Awesome. Taken to top in van. Stopped several times for great views and photos. Biked 12-13 miles downhill at up to 40 mph on bikes with fat tires and disk brakes. Don't do this if you haven't taken a bike ride in 30 years! But if you are a competent biker, this ride is superb! One of the highlights of our stay on Kauai.

The basics: you meet in Hanapēpē, get a quick introduction, drive for an hour up Waimea Canyon with several stops for views and photos, drive part way back down, bike about 12 miles to ocean, are given drinks, and they drive you back to Hanapēpē.
Having never been before, this was a great introduction to Waimea Canyon. Our very knowledgeable guides told stories and provided information about the Canyon during the drive and knew the best spots to stop for photos. By the time it came to biking, this was almost secondary to the guided tour we had to the Canyon.
The biking was almost all downhill and really wasn't "biking," more like coasting and braking. Lots of braking. The guides were very knowledgeable about bikes, fitted you to the right one, adjusted your seat, and helped (if needed) with your helmet. Biking gloves were also provided. Then one guide starting biking; everyone followed in a line with the van following at the rear keeping any cars at bay. Most of biking was on a second road up the Canyon so traffic was light.
The biking was fun, but the best part was jus seeing the Canyon.

Excellent tour and bike ride down Waimea Canyon! The tour guides were exceptional! Very knowledgeable about the island, its history, the canyon itself and area we were cycling. They were informative, funny and safety focused. Lots of information was offered about hikes, other potential tour experiences, and great places to eat! Ernesto was also a great photographer. Mahalo for an excellent experience!

Our guides were absolutely great! It would’ve been fun even without them, but with them it was a blast!!
They were very informative on the “tour” and the bike ride was really fun.
They helped everyone capture some photos, recommended some dining places for after the tour, and were very attentive to the group

We LOVED this tour!!! It was such a fun way to see Waimea canyon. The bike ride was all down hill on a road and we felt extremely safe. (I will say you do need to be comfortable on a bike going down a paved hill with turns!) Our tour guides Ernesto and Tom were sooooo awesome, funny and knowledgeable. They made sure we all were safe on the bike ride and look out spots. They gave us amazing recommendations for the rest of our trip too! We feel so grateful to have met them. They truly care about their tour groups safety and experience, plus they respect Kauais history and the nature on the island. If I could give them 6/5 stars I would!!!

The ride itself was more about coasting and braking than pedaling so if you like coasting down mountain switchbacks with speed then this is the ride for you. If you're looking for more of a cardio workout then this is not for you. Ride up had some nice stops for vistas of the canyon and good info on the area and history. It was clear that safety was the main point of the ride and there was little to no traffic we needed to deal with. Not so scenic on the way down but probably to be expected when needing to focus on the road.

From the start our experience with Keko Adventure was awesome! Even though our planned bike tour was interrupted with rain, cloud cover, we were treated fabulously and were offered a refund and the option to not make the journey downhill in the rain. Enrique and his partner were both great to work with! Definitely recommend their team!!!

Spectacular views and an amazing crew that supported the ride and served as tour guides! The ride was fast and fun and ended in a beautiful sunset.

Since you don't have to peddle much at all, the size of the bike doesn't really matter. That said, I do not work for this company, so I suggest you send them an e-mail with your question, just to be sure. If for some reason they say no, I highly recommend researching the best hiking trails, renting a car and driving up there to hike instead. You get some the same views that the expensive helicopter tours provide. Enjoy your trip!

If the 10 year old has been riding for a while it should be fine. I am not sure but there might be a height minimum to fit the bike to the rider. It is all downhill so you are braking quite a bit.

My husband and I plan visit the island of Kauai around Labor Day of this year and are considering this tour. Trip Advisor description says it terminates at Kekaha Beach.
A web search says that the Kekaha Beach State Park is permanently closed.
Is that a problem???

No. We still ended at the shore. It was rocky but we watched the sunset and had a beer on them.

how does this compare to the Haleakaia bike tour in Maui? in terms of speed, rigor,safety?

I just did both rides last week. The Waimea Canyon ride is a little less than half the distance of the Haleakala ride on Maui. The Haleakala tour starts at 3:00am, while this one starts at 3:00pm. The speed is the same for both rides, but you can go as fast or as slow as you'd like. While both companies do a great job with safety, I definitely felt safer on the Waimea Canyon ride because the van you ride up in is blocking traffic behind you the entire time. When you get over, the tour guide in front is radioed and he brings everyone to a stop together. Conversely, in Maui, you have to be aware and get over for cars to pass (there is no van blocking the traffic). I hope this helps! Have fun!

Is this all on paved roads with car traffic passing by? Also, at any point do we need to ride uphill? Will we be allowed to stay until sunset at the beach and then returned to our origination destination?

The van ride takes you to the top and the vast majority of the ride is downhill on the paved road - Whee! They made us feel safe on the road - Ernesto was on his bike leading the way while Tom, driving the van brought up the rear. When car(s) were waiting, Tom would radio ahead and Ernesto would guide us over to the shoulder and let them pass.
We make it safely to the beach and remained until sunset when they returned us to the pick-up point. Wonderful experience and unforgettable memories!

How long is the van ride before the bicycling? How big is the elevation climb? Prone to car sickness.

Going to the top of the canyon, the roads can be a little bit winding. If you're prone to car sickness, let Ernesto know and you can sit toward the front where it is easier to manage. This happened on our trip and Ernesto moved to the middle of the van so the nauseous passenger could have the front.
