      Chicaque

My sister and I took the coffee and chocolate experience as I like Colombian coffee and she likes chocolate so it seemed ideal.

Really great tour and special mention to guide and driver (Camilo and Hector). Camilo's English was excellent and we discussed all sorts of topics which eased the drive to the first stop. Hector's driving was safe and no issues navigating the route. There were some previous reviews about road conditions and driving but although in some parts the road inland was bumpy it is what it is when you're going up a mountain. The roads in the UK aren't all perfect either!

Communication and booking was easy. Advised to do a specific day due to Colombian holiday weekend. Yes, there was traffic but we knew this and the tour would be a full day so this was no surprise. Vehicle and pick up was on time and no issues.

Interesting experience where we helped create the coffee we drank followed by a really nice lunch then on to chocolate with very pretty colours for cacao and numerous tastings along the process.

We took water with us so others might want to do the same and to bring any snacks etc you may need for a full day out. There are stops that could be made along the way but ensure you bring what you think you need for yourselves to make your trip easy.

Out of this world experience! Highly recommend doing this tour when in Bogota. Communication and transport were excellent as we only booked it last minute on the night before. It was a private tour to a family run coffee farm and Cocoa farm. Our guide Hector Mora spoke Spanish but with the help of Google translate and lots of patience was still very informative. The language barrier did not hinder any part of the day. The views on the journey are superb. When at the coffee farm, we were greeted by a friendly family who helped us to pick our own coffee beans and do the whole process from tree to cup!
The Cocoa farm was another hours drive but was another phenomenal experience where we saw the cocoa plantation in amongst the jungle. We again were informed and showed the process and got to try cocoa beans and 100% chocolate.
The entire day 7:30-9pm transport, lunch and experience included was $120 USD per person worth every penny. Tips are very much appreciated (cash).

Andes Eco Tours gave us such a unique and special opportunity to see behind the curtain of typical tourism. For a day, we were invited to the homes of lovely, hard-working families to see what it takes to produce some of the most traded agricultural products: Coffee & Chocolate! Diego and Hector were wonderful guides, and we felt completely safe and cared for as we drove through South Bogota and into the rural mountain region.
This experience was well-planned, and we got to participate in nearly every step of the production of these products. My husband and I had our two young sons with us (ages 7 & 9), and our hosts were so kind and considerate towards us and our boys! The provided lunch was also delicious :)
I recommend this experience to anyone who desires to see a true, working Colombian homestead producing some of the world's most desired commodities!

Thank you again for this opportunity and for an amazing day!

Thank you for your kind words! We have been working with these families for over 10 years and their authenticity has never wavered. We have always looked for ways to inspire genuine connections between visitors and the local farmers and are happy to hear you had an amazing experience with us.

Thanks for the wonderful review. We are so glad to hear you were able to experience the magic of Colombian hospitality. There's nothing better than learning about the coffee and chocolate processes from small, family-owned farms.

I must admit that there was a lot of driving involved for this trip, because the coffee and chocolate farms are outside of the city. The roads are also a bit rough in places as you are going over a mountatin.
That said, I really enjoyed the trip and my guide Juan was excellent. He was very enthusiastic and well-informed, and made sure I was happy with my experience. Visiting the coffee and chocolate farms was so interesting! I loved learning about the process of growing and producing coffee beans and chocolate.

Really great, guide was really nice and a great driver, picked us up and dropped us off great, and both the coffee farm and cacao farm were really fun. Also both had puppies and kittens which were great. Everyone was super nice and very accommodating for our so-so/bad Spanish. Highly recommended.

An intense and informative trip. Yes it's a long drive, but it's worth it. And even the drive itself is informative, as our guide regaled us with stories about Bogotá and Colombia. He talked about history, day to day living, and more.

The farms themselves were incredible. We picked coffee. We saw cocoa pods growing on trees. We witnessed firsthand the experience of making coffee and chocolate. Everyone was warm and welcome and very kind.

Lunch was provided and the meal was excellent. Our driver did a fantastic job. We stopped to take photos of scenery and birds along the way. Bogotá traffic can be a little crazy. Experiencing that was interesting and we both felt very safe with our driver.

An amazing experience. Intense and fulfilling.

Can't say enough good things about this experience. It was hands down our favorite activity during our stay in Bogota. The company is very responsive via WhatsApp. We were promptly picked up at our AirBnB and our driver was great. Our guide was amazing as well. The farms we visited were tiny and the owners were very personable despite the language barrier. It was amazing seeing some of our favorite foods go from plant to finished product in front of ours. It gives you a lot of perspective on products you might take for granted. I highly recommend this tour, it is well worth the money!!!

I noticed a recent review complaining about the amount of driving, lunch, and lack of engagement by the guide among other things. The downside of the tour is definitely the amount of driving so be prepared to deal with this anytime you leave the city. We were "lucky" with traffic according to our driver and still spent the bulk of our time in the car. Bogota's traffic is horrible. I recommend a mid-week tour to alleviate traffic a little. It's just something you have to deal with for this type of experience. Our vehicle was modern and handled well on all the roads. The mountain roads can be really bumpy, so keep that in mind. We took anti-nausea medicine before we left. I'd recommend the same if you are prone to car sickness at all.

Our guide was completely engaged with us the whole time. I can only speak of my experience. Every guide is different, but ours was great.

The food for lunch was nothing fancy. But as a traveler I want to try the foods the locals eat. This is definitely what we got. It's hard to believe there were even restaurants in these remote areas.

Don't waste your day!! Trust me. I was visiting Columbia for the very first time, for only a weekend, and I'm going to be completely honest, I took 4 other tours that weekend and all of them were cheaper and included more and didn't take the entire day! I wish that I had known up front, that 90% of my day was going to be spent in a van, on bumpy roads, in the mountains, with an inexperienced driver, in a van that was a safety hazzard and should not have been in those mountains in the first place. Maybe the ride would not have been as uncomfortable if the tour guide had spent a little bit more time engaging with us instead of the driver. She spent all of her time talking to the driver in Spanish and we were all sitting in the back seats just looking out the window. The advertisement originally said that we would be "Spending the day" at local farms. That was false advertisement, and since I recently made a complaint, the owner of the tour company has now changed their advertisement to reflect that half of the day will be in a vehicle, which is still incorrect, because we definitely still spent more than half the day in a vehicle. Nonetheless, now that I made a complaint, they have revised their advertisement. We booked an English tour and there were four other people on our tour that spoke spanish, so the tour guide spent most of the time communicating with them in Spanish and we didn't understand anything they were saying. Yes the tour guide was friendly, when she was interacting with us, which was only when she was trying to translate what the farmers were saying, but for the price that we paid, the experience was below average and the advertisement was very misleading. When we got to the Farms, the farmers were extremely friendly and knowledgeable, but we did not spend much time there. Maybe 1 hour maximum at each farm and there was only two farms. We stopped for lunch which was a vegetarian lunch. Basically a plate of rice, and egg, beans, some pumpkin, a sweet banana, and a bowl of soup. I think for $320, only receiving lunch is a little unfair. We were picked up at 8:36 a.m. and did not get back to our hotel until 10:30 p.m. That left no time for dinner. There were several delays on the road and the tour guide thought that it was appropriate to buy us "a snack" to compensate for our discomfort which was an arrepa from the side of the road, when we stopped for a bathroom break after hours in the van. I can tell you this, I took two tours the very next day and only paid $180 for two people for two separate tours and a meal was included on each of those tours, so $180 for two tours, for two people, verse $320 for one tour, for two people and the only thing we got was an espresso cup of coffee, a bite of chocolate, a plateful of carbs for lunch, stiff knees, and a sore back for the rest of the weekend. Save your time and money! Take a different tour. You will thank me later!

Thank you for sharing your experience with us! As a family-owned business, it sincerely saddens us that you did not enjoy your time with us because we work very hard to make sure things happen for our clients in a way that is worth their time and effort. For the last ten years we have only received positive reviews for our tours and we take your comments of dissatisfaction very seriously because we aim to maintain top quality in all of our tour experiences. We researched the facts and found out that you were picked up on time and scheduled for a 12-hour tour, including visits to two farms, lunch, a bilingual guide and private transport. Everything that we promised in the itinerary was delivered to you. Photos were taken by our guide of your party picking and processing coffee beans, enjoying the food, going through the cacao fields and participating actively in all of the activities. We do acknowledge however, that you were scheduled to return by 8.30pm to your hotel and instead you were dropped off at 10.12pm. The delay was caused due to excessive rain overnight that made the downhill road tricky for the driver who had to avoid potholes full of water. He couldn´t tell how deep some of them were, and out of caution, he maneuvered around them carefully to prevent a punctured tire. We always prioritize safety over timelines and we are glad that the transport went down the mountain safely, although it turned into a tedious, bumpy experience for you. We also had the bad luck of getting stuck in road construction on the way back. This is rare and usually does not happen after hours, but unfortunately it caused further delays to an already long tour for you. We instructed the guide to buy a snack for everyone while they waited for the traffic to ease. We highly value the feedback we get from our clients as this helps us improve the experience for future visitors. We want to emphasize that we would never put our clients in a vehicle that was deemed a safety risk. Neither the guide nor the other 4 participants on the tour reported any sort of mechanical malfunction or concern with the vehicle. With regards to lunch, we provide this service from a local provider because there are no stores or restaurants inside the nature reserve. The host has been serving meals for us since 2013 and hundreds of clients have been satisfied with it. We aim to provide fresh food with produce directly from the farms, cooked in traditional ways and with lots of pride by the local farmers who are happy to share their cuisine and culture with us. It’s expected that this meal does not look or taste like a typical city restaurant and we sincerely regret that it did not live up to your expectations. With regards to the guiding, this was done in both Spanish and English simultaneously as is the case when there are clients that speak both languages. The guide mentioned that your party was not very responsive, making the conversation somewhat challenging. She has been with us for over 5 years and usually gets some of the best reviews, comments and tips. She also freelances with many of the major tour companies in the city and is very experienced. Regardless, we have taken note of your comments and will make sure that our guides engage fully with all of our clients. When you wrote us asking for a full refund we explained that the booking was made through a third party (which likely increased the tour cost) and that we had no power to refund any of the money because we do not have access to the payment information. Despite having delivered all of the activities that were promised in the itinerary, we accepted there was a delay in the itinerary that caused discomfort and offered you a $100 dollar travel credit. Our offer was rejected and we were told you were going to leave bad reviews all over social media. We respect the right of anybody to leave their opinion and we value feedback that strengthens the travel community but it is sad that small businesses like us are threatened with negative reviews to force us into paying back money for services already delivered. We did everything we could to rectify the delayed itinerary and apologize again for the discomfort caused. We specialize in off-the-beaten path experiences that are unique, adventurous and that offer a glimpse into the lives of real farming families. We understand that these tours may not be for everyone and we do the best we can to convey the type of experience you are going to have with us. We will continue to work hard to ensure that our clients feel safe, valued and satisfied with our tour experiences.

It is important to spend time learning and seeing the rest of the country as it is outside of Bogota. That is why we booked this tour to see how the country is supporting it’s important small coffee and cacao farmers. What a great time with Andrés and Gabriela learning about the history and culture of the country and the people we met at the farms and in the countryside. Truly a must do!
