Our train ride going to Aguas Calientes was good and was on schedule, we did the Vistadome round trip and it’s worth the extra $’s to see the mountains as you go down the valley. The river winds along near the track most of the way and the rapids are nice to watch.
Our return trip however left late and this caused our trip to become later and later since there is one main line with pullouts to allow trains going the opposite direction to pass. We ended up in one pullout for over half an hour, and ended up arriving an hour late to Ollantaytambo.
So our leisurely drive back to Cusco airport was a lot of “rapido por favor” requests to our driver.
What was disappointing was there was no explanation from the train staff as to what was happening or how late we were going to be.
Our return trip however left late and this caused our trip to become later and later since there is one main line with pullouts to allow trains going the opposite direction to pass. We ended up in one pullout for over half an hour, and ended up arriving an hour late to Ollantaytambo.

We took the Peru Rail “Vista Dome” Train from the Ollantaytambo Station to Machu Picchu, and returned the following day to the same station – but by “Expedition”.
The services in the Vista Dome are obviously much better – lots of people helping with the luggage, bringing in snacks and paid drinks served twice, and the staff making sure that we were comfortable during the hour and a half ride. They even had pretty Table Runners on the way in. The service was much simpler on the way back. They only came once for drink and snack orders. Everyone was exhausted anyway, and we even managed to sneak in a little nap.
Having said that, the train travel itself was lovely, the views of the “Veronica” snow peaks were great, and the lush greenery in the Andes Mountains all along the way was very soothing.
All-in-all, it was a fun ride, and we got to check off the Inca Citadel off our bucket list.

It's not worth the extra price for the service. They do not warn that drinks are paid in some cases

The train trip is through the most spectacular countryside of Peru. The train was very comfortable and our servers did an excellent job of making us feel special. Javiera, Ismael, and Gabriel went above and beyond to make sure our trip was fantastic!

Ange R, Juliana and Alex were great. It was a fabulous trip from Aguas Calientes. And you can buy baby alpaca sweaters, scarves etc while on the train.

Can I book 7 person to machu Pichu from Cusco going and coming back the same day?

Yes you certainly can.
I strongly recommend not to take the train in Cusco, but take it from Ollantaytambo. That will save you at least 1-1,5 hours in the train.
You can rent a van from Cusco to Ollantaytambo and viceversa.
If you can spend the night in Ollantaytambo, that would be better. Great town and the ruins by the way.

Because of covid-19, not able to travel to Peru and have applied for refunds [less the 35% they said they would hold.] Have waited 2 months. would be interested to know the experience of others?

Well, as I traveled last November, some months before Covid-19, I had no similar problem. In Brazil, the government has authorized tourism related companies not to refund immediatelly customers, but to withhold the amounts paid by them as "credits" for future use. "Normal" (or "New Normal") days will come back again and soon. If PeruRail would offer me some deal like that, I would accept, as having visited Machu Picchu (and the Valley) impacted so strongly, so deeply. Really unmissable! Good luck, GailT334.

Unable to travel to Peru because of covid-19 & have applied for refund for VistaDome reservations [which they confirmed.] Have been waiting 2 months. I would be interested to learn of other people's experience?

Eu comprei no Miraflores shopping . Lá existe um quiosque e as vendedoras são muito atenciosas... pode pagar em cartão ( débito ou crédito) e vc compra a passagem de ida e a de volta independentes ... portanto pode comprar para o dia que quiser ! ... aproveite para almoçar no shopping, com vista para o mar ... linda paisagem ... caminhe pelo Malecom ( beira mar ) ... tipo calçadão daqui.
