Fun, Local Wine Tour Experience

We had a great time on this wine tour! Grant is a knowledgeable local guide that brought us to some beautiful wineries away from the crowds while also giving us a tour of the island along the way. Grant runs this himself so it was also nice to support a local tour guide.

I booked this tour based on the brilliant reviews I’d seen and it did not disappoint. I wanted a small group tour and surprisingly it ended up being a private tour which was great for us! Our tour guide Grant met us at the ferry terminal and then drove us into the town and allowed us to have a look around and get coffee. The first vineyard we went to we tried 7 wines! Honestly some of the best wine we have tried before and we ended up buying some bottles to take home. The second vineyard we went to is shown in the first photo. We tried 3 wines, not as good as the first vineyard we went to, but paired with a beautiful view and great weather we would’ve stayed longer if we could. The third vineyard we went to had Spanish influence in its decoration and food. We tried 4 wines and a ‘port-style’ wine, all with food pairings. The food pairings really brought out the flavour of the wines, they went amazingly well together. I am more of a white wine drinker but the ‘port-style’ wine was my favourite and was really easy to drink. It is worth noting that all the staff at each of the vineyards were extremely knowledgable about their wines. They explained their wine making process, the flavours of each wine and the ageing and bottling of their wines. It was also great to have a guide who knew so much about Waiheke Island. Grant provided some commentary and facts about the island as we drove around, took us to a great lunch spot that all the locals love and when he found out that I preferred white wine, he decided to take us to a different vineyard to suit me (instead of a majority red wine vineyard that was originally planned). Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our day, I highly recommend this tour, it is important to support the locals and you will have a great experience choosing this tour.

A Perfect Day

Great introduction to island and its wineries. Small group of 7 perfect size and gelled well. Good detail about island life and background from Grant as a local. 3 interesting and varied wineries. Grant even organised perfect weather. Thoroughly recommend.

Wonderful Waiheke ..and wine.

Great day of drinking wine and learning about Waiheke Island. Our guide was so knowledgeable about the island, the residents, the art and the wine. We just learned bed it. Wish we had stayed a couple of days on the island.

Great day out!

We went as a group of 4, with another 2 groups we had a party of 9. We had a great time, Grant was relaxed, informative and enthusiastic about the island and wine. It was a good mix of scenery and wine tasting, with a great lunch at the end.

Book this tour! You will not be disappointed

All the + things you read about this tour and Grant are absolutely true! We were lucky to be with 2 other couples ,and we all got along so well. It was a shame the day had to end. Grant was generous with his time and very knowledgeable and passionate about Waiheke. The 3 boutique wineries were very different from one another but each had something to offer. The last one Passage was also where we ate lunch and enjoyed each other and great wine.

Great experience!

What a great day. Grant picked us up at the ferry and away we went. Was a small, fun group. Grant was full of great information and took us to 3 amazing wineries. The wines were impressive, the winemakers always made an extra effort to spend time with us. Highly recommended way to see Waiheke.

Great taste of Waiheke Island

We had a fabulous day on Waiheke Island. Grant was an excellent host and tour guide. He communicated clearly prior to the tour so we knew how to get to the island and the pickup point. We had a "locals" tour of the island, with beautiful views and sites. We visited three excellent wineries, one of which had to be scheduled at the last minute due to a cancellation that morning. Grant did not disappoint. I highly recommend the experience with Grant. It is not your typical mass-produced wine tasting.

The proposal in the vineyard

I thought this was going to be an exciting day because we were wine tasting our way through Waiheki Island! We were looking forward to the store very much because we heard the island was very beautiful with so much land in animals and culture. We also heard the wine and cheese selection were amazing.

And the day started with a seamless pick up, and a quick stop in the town of Oneroa. Following we had to passage rock winery, which was our first stop. my fiancé was so amazed by the beauty of the location that he decided it was the perfect moment to propose. So he proposed the arch and it was just absolutely perfect.

The rest of the day was a great day our group bonded after the proposal and enjoyed more glasses of wine at a number of vineyards. We also had the chance to pair cheese bread and honey with the wine and addition we had lunch at a local café near the beach. The oysters were super fresh for lunch, and we also had some ceviche.

This is such a magical day and the beauty of Waiheki is unmatched. It’s such a chill vibe. You get the island vibe, but also the beauty and the nature of the island. The wine was delicious. I left a little tipsy, but didn’t wake up with any hangovers or anything. It’s very nice high-quality wine and you get a little background about each of the places and the wines associated with them.

Grant our guide was very friendly, super chill, and he even drove us back to town because we wanted to grab a few souvenirs to remember the day and our special moment.
