I've taken many day trips during my travels in Europe and this was one of the best ones I've been on. One reason is due to the driver and tour guide, Narcis. He is easygoing, knowledgeable, and a great driver.
There is plenty of walking so be prepared. Wear comfy shoes, bring water, and bring a snack since the tour begins pretty early in the day and it might be too early for breakfast.
Narcis took our group to a Bulgarian restaurant and recommended authentic dishes to try. He was right. The food was pretty great!
This was a fun experience and I learned a lot. Highly recommend Narcis and this tour!

This tour is the highlight of our stay in Bulgaria.
Narcis was our tour guide for the day and I must say you are in BEST hands, such an amazing guide. If companies hire such guides we are certain that the business would grow.
We have travelled over 35 countries , done many tours but the dedication, the warmth, the smooth flow of events , just everything was perfect with Narcis .
We were picked up on time from our hotel. All points on itinerary covered and beyond. Very informative tour. Engaging. Fun. We all enjoyed Bulgarian local food for lunch (not included) , loved it. Thanks to our guide to explain us all the dishes and make apt recommendations.

The guide, Narcis, was very knowledgeable. Everything was great. There was a lot of walking and climbing, so make sure to have a good breakfast before the trip. I left my hat at the place where we had lunch, and Narcis was kind enough to go back and get it for me. I also got some time to spend alone. Overall, I was satisfied with the trip.

There were parts that was out of my interest like going to the monastery but overall, it was an adventure to see the fortress and the artsy town of Veliko Tarnovo.
There are only 3-4 main stops in the tour and the rest will be spent driving.

This is a great and affordable alternative trip to go on, especially in case you have pretty much done everything else in/around Bucharest. Ioana was a great guide and very patient indeed, as we had a late start but they were kind enough to drop us back as close as possible to our final destination. The places we visited are very interesting. All in all a well worth it trip!

Excellent trip day trip to Bulgaria. Our tour guide Nasi was so knowledgeable. Gave lot of interesting history and background of Bulgaria. great trip but it was a long day. Highly recommend. We were lucky to have such a friendly tour guide which made a lot of difference to the whole trip.

The guide was great and very knowledgeable about the points of interest we stopped at. However, the whole plan and schedule of the trip doesn't make any sense... Way too much time riding on the bus, very little time to visit wherever we stopped. Delays at the border or waiting for someone at the bus make this a very tedious trip too.

Beautiful and amazing tour with Helen as one of the best guides we had our entire trip.
The tour was great and stopped at amazing locations and had great food.
The views and history are absolutely out of this world. The town in Bulgaria was really nice clean and had great souvenirs and unique places to see and do.
We would go again and request Helen and her driver which we had him on our salt mine tour.

My pickup point was near Hotel Minerva. There are a handful of spots scattered throughout the city. Mr. Tripp was very good at telling us exactly where and when to be ready for pickup.

Hello, I would like to take this tour with a friend, but he can't go inside the monastery, would this be a problem? And if not, is the price will be lower without the monastery tickets ?

The trip with mr. Tripp did not include the entrance fees to the monastery or the fortress. The guide collects the equivalent of 5 euros per person in Bulgarian currency to cover the fees to enter these two places. I’m sure the guide will accommodate this as this is one of the reasons they pay it separately. There is a place to wait outside the immediate entrance to the monastery and wait for the group.

We are from Canada, and didn’t need a visa to enter Bulgaria, which is a member of the European Union, although we were advised to carry our passports with us. You should check with your travel agent about visa requirements. I think the tour company in Bucharest that runs the day trips to Bulgaria should also be able to tell you if you’ll need a visa to visit Bulgaria. I wish you good luck, as this trip was well worth the time and money spent.
