It is very easy to go to Santa Ana volcano by yourself. You do not need to book a tour. I stayed in the previous night in Santa Ana. There is a bus station in town to catch the bus to Santa Ana volcano. Out front is a security guard with a gun, don’t worry, they see everywhere. As I was approaching the bus station, he was waving to me. I must have stood out and he knew that is there I wanted to go. Inside, you buy a bus ticket, less than $2. There are a couple of shops to buy water and snacks. Pretty soon the room filled up with other tourists going to the volcano. Everyone gets on the bus. Don’t worry about where to get off. The bus driver knows. Everyone gets off. Walk up the path a little ways. There are English speaking guides, you pay $3 to the guide. Then to pay $5 entry fee. Walk to the volcano. Half way up is a man selling homemade ice cream bars. Amazing views. When you walk back down to get the bus, up the road a little bit, that leaves at 1pm to go back to Santa Ana if that’s where you’re staying.

I booked a 10-day private tour with Salvadorean Tours. Eduardo, the trip designer did a great job on my itinerary. My guide Eduardo was fantastic! We covered many volcanoes, national parks, archeological sites, culture routes, turtle trip, scenic drive and boat ride, amazingly beautiful. The turtle capture trip is very unique, informative and meaningful. I’m planning to come back to do more and see baby turtles go back to the sea. The Fonseca boat tour is unexpectedly beautiful, different views than my previous visit to tropical islands. I’ve traveled around 90 countries and worked with quite a few tour guides. Eduardo’s passion, knowledge, thoughtfulness is definitely among the top. My El Salvador trip is truly memorable. Highly recommend Salvadorean Tours and highly recommend my guide Eduardo!

Our tour guide irving was amazing! He was very knowledgeable and patient with us since it was our first hike this big. Everyone was so welcome and our driver was the best! Stopped along the way to talk about the culture and history !

Tuve la oportunidad de ir al volcán de Santa Ana y hacer La ruta de las flores. En ambas ocasiones tuve el mismo guía, Adonis, un chico muy agradable y respetuoso. Salimos temprano para evitar la multitud y cómo agradecí ser de los primeros en subir. Adonis fue paciente durante la subida, permitiendo los descansos que fueron un poco más corridos según el camino se me hacía más difícil.
La ruta de las flores estuvo muy bonito. Conocer lo que ofrece cada pueblo y un poco de historia detrás de estos pueblos indígenas fue interesante.

The hike to Santa Ana was fantastic. Glad we got there earlier and beat the crows on this Sunday hike. The group was small and organized. Pick up was on time and the spot for lunch was so rewarding after the hike. Highly recommended if you visit El Salvador.

I took a tour of Santa Ana Volcano with tour guide Adonis, and he made it a great trip. Unfortunately the day we went it was very windy at the summit, and we were only allowed to go about 2/3 of the way. Because we had some extra time, Adonis took me to a ferry ride on Lake Coatepeque, which was a nice addition to the tour. Adonis was very friendly and knowledgable.

Our guide was super knowledgeable and friendly. He allowed us to set the pace for the hike and we never felt pressured or rushed. He took photos of us once we made it to the top that turned out great. We were also able to stop before the hike to get snacks/drinks. He made us feel comfortable and we learned a lot along the way.
