The trip was amazing, made even better by the excellent support from the entire Trek2Kili team. We were well taken care of - from the medical checks to the high-quality of food. I would highly recommend using Trek2Kili to anyone thinking of climbing Kilimanjaro.

Our team was amazing! From Iza keeping us organized to David aka paparazzi documenting the trip with photos to Hussein making sure we were not pressuring our mind to Chef keeping our bellies full- we were well cared for! And all the amazing porters and guides who kept us safe, comfortable and having fun- they quickly became friends we will never forget. Every bit of our trip was designed to prepare us for climbing the mountain and to enjoy the beautiful culture and environment of Tanzania. I look forward to returning again one day and would recommend this amazing team for your climb!

Trek2Kili makes you feel like family as you trek the mountain. Our guides and support team kept the energy positive every day; in fact, making the summit was overshadowed by forming meaningful relationships with our team along the way. My friend and I also squeezed in a trip to Mkomazi NP and a coffee farm—both were wonderful experiences. Iza is super kind and accommodating, and you can feel good knowing he cares for his staff like they are family. I guarantee you will have an amazing experience working with Trek2Kili!

Trek2Kili puts customer service front and center in all they do and are great to work with. Their goal is to support each person to achieve their goal, whether it's safely reaching the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, or seeing the animal and plant communities in the Serengeti without disturbing them. Guides including Andrew, Farida (such an amazing woman!) Raja, Hussein, Coleman, Elia, Emmanuel, Josephat really care about each person. The porters, waiters, and chefs also took such good care of us, helping us get from place to place and preparing such delicious meals. The joy and energy everyone brings is contagious and helped me make it through times when I felt discouraged or tired. I have climbed the mountain and been into the Serengeti with Trek2Kili twice and I hope to return. I so appreciate all of their work that resulted in very meaningful experiences. Thank you to the entire Trek2Kili team! Highly recommend this company.

I can't recommend Trek2Kili enough. We did an 8 day Lemosho hike, and everyone in our party summited. The logistics of the whole hike, from airport landing to departure and all steps in between, were flawless and required no effort on my part. Iza even coordinated a last minute extra trip to the airport (read: the car was waiting for me at the hotel 10 minutes after I send Iza the email) to rescue my lost backpack. The hotel that Trek2Kili arranged for us before and after the trek was fantastic. I was most impressed with the team on summit day, which worked like a well oiled machine. The team was incredibly well prepared and sang us encouraging songs up the entire mountain. Not only is this impressive from a cardiopulmonary standpoint, but it made a huge difference in our morale as we trudged up the summit route in the dark. Don't let this fool you into thinking that they took summit day lightly - Andrew was laser focused and evaluating everyone constantly for the many medical complications that can arise during such a difficult ascent. He did this silently, professionally, and then did not hesitate to spring into appropriate action when warranted. The whole team then met us on the descent route with juice and hugs before we got back to base camp. I didn't see these extra touches from any of the other trekking companies we saw on the mountain. Our guides, Andrew and Colman, worked pure magic by getting us to the summit EXACTLY at sunrise so that one member of our party could propose to his girlfriend (she said yes)!

Critically, it felt like our money made a big difference when we chose Trek2Kili. It's owned by a Tanzanian man who is a former guide, and his team is made up of his former porters, co-guides, and their friends. In other words, people want to work for Trek2Kili because they're treated right by the company. The camp was full of laughter and smiles, and it's clear this wasn't an act put on for the tourists. We were personally thanked by many crew members for choosing Trek2Kili because our choice meant we were supporting their families.

      Unsolicited advice:
      - drink of choice on the mountain: Puma Milk (three scoops milk powder, one teaspoon honey, hot water). Don't knock it till you try it.
      - bring an empty Ziploc bag in your pocket while hiking, and put your used toilet paper in it. (This isn't necessary at camp, just if you need to take a potty break while on the trail) Pack that out and throw it away in your post-summit hotel. It's quite sad how littered the mountain is with used toilet paper.

We had a great time, and I'd do it all over again with Trek2Kili. #TeamPuma

My wife, Sarah, and had planned an extensive sabbatical of travel and wanted to include climbing Kilimanjaro along the way. We planned to meet up with Sarah's sister and her boyfriend (now fiance after a summit proposal!) to climb together. After extensive searching, we found Trek2Kili. It was important that we select a Tanzanian company who is also a member of KPAP (Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project). Trek2Kili fit all of these criteria but also did so for a competitive price with use of expert guides and happy porters.

Starting with our guides, Andrew and Coleman, we really clicked after a day of hiking. Andrew has extensive experience with over 25 years of working on Kilimanjaro doing every job on the mountain. He went back to school to become a guide and it shows. He could name the flora and fauna easily and would engage us in history of the area, ecosystems, caldera, climate, and dormant volcano itself. Coleman was the character to Andrew's straight man. He was funny, engaging, and friendly. He was ready to take pictures, would offer to do so with your phone, and knew when to suggest a great vista point. Overall, we loved their interaction, camaraderie, and obvious respect for one another, the mountain, and its guests, us. As for safety, it was clear Andrew understood the signs of altitude sickness and its mild to severe complications. He was prepared to facilitate medication administration based on what you brought and your doctor's instructions, but he made it clear he could not act as physician. It was very professional and did not feel like a dodge of responsibility. We felt very safe in his hands should something go wrong like we saw in other groups.

As for food, we were fed three meals a day that was more than plenty. You were suggested to bring snacks, but most would be fine without. Candy, energy gels, or other favorites for summit day would be a good idea if you felt strongly about it. They cleaned plenty of water as the melting glacier water is soiled from hiker sewage (an unfortunate side effect of Kilimanjaro's popularity). You can bring a filter, but we were always able to refill our three CamelBaks, water bottles, and a miniature hydration sac for around 8.5L in total twice daily. You also had ample juice, hot water for tea, coffee, hot chocolate, etc. The biggest problem was feeling thirsty enough to drink it all!

Regarding equipment, our tents were well-worn but functional (Iza plans to replace them next season), and we did not feel exposed at high altitudes bringing the correct clothing. You will be cold and should pack many layers as they suggest. I would strongly suggest high-altitude or cold weather liners for your sleeping bag. A huge bonus was being provided hot water for washing our face, feet, and hands after finishing hiking and just before bed if we liked. This was by far the greatest luxury on the mountain! We still brought cleaning wipes, however, and would suggest you do as well. Just please trash in and trash out!

This was an excellent aspect of Trek2Kili: they collected all trash and brought it out with us. The mountain, sadly, is filthy--particularly on summit day. Hand warmers, toilet paper, candy wrappers, and other plastic detritus litters the landscape. We spoke at length with our guides about this, and they lamented the little support the Tanzanian government provides to clean the mountain. However true that may be, we hope that all future hikers can simply pocket their trash and bring it with them! At least search for a group that enforces that such as Trek2Kili.

As mentioned earlier, the porters were very happy, joking, singing, and getting along with one another throughout our journey despite their very challenging and rigorous job. They are paid double by Iza what other porters are even without tip, and a KPAP porter is enlisted to ensure that their regulations are followed. We never felt they were being abused, and they were fed three meals and given a place to sleep unlike so many other hiking companies who are not members. Please cross check your company with the KPAP website before booking if that is important to you! Two porters came to summit with us in case we wanted to give our bags up from the challenge. They also carried hot water and oxygen in case they were needed--another incredible luxury. They even had a pair of pliers to fix my wife's hiking pole, which had become stuck in the collapsed position from the rapid temperature change!

As for the route, I recommend reading AllTrails or cross referencing other hiking blogs for details, but we initially signed up for an eight-day route on Lemosho. However, we were able to complete it in six days given our pace. We may not have done so had Andrew not suggested we were capable, and this was another great thing about his experience. We felt comfortable that we weren't overextending ourselves too early in the hike. Wonderfully, Iza paid for our additional hotel nights and meals since we finished early. He paid the porters for eight days still, and we felt particularly accomplished because the entire crew was able to get home to their families sooner than expected. We still remember their cheers when Andrew told them. This made the hard work of hiking that much more special.

I know this review is long, but TL;DR: Trek2Kili is great! It may cost a bit more than budget trekking companies, but it is a Tanzanian-owned operation based locally and is a member of KPAP with great guides, happy porters, solid equipment, and plenty of food and water. If your body is able, you will reach the summit, and if you go with Trek2Kili, you'll have a great time doing it. We highly recommend them and would use them again!

The best experience I have ever had! The Trek2kili team & Iza took such great care of each and every one of us. They made the entire trip easy, fun and safe for our group. This is my nonprofit’s third time climbing Kilimanjaro with them and we will ALWAYS come back!

Iza and his crew are awesome!!! Both the safari and the trek exceeded my expectations. We did Kili, the Oldvapai Gorge, the Ngorongoro Crater, and the Serengeti over the course of about 12 days. The guides were knowledgeable and attentive without being too "much". The guide team struck a good balance.

Iza's connections and logistics are superb. My luggage had been misplaced by the airline. He was able to retrieve it and porter it up the mountain to meet me at the second camp AND had a contingency plan regarding gear rental if my luggage had not been located. This allowed me to stay with my group and start the hike; and be confident that I would have a crack at the summit and be able to enjoy the experience without worrying about gear.

Trek2Kili is tied to a certification that supports good working conditions for porters and guides. Trek2Kili porters are paid well and outfitted well. They are highly trained and knowledgeable about the environments they are guiding in and showed a love for them.

My experience had the potential to not go well; and Iza and his team were able to make it work, and basically save my trip. It was truly the trip of a lifetime. I would highly recommend them.

I have been using Trek2Kili for Serengeti safaris with my students since 2011. I just completed my 3rd Kilimanjaro Climb as a fundraiser for Tanzania Development Support on July 24th. Iza Msuya and his Trek2Kili crew have never been less than excellent in delivering a high quality experience, whether the safari or the trek.

I love the fact that Trek2Kili was a leading trek firm to set humane working conditions for porters--which many firms do not abide. Trek2Kili porters are treated with respect and are paid well. This is important for our NGO as we climb Kili to raise funds for our Tanzania projects.

The Serengeti drivers are highly skilled and trained in the ecology and habits of the wildlife, You get more than "there's a zebra." How do snake eagles catch a venomous snake without getting bit? Ask a Trek2Kili driver....

Will be back in July 2022 with students on another Trek2Kili safari through the Serengeti after a stop at Old Dupai Gorge. Can't wait!

You cannot do better than Trek2Kili.
