I'd like to give Valencia a higher rating than 2 stars, but I cannot do so because of theri very dishonest marketing. The Salkantay Trek was a massive dissappointment. They advertise the trek as being out in the wilderness, but it's not. The first night, you're camping out in the mountains as advertised. After that, you're actually camping in towns (essentially on someone's front lawn) where there are cars, barking dogs, etc. On the fourth day, you have a moderately difficult (15 miles, 3000 feet of elevation gain right off the bat) day, but not too hard. The night before, there were at least 15 dogs that started running around and barking at 9pm. At one point, the dogs ran around our tents and it seemed like they were fighting. They didn't shut up until after 4am, and we were scheduled to wake up at 5am. I did the last day hike with 0 hours, 0 minutes, and 0 seconds of sleep. A couple of other people in my group didn't get any sleep either.
Multiple people in my group felt that the marketing was extremely deceptive because all their photos show you camping out in the mountains in the wildness - not sleeping on someone's front lawn in a town with out of control dogs running around all night.
The guide and the cooks were good, though. They did their job and so I cannot criticize them. I just cannot recommend the Salkantay trek to anyone, though, because it is not what is advertised.
Also, there are insane amounts of garbage on the trail. Everywhere. I didn't pick up any garbage because all you carry is a day pack and so I had nowhere to put the garbage. If they gave everyone a garbage bag that you could tie to your day pack, I'm sure many people would pick up garbage that they see and they could crowd source a solution. In a few months, the trail could be cleaned up.

We tried to reach out in private to help you with your problem but we couldn't get an answer. First of all, sorry for the inconvenience you experienced during your trek to Salkantay. The trek is actually in the wilderness, but there are some points where local people live along the route. Also, we are sorry about the problem with dogs, unfortunately, we can't 100% control things like this, but we will take your comment into consideration for future groups. We are sorry that you found the trek disappointing, as you mentioned, our team did their best to try to cater to your needs. Hope you can visit Peru soon for a new and better adventure.

We had a fantastic time with Lenin and the whole Valencia team on our 5 day trek through Salkantay. Lenin brought both energy and humor to each part of the challenging hike, and made the hard parts way more tolerable and enjoyable. We really enjoyed his mentality of first enjoying the hike, then completing the trek, and it truly shows in how he and the team planned this visit. We even got a special break next to Salkantay River, which was one of the highlights of the trip. As an fyi, from hardest to easiest day of the trek: Day 2, Day 4 (which is longer than day 2), Day 1 and then Day 3. If offered, take the day 3 option to visit the hot springs- the pools are not as warm as a traditional hot tub, but feel incredible as it’s the first shower in three days and the scenery is magnificent surrounding the pools at Santa Teresa. Also, bring a change of clothes to the hot springs and bug spray.
Sergio and Felipe knocked it out of the park food wise— we knew going in that we’d have hot meals, but not meals that were comparable to a decent home cooked meal that your mom made (but Peruvian style). The vegetable animals and cake cooked on a Bunsen burner was an incredible cooking feat, so bravo. Also, we will continue to have dreams about their banana and chocolate pancakes, so if you have a recipe, let us know! Sergio’s speech at the end was also very sweet. Special thanks to Marcos and Christian, our porters, who helped (with horses) carry our duffels, tents and mattress pads, as well as all the cooking supplies. They were kind and helpful throughout. All in all, a memorable and unforgettable trip.

Oscar is an amazing guide, he helped us with every problem we had. He also made sure that we completed the Trek safely and happily. Cirilo was the best cook. He can cook anything anywhere, if it's -10 there's no problem for him. The variety of food was delicious. Everything he made was perfect. I highly recommend anyone to travel with Valencia travel with Oscar and Cirilo. Amazing.

The food cooked by our chef Cirilo was incredible and really helped to tie in the whole experience, the guide was immensely helpful and showed us not only the way to Machu Picchu but also introduced us to local customs and gave us facts about our entire experience in Latin America. This was a once in a lifetime experience! Probably the coolest thing I have ever done- in large part thanks to the people that made it happen. Our guide, Claudio, was fantastic! He made every moment memorable, taught us so many things, and was constantly doing whatever he could to make our journey fun and unforgettable. The food we had during the trek was amazing. Our chefs Cirillo and Rene were absolutely wonderful. I could not believe the delicious things they made and we never had the same thing twice! Finally, we never would have made it without our horsemen Alfredo and Apu. They took such good care of us and really went the extra mile for us all the time. The entire staff on our trek were truly wonderful people and made our experience something I will always treasure.

What an amazing experience!! The trek highlighted so many different ecosystems of Peru and showed us the variety in climates and views! It was challenging but allowed some easier days to really take everything in. Our guide, Claudio, was absolutely fantastic! He was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about his culture and shared so much interesting info with us! He was very considerate of how we were feeling and provided amazing service the whole trek! Our chef, Cirillo and sous chef Renee, were incredible!! Our meals exceeded my expectations and was such a nice surprise each meal with different types of food! Our porters were the hardest workers I have ever seen! Alfredo and Apu were constantly working and always making sure we had what we needed! The attention to detail of the whole crew really made us feel special and comfortable the whole journey!

Claudio, our guide, was amazing. He was incredibly knowledgeable on the mountain and within the ancient city itself (he has a masters degree in archeology/history and is an andean mountain native). We also had incredible cooks (Cirilo & Renee) cooking us 3-4 course meals for every meal plus Claudio brought us coffee/tea service every morning. The horsemen (Alfredo & Apu) as well were extremely helpful and kind to us. From the base of The Savage Mountain to the jungle we felt safe, satiated and excited. 100% recommend!

We will definitely recommend Valencia Travel to our friends and family, and to anyone interested in an Andean trek.
Due to the pandemic we had to re-schedule this trip twice before we were finally able to make it. Cecilia and Carla at Valencia were incredibly professional and helpful in working with us during this time, and were available by email or phone to answer any questions.
Additional staff met us at the airport in Cusco and got us settled in at our hotel, gave us an orientation to the city and provided contact information for Miguel, who handled our accommodations while in Cusco.
Our trek guide Genrri met us the night before we hit the trail and reviewed our itinerary in detail, confirmed all of the permits, tickets, etc we would need for access and transportation, and offered a couple of options for side trips.
The logistics of coordinating transportation, permits/fees, and support team went off without a hitch. There were no surprises or unexpected changes, and Valencia did an outstanding job organizing and maintaining regular communications throughout our stay. On the trail we did have some issues with the altitude, and we were very impressed with the attention our guide gave to the health, well-being and personal goals of a pair of relatively inexperienced trekkers.
We were touched by how very tactful our guide Genrri was when he made the decision that one of us needed to ride the ‘rescue horse’ in order to rest and/or make up some lost time. He presented it in such a gentle manner, shared local herbal infusions to help with mountain sickness, and was so kind. These were powerful moments that ultimately made the trek more enjoyable.
Our chefs Victor and Noika were amazing not only for the five-star meals and service they offered, but also for the amount of work they did in moving our camp each day, and our arierro Isaías was a steady presence with the pack team. One moment stands out for us when we celebrated a birthday on the trail and mentioned this to our guide, who shared this with the cooks. They made a beautiful and delicious camp cake that they presented for breakfast, along with singing a happy birthday. One of the most memorable birthdays ever!
We want to especially call out our guide, Genrri Salazar, who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome in Peru. A true professional, his knowledge of the history, culture, and physical environment (geology, plant/animal life, etc) during the trek was exceptional, and we really appreciated his attentiveness and enjoyed his sense of humor. As a small group, we were a little spoiled by his undivided attention and were able to set our own pace, although he made sure we stayed on schedule. We particularly appreciated his account of the events and devastation caused by the 2020 Salkantay avalanche, which had a powerful visual impact throughout the trek. Sulpayqui wayquey!

Nico from Valencia Travel and his team did an outstanding job of helping make this trip of a lifetime very pleasurable and safe. The porters, horsemen and cook really did a great job of taking worries of our minds about eating, setting up camps and this let us focus on a beautiful and challenging hike. Nico Arqque was awesome with his guide work as he explained about the Salkantay trail’s flora and fauna. He was great at explaining what to expect each day and how to stay safe. As a big history fan, he also put good context on the ancient Inca empire before, during and after our visit to Machu Pichu. This trip was epic and a good way to celebrate my birthday!

Nico and the entire team were incredible! I can only recommend this unforgettable experience. They went above and beyond to give all of us an amazing time. The food was very authentic and absolutely delicious…. They even made us some of their local favorites on request!
