I would say you should at least have some physical exercises, specifically walking a long distance of at least 8 hrs a day. Doing park walking and a little climbing in the evening around your home or nearby golf area can add significant credit to summit Uhuru peak. Also, depending on the route you are taking, most of the camping routes are easy since you spend many days on the mountain which allows your body to adopt the new elevation as you go up.

Most of the tour operators will provide tents for camping routes and price quote given by an operator normally covers that. For Mount Kilimanjaro hiking, Marangu route is on the route with huts options and the rest are camping/tents routes.

Again, depending on the route, If you are using the Marangu route, if your hotel is in Moshi town, you should expect to leave your hotel around 9 AM. However, some clients like to start early to avoid crowded registration at the entry gate. Getting back from the mountain greatly depends on your pace but you should take a note that you will be descending from Horombo huts to the gate (skipping the Mandara huts) which means it will be a long day of descending. In general, I can say people start to arrive at Marangu gate from 12:30 (fast movers) and continue to 4 PM. Drive from the gate to Moshi town is about 50 minutes. If your hotel is in Arusha, prepare 1hrs and a half to two to arrive.
