The best tour I have ever taken because of guide Mihai. He was absolutely amazing and exhibited a true passion and extensive depth of knowledge about subject matter. Highly highly recommend requesting Mihai. He answered all my many questions and I was just so enthralled with his presentation because he truly truly brings history to life. 5 stars. Nikki

Myself and a group of 5 others hired Mihai for a private Communism tour. Mihai was great, not only with his knowledge but also in keeping us entertained and with his detailed and patient answers to our questions. Our group spanned about 3 generations and I know we all learned something new not only about Bucharest but about communism in general. Would highly recommend!

We came to Bucharest two days ago knowing virtually nothing about the city. After taking the Ashes of Communism walking tour, we have a good understanding of how the city evolved, the conditions that existed before the Revolution in 1989, and how life in the city exists now. The tour included visits to a wide variety of buildings of the city but the focus of the tour was usually on how residents' lives were affected by the organizations that used the buildings. Our guide was very personable and knowledgeable. We appreciated that he was willing to adjust the tour to our interests and to share his views on how Romania is responding to life after the Revolution. We enjoyed the tour very much.

This was our first and our favorite tour while in Romania!! Emma was incredibly knowledgeable on Romanian history, not just Romanian communism!! She answered all our questions and told us a great skybar to go too! Lots of information and picked us up at our hotel which was incredibly convenient! Also showed us the alley with the umbrellas! An instagram lovers dream!! 🇷🇴

My wife and I had the pleasure of a private walking tour with Andra for the Ashes of Communism in Bucharest. To hear first hand accounts from Andra of the ordeal her family went through during the Communist leadership was heartbreaking. Andra was also so knowledgeable on the 1989 uprising and showed us specific locations involved in the uprising. If booking this tour in the future, we highly recommend that you request Andra.

We had a tour today with Emma, it was amazing! She is extremely knowledgable about the history of the city and explained everything very well. Emma was very friendly and showed us lots of places that we would never have found by ourselves. Would definitely recommend it!

I directly contacted the team in order to do a solo trip on the Ashes of Communism tour (online they advertise min.2 people) and they happily complied. My guide was Mihai Vataselu and he proved to be a fountain of knowledge with Romanian history of all periods, especially Communism. As a history buff and also a History teacher, the tour really expanded my knowledge and understanding of Romanian history and my latest interest, Communism. Mihai was super to hang out with and the information I learnt from him will be invaluable when teaching said history and experiences to my students. The tour encompassed several key sites and detailed information by a very passionate Mihai. He was also ever so kind to book me in to another tour later on in the day to Ceauşescu's Spring Villa (a must see), and he even drove me there in this car which is what I call excellent service!! Ashes to Communism tour is a tour you should definitely do if you'd like to learn more about this era! Thanks Mihai for a fabulous day

My wife and I are grateful that we scheduled this tour during our visit to Bucharest. Our guide Emma was excellent, not only providing insight into what life must have been like during the Communist regime, but also effectively putting it into perspective against the remarkable history of Romania.
