Our family took the tour yesterday. Our guide was Lucy- super friendly lady with great English and huge knowledge about anything we asked about. We had great time with her. This tour is perfect- first you see the historic places in Beijing and then you taste some great foods in the hutongs. Lots of walking, so wear some comfortable shoes. Highly recommend to anyone!

This tour was great and the guide we were with, Linda, was WONDERFUL! We learned so much and had a great time-Linda answered all of our questions and taught us a ton about the forbidden city and the different emperors.
The food tour part was amazing. We ate so many delicious things and Linda tailored it to our tastes- a little spicy but not too hot. We had several yummy pancakes including one we’d seen on Andrew Zimmerman’s Delicious Destinations. She also helped her us select which foods would travel well and save for our train ride dinner later that night. She introduced us to Hot Pot and explained its origins. She encouraged us to be adventurous and try things but never made us feel bad if we didn’t love it.
Linda was also super accommodating and was able to start the tour an hour earlier and then after the amazing food tour she helped us get a taxi to the train station and explained how to read the ticket-which was super helpful. Overall we loved everything about the tour!

My husband and I love trying to local food when we travel because it is a great way to experience the culture so adding this to our tour of the forbidden city was a great choice. The whole tour was great but the food tour portion was a highlight of our trip. Out guide Linda was perfect, she took us to a neighborhood that is not often visited by tourists and we ate our way through the afternoon! We tried 20+ different dishes at different establishments, upscale restaurants, simple restaurants, quick serve,food carts, etc. Our guide knew the history of all of the different foods such as what part of China (or the world) it originated from, the ingredients, who typically eats them, when, etc and she did a great job of providing a lot of variety. She asked if we were open to trying 'exoctic' dishes that we not necissarily enjoy but just to try and we definitely wanted to so we didn't like everything but trying the foods that are customary was definitely an experience! The large majority of what we tried was awesome -- we were stuffed by the end of the tour and didn't need to eat dinner! This is a great tour for anyone that loves food!

Jimmy was our tour guide for the day and he did an excellent job! We started at our tour at Tiananmen Square. Got a good amount of information about area including buildings and statues in the square.
Next we explored the Forbidden City - which is massive! Think we maybe saw 1/4 of the whole place. Jimmy did a great job of telling us as much as possible without overwhelming us with information. You could easily spend a whole day in the there, but a couple of hours was enough for us.
Then it was on to the food part of our adventure and it did not disappoint!Before we started Jimmy asked our food preferences and checked how adventurous we were. As we wanted to try as many things as possible Jimmy made sure there were both "safe" and "adventurous" options for us to try at every stop. Loved having a guide as there were so many dishes we would never have known about without Jimmy guiding us. Of the 20 food tastings we managed to do 17 before we admitted defeat and had to stop.
I would highly recommend this tour as it was worth every penny spend both on the excellent information given at the cultural sites, and the food we got to try.
