stop at an island and were able to swim or walk to a lookout. When we returned to the ship, a lovely chicken and salad lunch was ready for us.
Ben, our skipper was friendly and informative and obviously very experienced. Andre and Tom were both very patient and passionate about the ship and making sure everyone had a great time. The 2 other crew were also lovely. It is an enjoyable day and we are pleased that in supporting this business we are also supporting the company's programs with young people.

A very charming old ship with a great crew. It was wonderful to see the sails coming up! We were lucky to spot dolphins on several occasions.
On the negative side the advertised BBQ consisted of a cold small portion of precooked barbecued chicken and potato salad; I had expected the food to be cooked on site. Furthermore the stop on the beach was very brief; as my wife and I only managed to fit into the last tender leaving the ship we only had 30 minutes onshore… Finally, when leaving the tender, be prepared to walk through water.

Apologies that you did not appreciate the BBQ lunch which is cooked fresh on the ship as passengers that choose to can go ashore to visit and explore an island, beach and swim. We are sorry that you feel you did not have enough time. Our aim for the day is for guests to feel relaxed and unhurried.

Arriving in Dec 2019 via Princess Cruises. Does the Tall Ship share the same port as cruise lines? If not, how far and by what method do we get to your ship?

Hi there. Family is travelling on a NZ Carnival cruise and will arrive at Bay of Islands on 5-02-2019 at 7am. Not sure where the cruise ship will dock or stop. Guessing at Paihai? It departs at 4pm sharp so would we make it back by then so not to miss the ship?
