Our tour guide and bus driver were awesome. They did the stops in a very thought through way to intentionally avoid 8th graders and to chase the sun (or wait for dark) for some great photos. It was so great to see the most popular memorials in one bus ride! That alone is worth the price. The added info from Sally was a bonus. The stops were short (our group felt rushed) but that’s understandable since they are getting you to so many places on one tour. Thank you for a great evening.

James our tour guide was amazing! Chris our driver was very thoughtful in which order we saw everything. So we could have the best experience.

The driver Chris was an excellent driver, kind and efficient. He worked hard to keep everyone safe getting on and off of the bus and crossing the streets. James, the guide was knowledgeable and funny. The tour seemed rushed because it was so crowded at the various stops (Memorial Day). Several things to know: there was a moderate amount of quick walking for handicapped or elderly persons and the bus is not in the same location after drop off so you can't just turn back and wait at the bus. It was a bit strenuous for my 79 year old mom to get on and off the bus and move through the crowds.

The tour is a bit pricey for what you get. I know to read reviews before I take another tour. The tour guide is informative but nothing spectacular.

Loved that we stopped at the big items like Lincoln memorial and White House. Appreciated that they waited til end of tour to see these particular locations for best ambiance. Our guide, James, was a little too causal in his delivery for my liking. We LOVED our tour guide, Duane, earlier on the Capitol tour as he was very well spoken and passionate about his job, and never stopped sharing new information. James's greeting was pretty rough/blunt as we entered the bus, catching many people by surprise. His urban dialect was often hard to understand throughout the tour, and his loudspeaker was usually faced away from the group when walking, making it hard to hear. He ofter repeated facts which seemed like time-filler, and had to correct himself a couple times on inaccurate statements when pointing out landmarks. He also took time to point- out and discuss the highly political/controversial Black Lives Matter street??

Confused about the add-on self-guided tour of the Washington Monument for the next day: is this a guaranteed spot to ride to the top?

The best way to ride to the top of the Washington Monument is to book it online. It costs a dollar per person to do so, using the parks service at the recreation.gov website. (Just Google it)
You can book about a month in advance for a particular slot but you will probably need to try to book each day at about the time the tickets are released. From memory this is about 10am local time. This is what I did and it took 4 attempts (4 days). The next best option is probably to go to the ticket office by the monument but you need to be there early: the time depends on the time of year. You can then take pot luck and try to get tickets for that day. The night tour you refer to will sell you a "free" ticket, which they presumably pre-ordered, as an add on to the tour. This is obviously an expensive way to do it but if you are too late to apply online before your visit to Washington, or you do not wish to queue first thing in the morning, it is a way to go up the monument. The tickets are for a stipulated time. Once you are up there, you may stay as long as you like to enjoy the view. It was good weather on the day we went and it was well worth the trip. Good luck. While we were visiting Washington DC, we stayed at the Holiday Inn Alexandria - Carlyle. It is off of the Eisenhower Stop of the Yellow Line. You can see the hotel from the platform. We ate our meals in DC, and took the train back to the Hotel.

It is entirely up to you. Towards the end I stayed on the bus as I was getting too tired and too cold😂 Having said that if you or somebody from your party is planning to stay on the bus the entire time I would look at other options where you have better visibility from the bus and maybe more spacious one than the one we had.
what is the hotel pickup list? we are staying at the capitol hill hotel. is that on the list?
