Having lived and worked in Thailand for more than 50 years, taking foreign visitors to the Salathip is one way of impressing them with the beauty, culture, and savory food of Thailand. The restaurant is on the Chao Phraya River, with lots of windows to see the river throughout the meal.
My most recent visit was on 21 September 2022 with a guest from my alma mater, Syracuse University. She had never been to Thailand before. We sat indoors (it's the wet season and rains often) but had a perfect view of the Chao Phraya River, the dinner cruising river boats, the rice barges, and other river activities.
The traditional Thai dancing provided by university students is always a nice touch. Not too much and not too little.
The food was very Thai and perfect. The service provided by Bunny and her team, Jom, Pooky, Pree, and Imm was excellent. The restaurant was nearly full, but the team did an outstanding job in ensuring that my guest and I were well taken care of.
Thank you Salathip for another rewarding night and an impressive presentation of Thailand.

Sono stata due anni ad Aprile 2019 fa a cena e poi a pranzo in questo meraviglioso ristorante, durante un mio soggiorno allo Shangri-La. La cortesia di MJ, Joe e Jeab ha spiccato tra tutte: è anche grazie a loro che conservo un ricordo bellissimo di questo posto e dei suoi piatti, sapientemente consigliati.

Stunning river side location.Beautiful decor and a warm welcome.Food was fabulous and authentic.Service was world class and we were made to feel very welcomed.Dancing was a lovely surprise.The entire evening was perfect and prices very reasonable.We cannot wait to return to Bangkok.MJ/JOE/NP & RUN all made the evening one will never forget so thank you

Wir waren Ende Februar dort zum Essen. Als eingefleischte Fans von Shangri La Hotels wurden wir total enttäuscht: das Essen war ja noch ok, aber der Service war unterirdisch: unmotiviert, unaufmerksam und unprofessionell! Die Kellner kamen nicht von sich aus und mussten immer gerufen werden, wenn man etwas benötigte- das Restaurant war nicht voll!
Einzig und allein die Lage des Salathip ist unvergleichlich - wiegt aber den schlechten Service und das durchschnittliche Essen nicht auf! Sehr enttäuschend!

I visited the restaurant last week with my parent. Since we stayed in the Shangrila-Bangkok. This restaurant will open around 6pm. And the view is getting fabulous when the sunset is on. Besides, I love the food very much. I have been in Thailand more than 50 times and the restaurant food is truly tasty. The staff served for us that day is Joe, NP Bas. I took my family of four to Bangkok for a holiday and we stayed at the Shangri-La hotel for five days. On the last day, we had dinner at the Thai restaurant - Salathip. The service there was impeccable. In particular, the manager (I think called Jo NP Sorn) was great. My teenager son accidentally knocked over a glass full of apple juice and not only did he take the trouble of cleaning up all the broken glass and wiped the floor himself, he also comforted my boy who felt very bad about the incident. The food served was also very good too which was better than another well known Thai restaurant (Baan Khanitha) which served frozen and chunky chicken when we went there previously. So overall, even though the hotel itself seems a bit aged and worn out , the restaurant experience at Salathip was very good. An outdoor table by the river is strongly recommended if the weather is not too hot.
