We took the Siem Reap to Phnom Penh trip wit 2 couples, Pete was awesome dealing with a couple of changes on our part. The driver picked us up on time and drove us 4.5 hrs to the boat. Very informative info along the way. Then we got on the boat, it was just us 4 and the crew, The food and drinks came out as we left, then 4+hrs up river on the Tonle sap river. What a amazing trip, so much to see along the way and stopping at Monestry was cool. Sameth our boat guide and the Captian were awesome, Sameth was very informative and great to just hear some of his life stories. We got dropped off and had arranged Tuk tuk to our Hotel. Even took our luggage, No issues at all, From our driver to the boat crew. Was worth the trip

Brilliant trip. Got to see life on the river and life in the country. Stopping to eat tarantula was an absolute highlight. Would highly recommend this trip to anyone wanting to see more. Thankyou to both our guides

I opted to travel by bus and boat from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh in stead of flying. Am so pleased that I found Tara River Boat. The guides were friendly and spoke good enough English for me to ask questions and find out more about life in Cambodia. Its a fairly long trip and the roads were very busy due to Cambodia New Year. I boarded the boat for the final 3.5 hours of the journey and especially enjoyed the trip on the river. Would highly recommend this mode of transport from SR to PP, but make sure you put the whole day aside as it took a full 9 hours - including 2 stops.

Total scam! They sell you a totally overpriced boat trip from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh, but actually it's a five hour minibus trip and then a one and a half hour boat trip. And for this $139 are way too much.
The journey started with a guy telling me to pay him cash but he actually didn't even boarded the minibus, which left me with a very bad feeling. The driver himself didn't speak any English and couldn't answer my questions regarding the trip.
After a five hour drive, we boarded the boat where we were explicitly told that we are allowed to drink 1 coke and 1 beer. But to be honest, there wasn't anything more anyway as the cooling box was dirty and empty.
The boat guide was very unfriendly and became quite aggressive, when we (everyone doing this trip) complained. He even refused to talk to us for the rest of the trip.
I would definitely not recommend this trip as you can get way cheaper, better and friendlier options to travel from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh or vice versa.

DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM TOUR.
Nothing was as advertised:
- not the same boat in the photos
- we made 33km by boat out of the total theoretical 300+km river ride, the rest via a grueling van ride. Yes, they indicated the boat ride was about 4 hours, but this was due to the really slow boat
- the river is basically like an open sewer and unfortunately..
- the lunch included: guide scooped the food with his hands, washed dishes in the dirty river
- guide did not speak English (vs. what was advertised)
- pickup from the hotel was via 2 tuktuks for our family of 5 including luggages
Complained and asked for a partial refund but was rebuffed (as I see as well with their comments here)

Hi and thank you for your review of our Phnom Penh to Siem Reap cruise and road tour (one way) , we are concerned about your experience, and will certainly review our procedures and see if we can improve our service, yes we use tuk tuks to pick up from the hotels in Phnom Penh and take you to the dock area (where our boat is ready) , we do this as one the distance is small,your hotel was so close to the boat and if we needed to use 3 or more tuk tuks we would have, this is clearly stated on the trip-advisor platform, from my discussions with our team, and there will be more, you somehow expected a different tour than what we advertised ?, this is unfortunate and we will look at making it (the details) more clear, the speed of our boats are approx 10 knots ( we are cruising at a safe and legal speed for the rivers) , this is quite a normal speed for riverboats as also we are going against a river current, the actual river distance is 41km, and takes 4 to 4.5 hours as advertised, our cruise guide does speak very good English, and gets a lot of great comments from the guests comments online, we do have 3 different boats we use but on your cruise trip we used the one we advertised with, trip advisor and also on our website, the Mekong rivers and Tonle Sap rivers feed into the lake and although looks brown its the richest fresh water lake fishing ground in the world, most of the rivers here are like this, and lots of locals swim in the rivers including me, the water used to wash the food is not from the river at all, but from the main land, but thanks again for your review as its how we all learn , rest assured we will look into our product online with all of the booking agents to ensure we are very clear in our descriptions of the tour, safe travel always and lots of care, cheers peter

Be carefull this tours are a scam !We booked the cruise from Siem Rep to Phnom Phen from this company. After a long and quite dangourous van ride of around 5h we finally arrived at the river boat. Unfortuntly there was no welcome drink like described but only one water and one beer per person. We did not vist a floating village like expacted but just saw some 'houses' far away (Foto is the highlight from what we saw on the cruise). Defenetly a scam for the really high price of 135$ per Be carefull this tours are a scam !We booked the cruise from Siem Rep to Phnom Phen from this company. Hi, Thank you for your review, its disappointing you tried to blackmail us into refunding some of your money or you will leave bad reviews, we understand you where upset with our service, but if you had read our description on our website, what we delivered is what we promised, the beers on the boat where plenty, along with other drinks, when you travel its best to travel with a smile, even my staff on the boat complained to me about your unpleasant behavior as soon as you stepped on our boat, i think if you did read our description of the tour before you booked this tour, we would all be a lot happier, anyway extortion and blackmail are illegal in Cambodia so please refrain from this practice in the future. Our extended family of 6 did the ‘ONE-WAY CRUISE & ROAD FROM PHNOM PENH TO SIEM REAP’ with Tara Boats (in fact we travelled north to south (Siem Reap to Phnom Penh)). Don’t be fooled into thinking this is a boat trip: it is a very long car ride (in our case over 6.5 hours once the 45+ minute wait for the other pick up was factored in) with a short river excursion attached (just over 2 hours). The food was sub-standard (cold, overcooked, dried out chicken legs and pork ribs). It is not clear from the website what to expect from this journey - I was under the impression based on the ‘menu’ tab on their website that the food would be great - but the fine print reveals this is only on some of their boats. Furthermore, there is no map to reveal what to expect re the ratio of road to boat time - but following Google maps en route showed us that we travelled the entire length of Tonle Sap and much more besides, by road, only joining a tributary river that is on the outskirts of Phnom Penh. I am happy to say that the guy on the boat is great. Just nothing else is!

Thank you for your review of our Siem Reap to Phnom Penh road and cruise tour, yes its 4.5 hours via road and 4.5 hours via cruiser as clearly stated, i understand you experienced a delay as other guests where a little late in leaving there hotel, it was i am told about a 30 minutes wait, not ideal but it can happen from time to time on shared tours, when you are on a shared tour sometimes a slight delay will happen again not very often but it was due to the family with small children getting organized, for the food we have on this tour is basic with rice and vegetables, chicken wings, Kababs, Fresh salads, fresh local fruits, we also have vegetarian options available if if advised ahead of the tour, we can let the boat staff know, i am sorry you did not enjoy but it does state the types of foods on our website, also drinks are supplied, yes i agree our staff are a great bunch, safe travel always Miss Sreymom

We took this trip with my wife and everything worked very well. We were only one on board so it felt same time fancy and weird. Staff was helpful and nice, the man in charge had a good English skills so it was easy to communicate. Boat trip took about 4,5 hours and we had a nice lunch on a way. After a boat trip we still need to sit in a car 4,5 hours more to reach Siem reap.
But if you put together 4,5 hour boat trip, 4,5 hour car trip and lunch (with drinks) costed us over 370 USD, it's a way too expensive. Have to say value for your money is not there, Sorry

Thank you for your nice review, and we are happy you enjoyed our Phnom Penh to Siem Reap cruise and road tour, we are very lucky to have some amazing team members all working together on this and other cruise tours we do, with all our tours we try and keep the costs down as much as possible, but running boats is never cheap, however after 20 years we are still looking at ways of improving our services and keeping costs down, safety, comfort,enjoyment and costs are something we are constantly looking at, thanks again and safe travels always.

From the gorgeous drive through the countryside and the river/lake cruise to Phnom Penh this is an experience you don't want to miss. The views from the boat are spectacular, as was the delicious food and ice-cold Cambodia beers. Our host Sodem was incredibly open, knowledgeable, genuine and made our trip a truly memorable experience. Our young kids had the trip of a lifetime.

We had a great journey from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh and the boat to ourselves given the shortage of tourists currently. Our host Samat was very generous, great company and very informative about life on the Mekong River and Cambodia in general. We would highly recommend Samat and his team.
