The tour was one of the highlights of our trip. Dee Dee is so knowledgeable and generous with information. She went above and beyond our expectations! Not only did she share valuable information, she shared her heart. I found myself becoming quite emotional at various points. I’m already planning to bring my parents here, and we will most definitely book a tour. 👍🏾

Dee thanks again for a first class tour experience. It began with prompt text, verbal communications, and then front door 1st class pickup. This was me and my bestie first time in MV. Great tour that covered every part of the island that I wanted to see. Lead by someone born and raised on the island with personal anecdotes which was a nice addition.

The trip was cancelled on the morning of the tour by the company we originally booked with and we had to take a different tour with another company that was more expensive. Now awaiting a refund.

On behalf of HomeGrown Tours, I would like to sincerely apologize and take a moment to express how saddened we are that our customers suffered from our poor performance this past season. Many clients had issues with cancellations and refunds. We realize how frustrating this is and are making every effort to ensure this will never happen again.
To explain: HomeGrown Tours experienced one of our worst years... We were excited to add an extra vehicle to our fleet, which meant we could take more reservations and make more people smile. It also meant we were able to do more transports for wedding guests. Unfortunately, our new vehicle was vandalized on its 2nd day with us and couldn't be repaired until just recently due to limited resources and finding parts were no longer available. This in turn resulted in us having to make cancellations and disappoint a lot of people. We tried our best to "rebook" our clients with other companies and get refunds processed.
One of the companies that sell tickets for us also had issues with refunds. To be Understood: We do not have any payments from the clients until the following month... Thats our payday.... so many refunds were held up by fault of the company that the client booked through, not with us.
I hope this clarifies why refunds took so long....
We apologize from the bottom of our hearts to you that experienced this.
HomeGrown Tours would like to extend our hands and let everyone know that we have revamped our vehicles to provide the services you expect when booking your tour. We will make sure that your tour will be the highlight of your vacation.
We are pleased to announce that all vehicles are and will be well maintained and serviced to avoid any further complications.

As you can see in her responses to negative reviews posted on this site, the owner of this company is extremely rude to customers and dishonest to boot. When we tried to cancel our tour, she told us that she was unable to cancel it and that we would need to contact Viator, the booking agent, since it was outside the 24-hour cancellation window. However, she refused to give us the number. When we could not reach Viator, we decided to show up for the tour and found that she had resold our seats, doubling her profit. We learned that she had actually cancelled our reservation after telling us that she couldn't. She initially refused to give us a refund, but after several phone calls, she agreed to refund our $180 if we requested it through Viator. We did that, but when Viator called her to confirm, she lied and said that WE had cancelled the tour outside the 24-hour window and refused to approve the refund. No way would we have showed up for the tour if we had a confirmed cancellation. This appears to be a scam to sell the same tickets twice. In our case, she sold three $60 tickets twice, earning a cool $360.

you canceled the morning of..... you cannot expect a refund when it clearly states the 24 hour window.... and then you showed up without ANY calls expecting to get on... yes we sold the seats because there are many people wanting our tour... :) You threatened our driver and me on the phone.... and then you want me to oblige?? we dont want folks that are threatening on our tour... we keep our customers safe .... you have no God givin reason to bash my company because of YOUR mistakes... and i have EVERY text that show how awful you were .... would you like me to post them?? and then you write me a threatening letter.... have a good summer... keep smiling... :) I HAVE THE TRUTH BEHIND ME.... so say what you want

It is all it's advertised to be. Spectacular views, charming cities and it's easy going BUT it's pricy and don't be on a tight schedule. Take your time to visit. Arrive early and leave late.
We opted not to stay on the island but the cities and venues are remarkable.
GETTING AROUND
We took the ferry as a walk on passenger (no need to reserve but do get there 30 min before) - nice 45 min ride that goes by so fast.
On the island, you can take Tours, Scooters, Rent a Car, Bicycle, UBER or public transport. If you are on a tight schedule and want to explore, I would strongly recommend scooter, car or uber. Public transit is very good but if on a tight schedule you will only skim the surface of this magnificient island. Same for a paid tour.
Public Transit - option we took, only 8$ for the day and good service but we were on a tight schedule so had to take UBER for 1 trip from Edgartown to Aquinnah to make it more time efficient but if you are not on a tight schedule, public transit is excellent.
UBER cost us $66 USD from one end to the island. Very good option to avoid missing a bus (tight transfer schedules)
Tours - you only skim the surface of the island but it's no hassle.
Scooter - seem fun, but main roads are very narrow so somewhat not secure. Also, very expensive.
Rent a car - good luck, reserve months in advance and very expensive.
Bicyle - good option. Many cycling paths.
If you are well off financially or want to make it memorable, I would recommend renting a Jeep or convertable. It is the perfect setting to do so in the summer.
VENUS
Oak Bluffs - nice litte coast line city. Beautiful coastline housings. Commun Street is a cute little place, but mainly shops and stores. Cute little beaches as well. If you don't go to the beach, I think 1 hour is enough in that town. If you go to the beach, it changes duration time. Water is clear, beach is sandy, not too rocky.
Edgardtown - I prefered it compared to Oak Bluffs. This has more of a fisherman town feeling, but OMG the streets, houses, docks, marina, restaurants, lighthouse are unbelievable. I'd recommend spending min 2-3 hours (if not rushed) if you want to eat or drink there and tour around.
Aquinnah - THE PLACE for natual scenic view. Amazing lighthouse, nice beach (rocky sand) with stunning multicolored cliffs. True beauty. take the time to talk on the beach and walk around the cliffs. Since its a rocky sany beach, bring water shoes for a more comfy walk. Water is warm. First 2-4 feet into the water is rounded soft rocks but after that it's nice sand. I could spend half to a full day there to enjoy scnenary and relax. Don't expect a town, it is seculuated with basic foods amenities but the beauty is remarkable.
The UBER driver was telling us about Chippaquiddick Island off of Edgartown. Ferry is about 5 minutes duration. Apparently amazing and worth seeing. Recommendation transportation on the island is renting a bicycle. Next time, it's on my to do list!
TIGHT BUDGET OPTION
If you have a tight budget and can't afford sleeping on the Island, another option is lodging at Wood Hole (where the ferry is) or Falmouth (free shuttle to the ferry) and go back and forth between island and your hotel. You can cut costs by half doing so BUT don't be pressed with time because you have the 45 min ferry back and forth to consider, but if you want to fully explore Martha Vineyard over a long weekend, it's a good option.
Have fun.

So disappointed to receive a call from Dee Dee with Home Grown Tours at 3:44 PM, the day before our scheduled tour, that our 10:30 AM tour for tomorrow was cancelled due to bus mechanical issues. She offered to move us to a different tour bus at 2:30 which was appreciated until I inquired about wheelchair accessibility. She informed me that our original bus and the 2:30 backup bus were both not wheelchair accessible. My mom is 92 and requires a wheelchair and was so disappointed. This was the only tour on the island that was listed as "wheelchair accessible". She informed us of public transportation on the island that is ADA compliant, but it offers no tour and would be on/off. I understand mechanical issues occur, but we should have been informed the day of the booking that no tour bus currently running is wheelchair accessible. Thankfully we were also able to get a refund for the ferry we had booked through a separate company.

Your description of covid accomodations includes social distancing. With that in mind, how many people will be on the bus and how many people is the bus designed to hold? I'm hoping that masks will be required while on the bus, is that a good assumption?

The guidelines with masks are always changing. With that in mind , I believe masks will be required while on the bus. Going outside to the different locations, I'm really not sure. You would have to check with All Island Bus Tours to see how many people will be allowed on the tour bus.
