We had an excellent time travelling with Yama Tours on this northern adventure. We learned much about Ethiopia and saw sights we never imagined. We sat with Galadriel baboons, saw the rock churches, and experienced some of the culture and history of this part of Ethiopia. Shato, Daniel and other guides were very helpful and informative. We felt safe, enjoyed the food, and the accommodations. We recommend Yama Tours and are grateful for the service they provided. Thank you.

Very good tour company.
We did tours of Lalibella, Gondar, and Harar. The tour guides and destinations were excellent. Lalibela was dream-like. The Blue Nile Falls were fantastic but VERY muddy (pack accordingly, if you can). The Lake Tana monasteries were fascinating. Harar was incredible, with a great guide. The hotels were either good or the best available in the town (not every town has a good hotel--especially Harar, check out the Lonely Planet for some entertaining reading on this). Our driver from Harar-Addis was fantastic (even though the drive itself wasn't--more below--but that wasn't his fault at all).
The only suggestion I'd make:
We flew one direction to Harar, and Yama recommended we drive back to Addis to see the landscape. I would recommend flying both directions. We had ZERO bad experiences in Lalibella, Gondar, and Addis (walking EVERYWHERE in Addis with no one bothering us), but the ride back from Harar was really bad. The roads were okay, actually, but it was: 1. very long (9 hours or so), 2. on a festival day, 3. most negatively, full of ridiculous police stops (literally over 20 of them) with, to put it politely, varying degrees of professionalism (some of the "cops" (many un-uniformed) were clearly high, actively chewing chaat). So, fly both directions and avoid all of this! And the landscape is fantastic all over Ethiopia, so this drive isn't worth it, if you can afford to fly, and we'd seen quite a bit of it on the drive from Dire Dawa.
But I'd highly recommend Yama Tours, all of the above destinations, and Ethiopia!

We are a family of two adults and two teenagers who booked the historic Northern circuit without knowing much about Ethiopia. The guides were knowledgeable, professional and on time every single time. The vehicles were all well-maintained and clean and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves during the trip. We hope to come back to this beautiful country again and will not hesitate to engage Yama tours again.

I was a solo, female traveller, visiting Ethiopia for the first time. The itinerary allowed me to get the most of my seven days and see lots of local life. I changed the trip slightly half way through and this was accommodated with ease by Yama tours. I was even treated to lunch on the last day by the company. I felt safe and secure and learnt so much about Ethiopia from their knowledgeable guides. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone travelling to this beautiful country.

Last month I travelled to Ethiopia, and I cannot stop raving about my trip to everyone back home.
The landscape was beautiful, the people were warm and welcoming, and the history/architecture were remarkable.
From the beginning, everything was easy and well organized. We wanted to do a modified version of the 7 Day trip/North historic route, and Mr. Tarik was extremely amenable when accommodating all of our requests. From the quick email responses, to giving us general practical information in advance, we already felt very comfortable before we even landed in Addis.
All the guides and drivers speak English proficiently, so the conversations flowed easily. The guides were more than happy to share information about Ethiopia, as well as giving insights to the culture and history. If you’re lucky enough to have Tila as your guide around Gondar, consider yourself very lucky—he consistently went above and beyond our expectations to make sure we had an amazing time. Both he and Sayid were extremely thoughtful, attentive, and engaging…it just felt really relaxed and fun, like your friends were taking you around and showing you their city.
Would definitely recommend Yama for their professionalism and for curating high quality, authentic experiences!

We had an amazing trip with YAMA Tours for seven days in Northern Ethiopia: Lalibela, Semien Mountains, Gondar, Bahir Dar. High quality hotels and high quality guides as well as very well organised. We can only give YAMA Tours our greatest recommendation.

Yama Tours and Mr. Tarik were amazing to deal with. Our tour of the historic northern cities was probably the most interesting we’ve ever taken. So much history, explained so clearly by our guides. Each stop offered a new guide and new driver, who took very good care of us indeed. Our hotels were great. Highly recommended!

We had a great experience with Yama Tours. Tarik is extremely responsive with email and never failed to write back promptly during the planning stages of our trip, even several months out. We opted for the standard Northern Tour with a side trip to Tiya.
A guide and a driver met us at each city. All the guides and most of the drivers spoke English fluently. All of Yama Tour's guides were punctual. Local guides (unaffiliated with Yama Tours) were set up at several of the sites, which seemed redundant as we had our main guide - but I guess this is standard and required for many of the sites.
On our last day in Addis, we requested to see the newly opened Unity Park and Yama quickly informed the guide to try to take us. As the park opened a week before, it was not familiar to tour companies or guides. Nevertheless, we explored with our enthusiastic guide and were glad we saw the new attraction. Note: the park is cashless - only accepts credit cards, even for the guide.
We will use Yama Tours again when we return to see other parts of Ethiopia!

If you go to Ethiopia, you have to hire Yama Tour. They were a certain choice. Great service, excellent guides around the tour, they all speak excellent English. The cars are in good conditions and the prices are fare. The guides are always worried about your security and comfortable staying.
