This was part of our itinerary booked by our travel company. When I saw a 10 hour train ride I thought “ oh no”: However this turned out to be a totally relaxing day in the middle of s very busy trip. Our guide brought us to the station where you are escorted to a very nice VIP lounge with coffee and tea available. Each party is escorted directly to your seats which were very comfortable with a table and lamp in the center. Restrooms in each car nicer than any Amtrak. Breakfast and lunch available by menu are extra. They were easily able to accommodate my need for gluten free foods and brought a basket of delicious moist gluten free bread. At lunch the 3 choices were not gluten free and they offered to prepare something for me. I declined having had a large breakfast. Tea service included. Entertainment during the ride snd nice big windows to watch the country roll by. Got to nap, read etc. Think Orient Express.

Getting to Puno from Cusco will take a lot of time no matter how you do it. For a once of a life time experience, we've decided to put in the extra money and travel in leisure. The cabins make you feel like you are riding the Orient Express and it's a shame you are not surrounded with Brits wearing tall hats. We were pampered but we also had to pay quite a bit (for peru)for extras like 16 bucks for a sandwich. About 4 hours from Puno, the train broke down and we were stuck in nowhere for more than 4 hours!!! From the recorded message in three languages, we concluded it wasn't the first time.by the time we got to Puno, we were more then 15 hours on the train. Australian couple sitting next to us said that it took them that long to get from Sydney to Lima :) Still, the view was lovely, the food was good and indeed a once in a life time.

Realicé el trayecto desde Puno hasta "el Cusco". Las diez horas de viaje se convirtieron en un lujo de experiencias de buen servicio, diversión , bellos paisajes y gastronomía de alto nivel.
El precio es algo más elevado que un boleto de avión pero vale la pena . El tren con casi más empleados de Perurail que pasajeros. Atención óptima desde el mismo momento de llegar a la estación dejar los equipajes y café o infusión antes de subir.
Personal atento y servicial, limpieza del tren óptima y continua durante todo el trayecto, programa de animación muy participativo y entretenido (musica, baile, desfile de moda de alpaca, clase de preparación de "pisco sur" etc, etc,
Almuerzo sublime y buen cóctel de bienvenida. Gracias a todo el personal por habernos dejado disfrutar de esta experiencia inigualable!!! Muy recomendable!!
