This was an amazing adventure with our guides Ron and Brenna! A must when you are visiting Kona. First time snorkeling for us. Safety is a number one priority. Our guides were very well informed and entertaining as well! An awesome experience for us! We highly recommend this tour! You will not be disappointed!

We loved this tour. We had an excellent captain named Aryn. She was so knowledgeable about the area and created a great adventure for everyone on board. I would highly recommend this tour.

Marco and crew provided us with an absolutely amazing experience. All 3 were super knowledgeable and friendly, filled with great stories, endless information about the many critters, and loads of history about the area.
They took the time to explain everything and help out folks that had any reservations about the experience (which seemed to dissolve very quickly).
The bay itself was just incredible. We are fairly seasoned snorkelers, and the diversity of species, the incredible history, and shear beauty of the area are breathtaking and unlike anything we’ve experienced. The care and concern they demonstrate, combined with true Aloha sprit was much appreciated.
We even caught a glimpse of a Humpback, explored some very cool areas along the coast thanks to that zodiac, and learned a bunch about this amazing island.
This trip, it was just my wife and I on our 25th anniversary trip… but we will most definitely be back with the kids soon, and will be booking again through Captain Zodiac. These folks are awesome

The ride was brutal. We had no life vest during the ride. We had to hold the rope around the boat and hold a handle in the boat, as well as having feet under the rope a security. There was a total of 18 people in the boat (zodiac). It was very thighs. The ride to the spot took 50 minutes. So brutal we all were soar the next day. The snorkeling was good. There other boat that go there, it seems a better ride as well as for safety. Be aware.

We are sorry to hear that the conditions may have made for a rough ride that day. Both our captains and crew spend ample time on the water so they can usually comfortably navigate through any kind of weather. No life jackets are required on any of our Coast Guard compliant vessels, but if a guest ever feels more comfortable wearing one our Captain/crew will get them set with one. We are happy to hear you enjoyed snorkeling the bay, and hope you enjoyed your time on Big Island.

This trip was so much fun!! The zodiac was fun to ride in and we visited/learned about many interesting features of the island along the way. The snorkeling was amazing - so many beautiful fish and there was plenty of space to explore in the water. Rick and Davonte were fabulous guides - funny and knowledgeable and super nice!! I highly recommend this for all ages!!

Great experience, Captain Rick gave us nice information and was a save trip captain. Miss B(renda) (who als lived in Den Haag, Netherlands) took good care for her guests. Great hospitality and both very nice people.
I can surely advise this trip if you're looking for some action on the water.
The snorkling are was good but not special. Lot of snorkling people!

What an amazing way to start off a trip to the Big Island! My husband and I were fortunate enough to have Miranda and Captain Rick taking care of us on this tour to Captain Cook's monument. We enjoyed the adventurous ride with beautiful views of the ocean and landscape. The weather and current couldn't have been more perfect. I would recommend a secure hat with strong drawstrings. No sights of dolphins or whales that morning but that's fine. Captain Rick was very informative throughout the experience where we made different stops along the way to and from the monument. He was great about anticipating our every need and we felt safe. We arrived and got to enjoy the snorkeling for some time before the other tours appeared. We saw a diverse range of sea life and an abundance of coral in pristine clarity. We were lucky enough to find an eel and eagle ray. There was about an hour of snorkeling allowed and Captain Rick made sure to still keep an eye on us and help accommodate our needs during this time. My husband is a fairly new to snorkeling with bad vision and the Captain assisted him with the snorkel mask/goggles. He also provided us the rules and tips on where to go and what to look for. All in all this was a 10/10 experience and would recommend Captain Rick and Captain Zodiac Raft Expeditions to anyone visiting the Big Island

Brenna and Patrick were amazing so good with our kids who are 7, 10, and 13. I’ve been all over the world doing these kind of tours. Brenna and Patrick were the best guides I’ve had on any tour in the world by far.

Erin and Marco were amazing! The tour was likely the best snorkeling tour we have ever done. You could see so many fish and the water was beautifully blue. Erin was incredibly knowledgeable about the island and a great captain. Marco was so helpful and together they were a great team. My husband and I highly recommend this tour.

can you please tell me approximately how much time is spent on the boat ride? I get seasick very easily :-(

You certainly don't have to get in the water to snorkel if you don't want to, but I doubt you'll see much or any marine life that way. There are other tours with glass bottom boats and even a small submarine that would better suit your interests.

Most of the time. This may not be for you because the motorized craft goes very fast, makes quick turns, and can be rough in choppy seas. Most of our group enjoyed the ride, but there was one person who was fighting seasickness.

If the 10 a.m. departure is "beat the crowd," is that because most people go out early in the morning and the somewhat later departure arrives at Captain Cook Monument after the early birds have departed? Is there a downside to the later departure to consider? For example, is one more likely to see dolphins and other sea life on an early departure, or does time of day not matter?

We did the early bird and it took most of the day and lunch snacks were provided. We saw reef sharks and a ton of beautiful fish. There was a crowd leaving as we arrived and one arriving about when we left. The only thing I wish I would have known is to put on a ton of sunscreen before you get in the boat because they won’t let you use it. They won’t let you were a hat either. I would have worn my sun shirt the whole time. Have fun!!
