Excellent, informative tour

Very informative! Our tour guide Miko is very knowledgeable and gave us very detailed explanations of the history of various parts of Tian’an men square and the Forbidden City. We couldn’t get tickets for the Forbidden City, but was able to get last minute tickets by booking this tour.

Lovely tour.. best way to explore Beijing

Jae was on time, kind and very knowledgeable. He has good command of English and knows the attractions inside out. I requested him for some help to purchase tea and he helped while at the tour.
Forbidden City is amazing - and a tour guide is best way to experience it.
Tiananmen Square was closed off due to a political visit. Jae made the best of it and switched the tour to a bike ride around the square.
This is not 5 stars as I would have expected the tour operator to have checked about closure before the tour. Also we had to take a local bus from Forbidden City to Tiananmen Square which was quite crowded. I was not informed earlier else would have gotten a face mask.
Overall great experience - just need to get bit tighter on logistics/ planning.

Dear Friend, thank you for your review, really appreciate. Good to know you did enjoyed the tour with our company. We are really sorry that Tian'anmen Square can close at anytime without advance notice, we have no way to control this happen. We have informed this in our product introduction. Since it was happened, Jay suggested to ride bike around the Tian'anmen Square and he offered commentary along the way. We cherish everyone's feedback, so we have discussed your tour with your guide Jay, your tour started at 13:30 and your hotel is 40 minutes drive out of the city, by the time you reach the Forbidden City is about 2:30, he want to make sure you have enough time to experience the Forbidden City(close at 5:00), so he think it is better to visit Forbidden City first, Tian'anmen Square open all the time, so you can explore the Square afterwards. But yes, this decision made the tour a little bit complicated. At the north end of the Forbidden City usually very hard to get a taxi, you have to walk about 1 kilometer to get a taxi, again taxi can not stop near the Tian'anmen Square. However, but number 5 can reach Ti'an'anmen Square directly. So to save time, Jay thought bus is the best way. But sorry he should ask your opinion, let you decide. Since bus is the only way to reach Tian'anmen square, that's why the bus was crowded. Thank you again for your input regarding this part, it is very important for us to improve our service. In the future if we will suggest our client to start early if their hotel is out of the city. And ask their opinion before make a decision. Thank you very much. Qing from Discover Beijing Tours

A tour guide is a must

We truly enjoyed the tour. It was picturesque and informative. Average Americans would definitely need a guide. Anson met us at our hotel, facilitated our entry, and gave us a history lesson. He even went above and beyond to make sure we got back to our hotel.

awesome service, breathtaking tours!

I went to Beijing at May 1st, which is a public holiday in China. Because of this, everything was crowded. Discover Beijing Tours let me know in advance it would be very difficult to get tickets for the Forbidden City, since you have to reserve those starting 1 week in advance up to the day before you want to go. Unfortunately, they did not manage to het tickets at first. This is however still a 5star review and it would have been even if I had never gotten to the forbidden city because they really did their utmost best; stayed up late to try to get tickets every day and had a very good communication with me. I asked if I could be taken to the Summer Palace instead for a 4hour tour and they did, for the same price, which was very kind of them! Then the organiser discovered that foreigners could still get a ticket to enter the Forbidden City at the entrance. This was discovered on Sunday while I was in the bus to another attraction, Monday I would have my summer palace tour, and Tuesday afternoon I had to leave Beijing, so it was pretty short notice. The organiser told me how and where I could get tickets, I didn't feel pressed at all to book another tour; she would have just explained it to me either way. But since I'd still like to get the forbidden city tour like I originally planned, the organiser managed to organise a last-minute tour guide for me for the forbidden city Tuesday morning! I think that must have been quite a hassle since it was last minute, but she did it for me. I kept my Summer Palace tour and got the same guide the day after, which was wonderful. He picked my up in the lobby of my hotel both times, got me to the attraction and brought me back to my hotel. he was very kind and very knowledgable; he could tell a story about every single building we passed, what I really loved. The details made the old buildings and temples come back alive. I feel like I absolutely got the most out of my visits of both the Summer Palace and the Forbidden City. The organisation as a whole was amazing too, they really did they best for me to get me to the Forbidden City because they knew I would really like to. The guide also gave me some very nice sight-seeing tips I could do on my own after the tour.
Also a very big pluspunt; you don't have to do the standard shopping things that most tours in Beijing seem to imply at all, I didn't visit one souvenir shop on either one of my tours. I could if I'd had asked, since the guide adjusts the tour to suit your personal tastes, but it didn't interest me.
I was planning to write a 5 star review already before I knew I could go to the Forbidden City; if I'd could, I'd write a 10 star review right now. Would recommend over and over to anyone going to Beijing, it's really worth it!! I really, really enjoyed my time in Beijing and that's mainly because of Discover Beijing Tours.

Highly recommended and Lucy is the best!

We are grateful that Lucy was our tour guide for the day. She is punctual, considerate and very knowledgeable. The lunch was simple and delicious and we had a great time on the wall as well as in the summer palace. Highly recommended.

Ein schöner Nachmittag
Vielen Dank Lucy,wir hatten einen schönen Nachmittag .Das fing an mit dem abholen im Hotel, der Metro Fahrt, dem fachkundigen Rundgang durch die verbotene Stadt.
Gutem Englisch und guter Laune.
Vielen Dank und gerne wieder beim nächsten Besuch in Beijing.

A great morning at the Forbidden City

Lucy picked me up at the hotel and we took the subway to Tiananmen Square. It was great to walk in the city. Lucy was very knowledgeable and had many interesting stories. I learned a lot about the historical site of the Forbidden City but also about life in Beijing. As a solo traveller, I found Lucy very good company. She was also very mindful that I was keeping up and navigating the unfamiliar subway and city streets. This was a very enjoyable morning and I highly recommend it.

Amazing Forbidden City Tour

I booked this private tour with the excellent Lucy. It was amazing, she has a lot of knowledge, and she is not the typical guide rushing you. I had enough time to take pictures and to enjoy the visit. The experience was as good as I booked the tour to the Great Wall (Jinshaling) for the following day. This was the best idea; I was alone on the Great Wall. We could hike as far as we wanted, and at the same time, she told me lots of details about Chinese history. I am not going to forget this tour. I have travelled a lot around the world, and this was one of the best experiences in my life. So if you want to have a great time, definitely, you must book a tour with Lucy!!! Thanks!!!!

5 stars! Book as soon as possible!

My daughter and I had the pleasure of having Qing as our tour guide. We had a great experience. Qing was very knowledgeable and added funny commentary to engage my 9 year old daughter, whom is not interested in History (yet)! We learned a lot about Chinese history and culture, with the added benefit of being allowed to take ample time to take a multitude of pictures. Qing has hosted this tour for many years, so she provided us with tips to take the most flattering shots in this historical venue. I would definitely recommend Qing when taking this tour. We will remember this experience forever.
