Wow what an amazing team we were provided by Alpaca!! They completely exceeded my expectations including Cecilio and his teams wonderful cooking, we absolutely feasted on delicious food every meal time!! And the porters - head porter Emiliano - just blew my mind with how they managed the camps and carrying everything each day!! Incredible!! And lastly our guides Rodrigo and Nancy were the best we would of ask for!! Their encouragement and support was amazing and their knowledge of the history and the lessons they gave were very inspiring!! Thank you all for making our experience so special, Alpaca Is lucky to have you all!! So would highly recommend Alpaca! 😊

Alpaca Expeditions made our adventure one we will never forget. They are awesome. Our lead Guide Miguel and secondary Guide Carlos made us feel safe. Miguel and Carlos provide words of encouragement through out the trek and were very informative regarding the Inca trail and Inca Ruins.

Where to start… simply put we could not be happier with our experience with Alpaca Expeditions. From the pre trek briefing to our final lunch it was seamless. Juan Carlos (Huillca) & Henry were like the most expert Inca trail guides with a good side of “comedy sketch”, we felt safe and in the best hands at all times but man… did we laugh! If we return with our kids as planned it’s these two I’ll be requesting to be with… #family #babyalpacas
Cecilio the magician chef… we are all still wondering how on earth he produced restaurant quality food from a tent?! A beautiful cake?! But he did and it was amazing!
The porters are the true heros of course… what was especially nice was to be introduced to each and every one of them on our penultimate day. To shake hands and say thank you for their hard work.

Had a wonderful time trekking the Inca trail. Both the crew (headed by Marizol and Lisandro) and the other guests made this a very memorable journey. The porters headed by Victor took care of all our belongings and head chef Alex cooked amazing food. 25-28 May 2023

We had booked our classic inca trail 6 months in advance. During this period, the Peruvian government closed Machu Picchu. Alpaca Expedition kept us informed on the situation, which relieved us from a great amount of stress.
The briefing the day before the tour we met our guides, Juan Carlos Huillca and Henry. They both are the most cheerful, helpful, friendly, and what more, people. Juan Carlos made sure to provide us with more than enough information on the itinerary, using humor and his cheerful personality.
During the trip Juan Carlos made sure that everyone was being taken care of, together with Henry. Along with the amazing team of porters, and of course, our amazing chef, Cecilio, we had more than our heart desired. From cake at breakfast, to a live show of preparing Lomo Saltado during dinner, we were left satisfied.
The hike itself was challenging, but Juan Carlos Huillca, Henry, Cecilio, and the porters made sure it was as easy as it could be. They made our trip worth remembering (besides seeing Machu Picchu of clurse). I would recommend them to everyone!

Our trip on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu was amazing. Everything was well organized by Alpaca Expeditions and Miguel and Carlos were amazing guides. They were extremely knowledgeable about every sight we visited and took time to explain the cultural significance of each one. Sergio, the cook, was also great. He took great care of us and provided us with amazing food 3 times a day. This is a challenging hike, but the views and history along the way make it so rewarding.

It was a wonderful experience hiking the classic Inca trail with my 9 hiking friends! Our guide, Tino and his assistant Luz were so very caring and accommodating. They were passionate and very knowledgeable about Inca civilization. Food was great too. Once again thank you to Tino and Luz. Thank you also to our chef and his assistant as well as all the supporting porters! I highly recommend Alpaca Expedition.

Toda la experiencia es excelente, los paisajes, la historia y demás hacen que sea algo para hacer por lo menos una vez en la vida.
En cuanto a Alpaca, la organización es excelente, está todo pensado y en el momento de llegar al campamento los porteadores ya tienen todo listo con una amabilidad que sorprende.
Capitulo aparte para nuestros guías Rony y Yoel que aportaron todo su conocimiento del lugar y su experiencia en la actividad, ambos hicieron que la actividad sea aún mejor.
En cuanto a Alpaca, la organización es excelente, está todo pensado y en el momento de llegar al campamento los porteadores ya tienen todo listo con una amabilidad que sorprende.

No! Is the short answer- no company would take someone out for one day/night and then leave them on there own. If you treck with a company they are obliged morally and legally to ensure your safety.
There are paths of the inca trail all around cusco go on an organised tour from there for the day without camping.

Hi my husband and I are interested in doing this trip. Do we have to return to Cuzco at the end though? We are going to continue travelling around Peru after the tour so to return to the start point might not work for us. What would happen with our luggage would that come with us too? Thank you
We left our luggages at our hotel and we were driven back by Alpaca Expeditions to the same hotel after our 4d/3n Classic Inca Trail trek. The hotels are very accommodating in keeping the luggages for free. We got back late so I think it’s better for you to stay 1 more night in Cuzco to rest before moving on to other places in Peru.

My friend and I joined the Alpaca group in Ollantatambo. Upon our return we stayed another night in the same hotel. They held our luggage for us while on the trek. It worked perfectly and we didn’t have to get up as early as those starting in Cusco nor did we have a long bus ride after the hike. Ollantatambo is a lovely town. Highly recommend staying there.

Local hotels will store your luggage for free while you are on the trek. I would guess that the trek company would also store it, but we found it very convenient to have all our luggage already at the hotel when the trek was over. Our hotel actually had the luggage already in our room when we returned.

As the other response mentions, it varies. At the moment, the company we used and highly recommend, Alpaca Expeditions, is offering it starting at $695 per person. They also offer private options that are much more expensive, and you need to consider if you want any add-ons. We paid extra for the permit to hike up Huayna Picchu. And you also have to consider tips. They provide you with information of appropriate amounts for the guide, chef and porters. Please make sure you tip them well. They work very hard and well, and deserve it.

Day 1 - 14 km (8.6 miles), hiking up about 580 m (1,906 ft) to an altitude of 3300m (10,,829 ft) if you are camping at Ayapata.
Day 2 - 16 km (10 miles), hiking up to reach the highest pass at 4,200 m (13,779 ft) of altitude. Then down to 3,580 m (11,700 ft) of altitude, and then up again towards the second pass (4,000 m/13,123 ft). You camp at 3,600 m (11,800 ft) of altitude. This is by far the hardest day.
Day 3 - 10 km (6.2 miles). Primarily down hill with a few short climbs. This portion of the hike is really beautiful. You finish at about 2,600 m (8,700 ft) of altitude.
Day 4 - 5 km (3.3 miles). Easiest day with a lot of down time and the accomplishment of reaching your final destination.
