It was very good and well informed experience having Rose as our tour guide. She is very friendly and it was not a boring tour. It was definitely a fun tour - stopping by before the Khor Virap to have a free taste of lavash and eating easter egg 😆, going deep in the dugeon prison of St. Gregory, going inside the chapel and getting blessings, overlooking of Mt. Ararat, beautiful view of the the province overall 🙌💛. Really a good experience!

I believe a tour is only as good as your guide… Sam was a phenomenally well informed guide and gave me a great insight into Armenia’s history, as well as the history and stories surrounding the monastery. He answered every question I gave him and I could tell he was truly passionate about this beautiful country. After our tour concluded, he walked me to the first place he’d recommended I visit and pointed out landmarks to help me with directions for the rest of my visit. He was truly amazing! Thank you Sam!
As for the monastery itself, I had just come off the back of visiting so many monasteries in Georgia, but this one was quite unique & different. The stories were intriguing and the layout was different to everything I had already seen, and then of course you have the view. I visited on a bit of a foggy day but still had views of Mount Ararat. Climbing the hill next to the monastery gave excellent views and made for good pano shots to include the monastery and the mountain… albeit the very tip of the mountain for the day I visited!
For anyone who has any knee issues like me, it’s also quite easy access for walking - a bit of a hill to get up to the entrance but it’s not a difficult walk. Even the hill next to the monastery was fairly easy going most of the way up, though rocky.
I would definitely recommend doing this tour, rather than just booking a taxi to head out there, so that you don’t miss all the stories, culture and tips.

В конце октября посетили семьей Ереван. Так как в семье 3 детей и младшему всего 3 года, брали индивидуальные туры. Гид Сюзанна сопровождала нас на всех экскурсиях. Брали 3, соответственно, объездили основные достопримечательности в радиусе 1-1,5 часов езды от Еревана. Предоставили автокресло младшему. С погодой нам повезло, Арарат был виден почти ежедневно, дождей не было. Индивидуальный тур это отличный выбор для большой семьи, так как экскурсия идёт так, как удобно нам, не надо никого ждать или наоборот торопиться. В автомобиле всегда была вода, водители прекрасные. Наш гид Сюзанна очень понравилась нам, рассказывала много интересного, в том числе вне рамок экскурсий, давала рекомендации, что посмотреть в самом городе. От неё были в восторге и дети, и взрослые, спасибо ей большое!

It was a wonderful tour with the guide Varduhi (Rose) and our driver Khachik, the explanation was very clear, they are very friendly and they helped us understand the importance of the monastery and Ararat mountain not only from the religious point of view but also from the Armenian history, thanks a lot!!

Varduhi: Rose and Khachik:Chros made our experience wonderful.. we went on a trip to Khor Virap and starting in the bus the explanation began.

We had a wonderful tour! Our guide was so friendly, very informative and quite patient with our baby who didn't always cooperate. The tour also provided a baby seat which was much appreciated.

Зачастую экскурсии бывают скучными. Но не в этот раз. Гарник с таким энтузиазмом рассказывал о Ереване, о монастыре Хор Вирап. Настолько интересно он вещал, что не хотелось, чтобы экскурсия заканчивалась:)
Про водителя тоже отмечу. Никакого дискомфорта при поездке. Все было на высшем уровне.

Great value tour and a very professional agency. Organised a private tour fir the family I using a Grandmother in a foldable wheelchair. Mini bus extremely comfortable and luxurious with a drinks fridge included and good AC. Collected us at out hotel and the driver Maies was helpful fun and courteous to the extreme. Khor Virap monetary itself if a stunning place to visit due to it's setting on a rocky outcrop overlooking the foothills of Mount Ararat. We were nervous of going in a wheelchair but the driver phoned the monastery and for a charge of around 4 GBP managed to arrange special access right up to the monastery. Note for any wheelchair users, the grandmother had to walk up some of the final steps to get into the monastery but once in there it is mostly at. Ambulant disabled will be OK as long as can walk up a few steps. Would also note that if you arrive in a larger bus tour it is unlikely they would be able to arrange access up because the path up is fairly narrow. For the able bodied it's worth making the extra effort to walk up the rocky path to the top of the rock where the views all around are spectacular. I managed in good saddles, but trainers would be better.
Finally there is a little market at the bottom selling souvenir stuff. Only warning is to not to take any interest I the pigeons. They stuffed them into our hands told us to make a wish then promptly charged us an extortionate amount. Our drive and another Hyer staff member were outraged and promptly got our money back and we eternally grateful. For all these reasons Hyur and absolutely first class and you will be well looked after - especially with Maies.
