The museum offered everything I expected and more! The communist lifestyle and social realism was very well put forward, and we found many household items reminding us of our youth in Finland - if not communist, close to the eastern block anyways. This is how the history should be told - not to cover the sometimes darker aspects, but to tell everything openly.

I was automatically drawn to this museum when booking my itinerary for my trip to Dubrovnik - mostly because I enjoy history and studied the politics of the former Yugoslavia when studying at university - was not disappointed.
The guy working on the reception was extremely friendly and willing to answer questions about the information that was presented a long the walk - he was extremely knowledgeable and we were able to have a non-judgemental conversation about European history in general.
Definitely recommend that you visit this quaint little place!!

Enjoyable experience. Gave an insight into what life was like in the old Yugoslavia. Very text heavy but well worth a visit.

If you find yourself in Dubrovnik, the Red History Museum is an absolute must-see. It's a hidden treasure that manages to both entertain and educate, leaving you with a profound understanding of life in communist Yugoslavia.
It's conveniently located near the Gruž Harbor. If you’re staying near old town, getting to the museum is a breeze – just a quick 30-minute stroll or a 10-minute bus ride.
As others mentioned, the museum is ideal in size – not an all-day tour, but a delightful stop that allows you to immerse yourself without feeling overwhelmed.
Every section of the museum has something unique to offer, with one area presenting a meticulously crafted replica of a traditional 1970s Yugoslavian home. Stepping inside feels like traveling through time. Make sure to take your time checking out the interactive displays in the replica kitchen, bedroom and living room. There’s plenty of fun surprises and interesting facts hidden behind cabinet doors and under bunk beds. The interactive bits amp up the fun factor and make the history feel more alive and accessible.
Personally, I very much enjoyed the hall of photos featuring real families, each with a funny, heartwarming, or fascinating tale. Don’t miss the wall showcasing the music and pick up a bottle of Cockta on your way out, a Slovenian soda with a backstory that's as intriguing as it is delicious.
The Red History Museum surprises and delights at every turn. It is an essential stop for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the region's history. Definitely add it to your list.

Bathroom. We notice, we see you and appreciate you. Sending love. A must visit for anyone in the area

Really interesting museum. It's well laid out, you see the good side of socialism and then move into the dark side!
There are lots of interactive elements to it and lots of information.
The only negative is that at the end, it advertises you can try Yugoslavian drinks but not sure where that was supposed to be!

A great little museum giving you insight to the 1991 war and former Yugoslavia. The museum is well laid out with a lot of great information and exhibits. You get a discount with the Dubrovnik pass. Definitely worth a visit.

This museum is located near the harbour, a ten minute bus ride from the old town center (or a 30 minute walk, if you feel like it). It is a small, engaging museum, detailing the life of ordinary people in socialist/communist Yugoslavia, as well as describing how their politics differentiated from those the Soviet Union. You are essentially walking through a replica of what a regular home in 1970s Yugoslavia could look like and looking at pictures of people living their lives at the time - both tourists and locals alike. The museum also has a VR-station, where you can see what the original factory building, at which premises the museum is now located, looked like from the inside. And you can have a little taste of tradition Yugoslavian candy as well. The man at the desk was very friendly and attentive as I left the bigger part of my luggage behind to go explore. You get a discount with the Dubrovnik pass. All in all, this was well worth the visit, and I left the museum, having learned something new.
