Car trip was great, Peter was excellent and took great care to ensure we were comfortable. Regular stops and lovely dinner on way back. Tour guide in the camp was very rushed and didnt allow us enough time to see everything.

We completed this tour on Monday with Petre and it was well worth the 15 hours.
The knowledge he shared with us during the car trip was fantastic about both the Chech Republic and Poland and our dinner in a small hotel was amazing.
We would highly recommend this tour!

We booked this trip at the VERY last minute, but Lucy Tours stayed in contact with us and confirmed a 7:30 pick up. We requested 5am, so we would be back to our hotel before midnight and we were ensured the new time would accommodate. Pietr was our guide and arrived in a clean newer van that was comfortable for a crew of 5 Americans. We slept most of the way to Poland with a stop-off at an updated fuel station that had delicious snacks. Upon arriving in the Auschwitz area, our guide took us to the toilets and paid for our use as we didn't have the currency to do so. Very kind! He guided us to the entrance of the camp, ensured we got all of our information and materials, lead us to an English speaking guide, and informed us where he will be at the end. Our guide didn't go through the camps with us as remembering this history is not something someone wishes to continue to experience.
Our tour started off at Auschwitz I, then we were transported to Auschwitz II extermination camp with the same group we started out with. No review of the camps is necessary, because whatever you think you may know about what went on in the camps, it was actually WAY worse. This experience will never be forgotten.
At the end of the tour, Pietr met us at the transportation van with water and offered to take us to a small town in the Czech to have dinner. This dinner was one of the best we had in all our of European journey. He sat with us and we chatted about life. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with him and hope to go on another tour with him when we return.

I had a week stay in Prague, and wanted to do a day trip to Auschwitz memorial but wasn't sure if it was doable from Prague as a 1 day tour.
On the internet there were a few companies offering this, and I'm glad I came across Lucy Tours.
Firstly the main question I had, was is it doable as a 1 day trip from Prague.
Answer: Absolutely can be done, and was well worth it. You are picked up around 7am, and its about a 5hr drive which whilst long, is a good drive to look at the scenery and also here some information from the tour driver and make it by 1pm for the tour. The approx 3hr's of the tour is enough time to experience Auschwitz, its a very heavy experience and in my opinion I wouldn't really want it to go over the 3 hours as this gives enough time to experience the memorial. The 5hr drive back gives you [plenty of time to really comprehend what you have seen, and with a stop for dinner on the way back the 5hrs seems to go fairly quick. SO if you are questioning whether or not you should do the 1 day tour and is it enough time, I would absolutely recommend to do it.
Secondly, was it worth going with Lucy Tours?
Answer: Its an expensive tour as its private without a group, but is the best way to go as the guide (We had Pieter) was outstanding, and provides all the information you need, and importantly we drove in an excellent vehicle which was clean, Pieter was a very safe and cautious driver so you felt safe the whole time, and I cannot recommend them enough it was absolutely the only way to do it!
Pieter made the whole experience easy and organised, made us feel very comfortable, and provided all the information we needed. He also stopped on the way back in a little village for dinner, and we had the best authentic meal on the trip where I'd say many tourists would not have visited.
If you want to visit Auschwitz and are unsure if its worthwhile for a 1 day trip, don't hesitate. It was an experience that will stay with me for a very long time, and I personally feel the 3hrs is actually adequate as it is a heavy experience, but it is an experience that if your interested is worth using a day for. Being such a long drive my main priority was I wanted to ensure it was a safe trip, and using LUCY TOURS it could not have been any better, and if you get Pieter he will be a wonderful guide (Although I did do another tour in Prague and the guide (Patrik) was also outstanding so I'm sure that whoever Lucy Tours provides you will be looked after. The vehicle was safe, excellent driver ensuring we stopped on the way when needed, was very informative.
5 out 5 experience from a tour perspective and worth every cent!!!

The tour to Auschwitz with an added stop in Krakow was unforgettable. Petr couldn't have been more responsive, gracious, knowledgeable, and thoughtful. He took excellent care of us, making sure we were comfortable, fed, and hydrated. He is an excellent driver and the van was spotless. Petr also has an encyclopedic knowledge of the area and we learned so much from him. We can't wait to return for another tour from this excellent company.

Spent the day with Guide Michael Hanoujek of Lucy Tours. Day started with 0500 am pick up on a drizzly day. Sun rose around 0645 am and were greeted with a beautiful drive through the Czech and Polish countryside. Make a ‘stretch’ break along the way.
Arrive Auschwitz II and Birkenau around 1100 am. Very good and knowledgeable presentation by Michael as we walked the camp. Still drizzling seemed to add to the sadness and gruesomeness of the whole camp. As an American, we acknowledge the horrors of this camp and others like it but then realized that Michael and many others probably had direct connections with people who did not survive the camps.
After touring Camp II, we drove to Auschwitz I. A more restored and preserved camp. No less impacting that Camp II. For this tour, we joined up with an English speaking guide and a group of about 20 other tourist. There were many sensitive parts of this tour. Personal remains that just added to the effects of the devastating in-humane ordeals these people were subject to.
After this two hour tour, we met with Michael and motored over to Krakow. Must admit by this time we were both physically and emotionally drained. Approximately one hour drive to downtown KraKow. Absolutely beautiful old town square. We walked the square and stopped at an outdoor cafe. Though it was about 40 deg F and still drizzling, we ordered a warming and filling Goulash soup. While there we ‘people watched’ and gained more local information from Michael. On way back to the car we did some souvenir shopping. We were to go to the Castle but the rain increased and we were exhausted. We then headed back to Prague. Round trip is about 1000 km / 625 miles. We chatted some more but napped about half the trip. We got back to our hotel in Prague around 2300 hrs. A bit earlier than expected but we chose not to climb to the castle in Krakow. Michael Hanoujek was an excellent guide. It was as if a friend was giving us a personal tour. If/when we got back, we will request Michael again and Lucy tours!!!
