All peoples are friendly, nice, and very welcoming. The market tours where also amazing, and the cooking classes where the best, even though I only stayed for week I understand their culture. I had really good time. Thank you.

I really enjoyed this cooking class! It was a great window into daily life in Myanmar without feeling intrusive or making a spectacle of people. The market was full of interesting sights and I got to be hands on with the cooking. I did this as a female solo traveler and felt comfortable the entire time. I enjoyed chatting with Jack as well as with the women who worked with him. The tour guide had great English and was full of interesting history and cultural information and the food was delicious!

Doing a cooking class while in Yangon was one of my top goals. Since it was off season, many of the classes were done for the season. Lucky for me that I met Jack Burma of Green Season Travel on my last day there. He is the guide & owner of the company.
I was the only one on the tour. Jack picked me up at my hotel and we headed to the local market near the Strand. This wasn't a "tourist" market but the market he himself shops at regularly. I loved the very local feel of the market. Once shopping was completed, we walked to his office/home which was less than 10 min away. Here we were welcomed by his wife & a staff member who prepped much of the food. I was invited into the kitchen to see how the food was prepared. Unfortunately, I only got hands-on experience with some of the side dishes.
The menu included 3 different curries: shrimp, pork, chicken. There was also 2 salads, a greens & tomato dish (which I prepared), and a soup. This was the best food I had while in Myanmar...and had a BLAST helping to prepare it.:-)
One added bonus was that while the food was being prepared, 2 monks came by to receive some of the food we prepared. This is a typical Buddhist tradition, where the donation promotes positive karma. The monks left shortly after...which is when Jack told me that the younger monk had been coming by since he was a boy!
Although not as hands on as other cooking classes, what was great about this experience is that it was GENUINE - the real locals market, a real family preparing a meal and their practice of sharing with monks...and Jack himself who is so enthusiastic.
One suggestion is that he have printed recipes of items prepared during cooking class so students can bring home with them. Also, although the kitchen is small, it would have been nice to help with food prep, such as chopping veggies, making marinade, etc.
A little about the owner/guide:
Jack is a warm-hearted, conscientious and enterprising local who loves cooking, his country and his work. He used to work for a travel agency and started Green Season Travel in the spring of 2017. By Sept 2017, he had won a prize from a UK NGO for his innovative packages to explore his native city and country. This is not surprising as he goes out of his way to make sure you have a positive and memorable experience.
Overall: VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED...WILL DO AGAIN ON MY RETURN....

Yes, we'll pick up and drop off at your hotel.
It's okay to accommodate your family of 7.
Dress is okay. T-shirt or shirt and with short pants or long pants. Make yourself comfort for the dressing when sitting and helping for the cooking.

Your guide will pick you up from Chatrium Hotel at around 7:00am and you will then go for shopping at one hidden market in the downtown Yangon. Guide will explain you the menu of the day to buy.
