We ventured “just around the river bend” several times (like Pocahontas) on a serene motor canoe ride. We soon came upon a small, tranquil and welcoming Embera village. Highly recommended for nature lovers and those who can appreciate being educated about a precious, preserved culture. Lunch was delicious and dancing so enlightening! Recommended to take smaller money notes to purchase hand-crafted trinkets, if so desired.

Gran experiencia visitando el poblado Embera! Nos hizo un día estupendo y todo fue según lo planeado, contáctamos con Tamara (+50763242898), me pareció muy atenta y cercana, la recomiendo😆

Todo bien organizado y tal como esperábamos. Muy recomendable. Nosotros contactamos con Tamara (+507 6324-2898) y sin ningun problema tanto para el desplazamiento como con la visita a la comunidad :)

We had an amazing time visiting this indigenous village. The guide was friendly and helpful. The locals were cheerful and made some typical dances and performances, which was great to get into spirit. Food was simple but delicious, freshly fried fish and plantain served in plantain leaves. Overall great adventure!

Mario picked us up at our hotel in Panama City at 8:10 am. He spoke pretty good English. He was very helpful and friendly. It was a private tour with just me and my 9-year old daughter. He drove us to the boat launch dock where we met our two Embera boat drivers as well as a couple from Spain and their guide. All 8 of us rode the long canoe for about 20 minutes to the waterfall trail. We hiked for about 20 minute along and through the creek to the waterfall. Spend about 30 minute at the waterfall, swimming and playing on a log before heading to the village. The village was great, we got a talk from the elder about the village and their customs, danced with the locals, ate a local meal of fish and fried plantain, bought a few items from the stands set up by the families and walked around the village before returning to our hotel around 3pm. Overall, it was a great way to spend a day and Almiza Tours did a great job.

We had an excellent guide who drove us to the river from Panama City. There we got into a dugout and sailed down the river to the Embera Village. You could see alligators in the water, spider monkeys in the trees and birds singing their hearts out. You a in a deep tropical rain forest. You come to the village and are greeted by the Chief and a band of musicians. You have a tour of the village, meet the "biological medicine man" and listen to the stories of the Embera Indians from the Chief's youngest son. We had lunch up in one of the main huts. Below is a market with their native wares, which were beautiful and reasonably priced. We watched and were asked to join in, as the Emberas played their flutes and drums and danced around in circles. The music was very tantalizing and enjoyable. We felt we had stepped back in time and were able to see a society that was rich and alive, but still clinging to its heritage.

Wir waren wirklich begeistert von diesem Tag.
Wir wurden pünktlich um 8 Uhr an unserem Hotel abgeholt. Ich hatte mich vorher per Mail nach der Pick up Zeit erkundigt, whats app wäre aber auch gegangen. Insgesamt waren wir nur 4 Personen, was den Trip wirlich sehr privat machte. Die Fahrt zum Fluss dauerte ca. 1 Stunde und in der Zeit erzählte uns Mario sehr viele interessante Sachen über Panama und dessen Bewohner. Unterwegs wurden Getränke und Früchte fürs Mittagessen gekauft. Wir mussten dann in ein Holz-Motorboot umsteigen, welches von zwei Embera gesteuert wurde und mit dem ging es ca. eine halbe Stunde im Affenzahn in den Regenwald. Nach einer kurzen Wanderung konnte man im Wasserfall baden. Also unbedingt Schuhe anziehen, die nass werden können und Schwimmsachen drunter ziehen. Der Wasserfall war sauber und eine tolle Abkühlung. Danach ging es wieder zurück, ins Boot und in das Dorf der Embera. Die Menschen dort sind wirlich sehr nett, aber sehr zurück haltend und wenn man kein Spanisch spricht, wie ich, ist die Kommunikation leider sehr schwierig. Der Stammeshäuptling erzählte uns dann etwas über das Leben der Embera und ein Mädchen stellte uns deren Handwerkskunst vor. Danach wurde ein kleiner Tanz aufgeführt und dann gab es Mittagessen. Fisch und Kochbanane und Obst, war köstlich aber leider etwas wenig. Dann hatte man etwas Zeit, um das Dorf auf eigene Faust zu erkunden oder Souvenire zu kaufen und dann ging es auch schon wieder ins Boot und zurück ins Hotel. Uns hat es wirklich sehr gut gefallen, aber wir waren ca. 14.30 Uhr schon wieder zurück. Ich hätte gerne mehr Zeit überall verbracht und einen ganzen Tag gehabt und nicht nur ein paar Stunden.

although it was a nice place to see this was purely an affair to get us to buy souvenir and very little about ethnography of the people who we visit. Some brought candies as souvenirs. Although it is nice to give gifts the candies are likely the worse thing for health of these children.

Our tour guide Mario was very personable and informative. He spoke English very well and discussed the culture and history of Panama's indigenous tribes (mainly Embera and Kuna). The canoe ride was great, the walk to the waterfall was a little tricky in certain areas. I have bad feet but was able to keep up, Mario and his driver made sure no one slipped or fell where it was slippery or narrow. The Embera people were warm and inviting, I really enjoyed their information (translated by Mario) and was amazed at the hand made items they had available for sale. The time and effort that goes into each and every piece is unimaginable. My biggest regret is that I didn't bring enough cash to buy one of the wood carvings as well as the baskets and other treasures.
