My two adult sons and I enjoyed the Xunantunich Mayan ruins and cave tubing with Belize Caving Expeditions, but what really made it great was our guide, Bryton. I have taken trips to Hawaii, Mexico, Scandinavia, and throughout the Caribbean, and he is one of the best two guides that I have ever had.

We did a full day combo tour with Miguel and it was fantastic. Miguel is a fountain of knowledge and he was happy to share some if it with us. My wife is legally blind and Miguel did and incredible job in making sure she enjoyed her day. With his help she was able to get to the top of the tallest pyramid with the rest of us.

Went horseback riding and touring Xunantunich with Edgar today. He was a wonderful guide: very knowledgeable, a good storyteller and funny. With lunch and transfer included, our group really had the best, well-organized day in San Ignacio.

Excellent overall experience, our transportation/guide was Miguel Nabet and he was absolutely the best. Excellent conversation, first time visiting advice and knowledge of the area. Overall just a great person.

We had Edgar P take us on a horseback riding trip then onto xunantunich. I contacted the company very last minute ( 8pm the night before) but they had availability and arranged a trip for us mid-day. The horseback riding was on well trained horses and it followed a beautiful trail along the Mopan river and through some fields. We got to ride by a hidden Mayan city called Buena Vista which felt like finding undiscovered ruins in the jungle. Then we were given a traditional lunch which was very tasty and was more than enough food. After lunch we went across the ferry to xunantunich and our guide was very knowledgeable. Our tour was private (just my husband and I), reasonably priced, and Edgar shared with us all kinds of knowledge about jungle plants, the local people, and Mayan customs.

My granddaughter and I followed up our ATM tour by using the Belize Caving Tour company again. ( thanks for helping us Eric)
We spent the day on a 2 part tour that included a horse ride on a farm adjacent to the Mopan River in the Cayo district, and an afternoon hike through Xunantunich. Note: we did a total of 6 guided tours on our vacation and interestingly, we both chose this day as our favorite! The horses were well trained. The land, jungle and river were beautiful. We road through countryside, saw farm animals and learned about the birds, trees, Mayan mounds, Mayan reservoirs, and then explored a lost Mayan village . I literally had tears of astonishment and joy for experiencing that moment. Our guide, Edward was professional, kind and super knowledgeable. Our driver, Edgar made us feel safe and served a delicious lunch before our afternoon at Xunantunich.
Note for other travelers:
I read "don't bring jeans" due to Belize heat. I think it must have been written by people only touring San Pedro or Caye Caulker.
Wear long pants, (yes, jeans) , and close toed shoes. I wore my hiking shoes and used them on the ride and at Xunantunich.
Bring a swimsuit if you want to refresh in the river. You'll have a couple chances!!
Yes to hat, bug spray and sunscreen (if you have sensitive skin). Although I didn't need sunscreen and we were under the canopy for most of the ride.
Xunantunich in the afternoon was a good plan. I found out most people tour there in the AM. We distantly saw only one other group of 3 or 4 people.
I think the other horse ride combos ride to Xunantunich on the roadway, get off at the ferry and then take the tour of Xunantunich. This is a double tour at separate areas that aren't adjacent.

We did a combo tour with this and the cave tubing. It was a fabulous day! Francisco was so knowledgeable and his love of Belize’s culture and nature was evident. It is obvious he is respected and well known in the community and among the other tour guides.
Francisco also did our transfer from Belize City to Cristo Rey. It was like a bonus tour and orientation to the area :) highly recommend!
