Brief: It was two amazing days with a lot of fun, interactives, and the wonderful company of the guide. I strongly recommend visiting Chengdu with My Panda Tour (5/5).
More details: My wife and I had a tour around China, and we firmly decided to take part in a volunteer program and to see the most extraordinary sights in the city. So, we googled tour companies and found My Panda Tour (I also recommend using their official website because, from my point of view, it's more suitable than TripAdviser). We contacted them and booked the Wolong Panda Base Private Tour. Also, together we came up with a new direction, "1-day Sichuan Cooking and Sichuan Opera Tour," thus making our dream come true. Paid by Paypal without any surprise. Messaging in WeChat (standard in China). Although it was May and rainy weather, all the stuff was super positive and friendly. They picked us up near the hotel lobby, suggested raincoats, conducted excursion during a transfer, and passed us to base with no line. I won't describe the Panda Base; better just visit it. Guide made loads of us' photos. On the next day was exactly the same; many impressions. I can say more: buddies made clips from our videos; that's cute, and I'm really appreciative of these. Merely f*cking magnificently, I hope we'll cross paths with this team in the future again.

The first day I went to volunteer in Wolong, Rosa was my tour guide and Nie was the driver. They were very punctual in arriving, Rosa told me a lot about the pandas and gave me some curious information, arriving at the place no one else had volunteering scheduled so Rosa accompanied me in each activity. I was able to enjoy a lot of time watching the pandas, it's quite quiet so it was nice. I would have liked to see the pandas more closely, or have had a closer type of interaction through volunteering, but unfortunately it is not possible, what can or cannot be done depends on the center so it can only be abided by. The activities are to clean a space (take out the garbage and poop from the pandas), split bamboo, see how they feed one of them (without photos), make a panda pancake, watch a documentary and at the end they give a diploma plus some souvenirs. The second day I did the same volunteering but in Dujiangyan, this time only with Nie as the driver, again very punctual, the same activities. Nie, despite not speaking English at all times, made an effort to keep me informed of the activities and accompanied me, for which I appreciate her commitment. In Dujiangyan there were more people volunteering, and in general there were more people in the center so it can be a little noisier, however, the spaces, despite being large, allow you to see the pandas very closely so You can enjoy them more, but you don't see babies unlike Wolong where there are many small pandas. In general I would have liked a little more interaction with the wonderful giant pandas, but the management of mypandatours is appreciated, I did not have any problems, they were very punctual and committed, in addition to being safe, communication was also good at all times so I think it was a very good option to have everything prepared beforehand with them. Thank you Alvin, Rosa, Nie and Mr Lee.

It was amazing! Jason our guide was very knowlable and patient, he answered all out questions about the Pandas. The volunteering was very interesting and we could see them from a close distancie. We could notice the team has a lot of experience on the panda conservation. We were very lucky the day we went as it snowed some hours before we arrived so the pandas were quite active. We loved it!

When we reached out to Alvin and his team at the last minute, they truly showcased their professionalism and dedication. They attentively listened to our requirements and crafted a completely customized tour plan that catered to our needs
Not only did they ensure a seamless experience, but they also provided exceptional care. Nie, our super helpful and caring guide, picked us up on time from your Chengdu hotel. Nie went above and beyond by assisting us in purchasing tickets, making sure we had snacks, and ensuring a hassle-free journey.
We were fortunate to visit during autumn, when the trees surrounding the base displayed vibrant and colorful hues, creating a picturesque backdrop for the adorable pandas. With fewer people around, we were able to thoroughly enjoy our time there.
Alvin and his team truly deserve praise for their outstanding service and attention to details making the complete experience so memorable.

We were leaded by Alvin, the most hospitality panda lover I’ve ever met. We started with cleaning panda’s house and playground, one of the funniest thing is that Panda’s poop actually smells very refreshing lol. We even had a chance to feed the panda by ourselves. This is truly the best panda experience I ever had in my life.

Panda lovers must visit Wolong Panda Base! I joined the volunteer tour alone and was guided by Sunny who is the same age as my sister. She is very friendly and I had fun chatting with her while the tour.
At the panda base, I really enjoyed cleaning the giant panda’s house, feeding the panda, and seeing the adorable pandas! Especially the twins with their mother and the 1 year old pandas living together is what I was dreaming to see in my life. I love that the place was less touristy and you don’t need to squish others to see the pandas.
If you are visiting Chengdu, I think Wolong panda base is the best place to visit and if you have a chance, you should join the volunteer program too. You will never get a chance to feed panda in your country I guess! Also you can get a very nice volunteer certificate after completing the program.
If I had a chance to come back to Chengdu, I will definitely join this tour again.

I was directed to Alvin, the owner of My Panda Tour via several members of a private Facebook group dedicated to the DC pandas I’m a member of.
Upon reaching out, Alvin instantly emailed back. After a few email exchanges he hand-tailored a three-day tour that including volunteering, feedings, visits with Bei Bei, Bao Bao and Tai Shan, as well as other panda related things I wanted to experience. In addition meals, as well as transportation to/from the airport were included.
My guide Rita was the best. She was extremely knowledgeable in all-thing pandas, Chengdu, and Chinese culture. Incredibly cheerful she answered all my questions. Which were many and often. My driver was wonderful too. Always on time and incredible.
Being so close to these magnificent creatures was beyond incredible. In addition to knowing the bases are research and breeding centers helping to repopulate the Giant Panda and get them back into the wild.
From start to finish every detail was attended to, every aspect seamless. The entire experience was exceptional. I’m forever grateful to Alvin has his team. If you’re planning on visiting Chengdu to see the pandas, My Panda Tour is an absolute must.

Memorable day at the panda sanctuary. You could spend endless hours just watching them. So glad I chose the volunteering option, the experience would have been so different without it. Helping clean and feed the pandas made me feel I’m part of the family. Thumbs up to our guide Greenie, who was extremely cheerful, passionate about pandas, and spoke perfect English. It was indeed a pleasure having her us the guide.

My guide was very flexible so if you want to visit the gift store I am sure they will fit that in for you. My recollection was there wasn't anything special in the gift store - just stuffed pandas, which you can get anywhere in chengdu cheaper, postcards and such. If you join the volunteer program you get a teeshirt, a bunch of very nice postcards with various photos of pandas and a certificate. So I ended up not buying anything in the gift store.

You get to feed the pandas twice, once in the morning amd once in the afternoon. It's a great experience but it is really fast. Several people feed each panda. Each person is given two types of food to give the panda. One piece looks like a slice of meatloaf (but it's not that. It's made up of stuff specifically for pandas). I think the other piece was some bamboo. Each person takes a turn to feed this to the panda. So you actually spend only about 1-2 minutes feeding the panda in the morning and then again in the afternoon. While you are doing this your guide can take pictures of you with your phone. You spend about an hour watching a very informative video about the work they have done to raise pandas and introduce them back into the wild. I had a lot of time to visit the whole base and see all of the pandas and take lots of video and pictures because I didn't do the panda cage cleaning because I had hurt my knee thexweek before when I was in Thailand. I know that they do allocate time for you to do this but I don't know how much time you have if tou do the panda cage cleaning. I suspect you will have enough time to see the pandas on the vase because I did see other people from the volunteer group as I walked around the basexwith my guide. Ihighly recommend the experience.

Thanks for reply. Another two questions. 1) the price includes the two-way transport? 2) if half of us want to do the volunteering and the other half does not want to do the volunteering, can we still arrange the two way transport to coincide with each other? (So those not doing volunteering can come in earlier with those doing, and go back later as well)

Yes the price includes roundtrip transportation. If you want to do the volunteer program it's more expensive. Trip advisor shows you the price with and without the volunteer program but all prices include roundtrip transportatuon. The company is very flexible so I am sure they will be able to work out whatever you need. Just email Alvin at the email address/website shown on trip advisor and tell him what you want to do and he will make it happen.

Hi I have a few questions:
- A few different prices stated on the website. If I were to book for 24 November (Sunday), What would be the price (in USD or RMB) for 1) Day tour WITHOUT volunteering, 2) Day tour WITH volunteering, 3) Panda photo-op (and more details on this such as timing and restrictions)
- Volunteering: examples of what type of cleaning the volunteers would have to do?
- If we were to opt for the tour WITHOUT volunteering at first, but decide on the day that we want to do volunteering (add-on), is it possible? If not, how much in advance can we change it to a tour WITH volunteering? How much would we have to pay for this add-on? Will this be paid in cash on the day itself (for last minute add-on)?

Hi, It will cost USD280 for 1 people private tour without volunteering. It will cost around USD380 for 1 people private tour with volunteering. The panda photo program is not available now.
-The volunteers need to carry and split the bamboo, pick up the leftover and wash the floor, make the panda cakes and feed pandas. The cleaning is not mandatory. The volunteers can skip it based on their interests.
-The volunteering spaces are limited per day. We need to make a reservation to secure the space. It’s best to secure the volunteering space 2 to 3 weeks before the tour. The panda base will collect cash RMB700/per person for panda volunteering on the day. Let me know if any other questions :)

When we went last july it was RMB 700/pp to volunteer (clean cages, feed by hand (outside of cage, not inside), lunch, make "panda cakes", tour facility and see them in areas. If you want to coveted photo sitting next to one, it was another RMB 1800/pp. Let me emphasize you only get about 30 seconds with the panda while a staffer uses your cell phone to snap MANY shots for you.
May seem like a lot but you will cherish the photo and experience forever. My recommendation is really focus n the panda during the time and not look elsewhere - burn it into your memory.
