This was the 4th Urban Adventures tour my husband and I have done and it didn't disappoint. My recommendations: don't eat before you go, there will be a ton of food, and go early in your trip. Part of the nice thing about the Urban Adventures tours is that they want to give you the local perspective. The guide was helpful with details on how to get around on the subway system, how to get cheaper tickets to attractions, and more.

The tour will take you to 2 different Hawker Centers in Chinatown, where you will sample a ton of delicious food. The guide also told us more about the dishes, Hawker center culture, and how they work. The food was so good, we went back to a few of the stands later in our time in Singapore. We really appreciated the demonstration on how the whole system works.

The other part of the tour was walking a little around Chinatown and then going into a building with a big map of Singapore for more information about the country, its history, its culture, and what might be interesting to do in our time there. I appreciated getting an overview in the air conditioning, but could see that others might want to do more walking and less talking.

Singapore's bewildering hodgepodge of local cusine is best represented in
no better location than Chinatown .
It's situated on the fist floor of Smith Street's Wet Market .
Here you will surely find something
to gratify the most discerning and
festidious taste buds . It's open from 10am to 10pm but the food is mainly Asian with a sprinkling of
Western food such as cakes ,pastries and barbecued beef , mutton and fresh
seafood . Some must try dishes include chicken rice , chili crab ,fried oyster ommelete ,skewered beef , pork and chicken grilled over charcoal fire and the list goes on endlessly . The place is not air conditioned and lunch crowds of office workers jostle for tables on weekdays . This can be quite annoying
as they leave packets of tissue paper ,umbrellers and even their name tags on tables to "reserve their seats ".
However, you can choose to Ignore them if you wish to as I always do .

Some nearby El fresco eateries situated along the street
also serves barbecued items and other
dishes cooked to your specification .
However , it's best to give crabs , lobsters and other exotics A Miss
as these may cost An Arm 😬 or at times , Even A Leg 😬 😟

Other stalls along the winding labrints of interconnecting streets
    sell trinklets ,souvenirs , snacks
    clothing's and fashion accessories .

A final word of caution when exploring Chinatown is to Beware
Of Pickpockets 😵 while you shop
    and dine 😵
    Happy 🤗 Eating 😋

On reading other reviews it made me think about what they have said and yes, I have to agree.
However it was still fun and interesting. I would recommend the tour.
The food was plentiful but so it should be ... the tour is expensive. It gave us the courage and understanding to return to the Hawkers market and order food ourselves.
Rene was very passionate ... he did a good job! Thanks Rene

This was billed as a food tour and having done others in different countries, I expected lots of quick stops trying different dishes with an explanation. We didn’t get that. We got two stops while Rene our guide ran around all the stalls collecting the different dishes and not letting us start until he had got them all. We spent most of the time in the museum containing the development plan while Rene talked us through a lot of socio political stuff (not what we expected and actually all had quite a bit of ‘spin’ so that a few of us in the group started winking at each other! He was very passionate, interesting and worked hard but this wasn’t really a ‘foodie’ tour.

Like another reviewer (Nov 19) stated we were a bit confused by the format of this tour. I guess I had expected more about the specific history of the food hawking in Singapore and of the dishes themselves. Whilst we tasted some very nice food we did not really immerse ourselves at the various stalls but instead sat at some round tables whilst Rene went and purchased it and brought it back to us. A lovely man but we couldn’t quite see why we spent so long in the Planning Authority building being given the history of the Country and of its future plans for development. It’s not to say that’s not interesting but we were struggling to see where all this fitted in with a “food tour”.

Our tour consisted of our family of 4 and another lady. Our meeting place was at the MRT station in Chinatown. Rene was our wonderful guide who brought us to 2 different Hawker Centers in Chinatown. We sat at a table while he went to the different stalls and brought us the local food. He explained the different types of dishes that were brought to us. He was very mindful of what we liked and didn't like. My husband was allergic to shellfish so he made sure he told us if there were any in the food he brought us. He brought us to one hawker center first then the Urban Redevelopment Authority Gallery and then to the second hawker center. The tour of the gallery was very interesting and a chance to digest our food before we ate again. We ate so much that afternoon that we didn't eat dinner that evening. Our family enjoyed the tour and recommend doing it if you enjoy eating and trying the local food.

We had never been to Singapore before and we looking forward to trying the food at the hawker markets. The selection and quality of the food is just amazing. The average price is $5 and well worth it.

This is not just an eating tour, but a cultural tour also. The amount of food is more than enough, which is done a 2 hawkers centers in China town. The break in between these centres is where the cultural part of the tour occurs. Rene is very knowledgeable and a personable guide. He can also help you with any questions you may have about how to use the MRT system, or which cabs to use. A very enjoyable afternoon. Highly recommend.
