We were taken (exactly on time as in the Whats App message) in a very large air-conditioned bus to the Aviary (about 1 hour 15 minutes south) with an English speaking guide, Sergio. Along the way, he explained about the Aviary and Playa Blanca. At the Aviary, Sergio accompanied us, explaining in English about the various birds. There are lots of signs with avian details but mostly in Spanish. The path is an easy walking path. Halfway along, there is a bathroom and refreshments booth. We spent like 2 hours there.
Then the bus picked us up (exactly on time) and brought to the beach parking lot. We walked down steps and along the crowded beach to the Mambo beach club. It's got covered seats (plenty) to sit on. We were given a welcome lemonade. We chose 1 grilled chicken lunch and 1 fried fish lunch, each has a small salad an rice. The fish is fried whole with skin and bones but yummy. We had passion fruit Margheritas thst we paid for.
The club has 2 changing rooms, and 2 toilets. Water for flushing is from a large barrel, from which you fill and take in a plastic can for your own use.
The beach is truly white sand. Yes, there are boats coming and going but still enjoyable. Yes, there are vendors, but only 1 of them was aggressive. All the others are friendly and if you say no, they go away. The massage ladies work for the beach club. They can be paid via CC with the beverages. They keep asking about a massage but are also friendly and if you don't want a massage, just repeatedly say no. It wasn't unpleasant.
Again, exactly at the time they said, we walked back to the bus. There was some traffic on the return. All in all, I would certainly do this again.

The initial experience was ruined by uncomfortable transportation conditions, with overcrowding and the unsettling presence of coughing passengers. Furthermore, the logistical arrangements were far from satisfactory. Being left unattended at the aviary for an extended period suggests a lack of proper guidance and supervision from the tour operators. While the beach portion was okay, the overall experience was disappointing, and I wouldn't recommend this tour or agency.

The aviary was a really cool experience with some amazing birds to see closely. Very colorful macaws, condors, flamingos, parrots, etc. There was not time at the aviary to both see the bird show and also walk through the entire aviary. I chose to have a nice walk through the aviary and had a pleasant couple hours.
The Mambo Beach Club was nice. A good lunch with many drink, and massage options.

The instructions they gave were so unclear. First they write the tour starts at 9h, so be there at 9h30… Then, the evening before the tour they write to tell you to be there at 9h45. I didn’t want to miss such an expensive tour, so I got there at 8h45. Finally, the bus got there at 10h (…)
The guides did know how to say what they wanted to say in english, but they were no english guides at all. If you asked questions they did not understand half of what you said, so communication was horrible.
The bus is in fact a very old minibus that smells gasoline and that is super noisy and uncomfortable. The guides don’t give explanations at all, no history or whatsoever. We were nit half of the bus that took the aviary with the beach, the other half only took the beach. I paid 132$ cad to get both, I talked with the other people that only took meal and beach and they paid 35$ US. WHY ON EARTH WOULD IT BE SO MUCH MORE TO GET THE AVIARY? This is stealing from people, it’s only 15 min away from the beach.
When we get to the aviary, this is no guided tour. They drop us there and tell us you have 2 hours. Then at the beach they guide us to the beach club and then they stay in a corner having fun together and not taking care of the clients.
Talking about that beach club, they just want to make money. First, half of the places to sit are sunbeds, but you need to pay 41$ cad if you want to use those… What a joke. Then you get a welcome drink that is made of some kind of tomato. I don’t eat tomato, so I asked to change for something else and they refused. The lunch is included, but it is in fact a credit of 10$ cad and 95% of the menu is more so you have to pay the difference which gets more then double. I took the burger, the worst burger plate I had in my life. When I said I would not pay the difference if they didn’t give me something to drink with my meal to replace my welcome drink, they finally accepted to replace.
You would think paying that much to be in a beach club would provide you with quiet time, but no. I won’t talk about the horrible loud music as it is a common thing in Colombia, but those harrassing sellers. First, the beach club itself have fake massage therapists that comes ten times to bother you so you pay for a massage. Then the staff from the beach club ask you to buy drinks. Then you would think in that kind of place beach sellers are not allowed? Well it’s even worst because they think look at those rich gringos, let’s try to suck the money out of them. I got a line up of everything… Trying to sell me ice cream, popsicles, mangos, oysters, bracelets, necklaces, hats, pearls… You name it.
I was so annoyed by the pushy sellers that I decided to go for a swim. There is so many boats and jetski’s that it’s dangerous to get into the water. The water is polluted badly and the smell of gasoline is horrible. After two minutes there, a boat almost hit me and I decided to get out.
The afternoon was a never ending nightmare, then I started to get sick because of the smell of gasoline. I told the guide I was sick and I was walking to the bus. He let me go alone and the two guides remained at the club. In the bus, I felt sick all along the way, I was sitting next to the tour guides and NEVER did they ask if I was ok or if I needed something. They just had fun together and laughed like high school kids. They didn’t even say bye when I got off.
This is a rip off. That company stole my money and didn’t provide anything that was a value of 132$. That tour should have been, at most, 70$. Do yourself a favor. And don’t let them scam you and steal your money. Don’t buy their « tour ».

Beautiful places, the guide Jose was super attentive, friendly, and was very attentive to everyone and everything during the tour; Also, on the beach where we ate, the food was delicious and the staff was friendly.
The only thing we didn't like, which has nothing to do with the guide or the agency, is that there are too many boats that arrive and are not careful with the people who are swimming, and many times you have to get out of the sea because they don't stop, They should have marked or specific places to avoid accidents.

We really liked the tour. For us, the issue of transportation to the Aviary was very complicated and in this case this tour helped us with this.
They were very punctual and we even spent longer in the Aviary than other tours. Engel knows the place, the birds and places to take photos very well. He accompanied us at all times and did not pressure us to go fast. We always went at a good pace and that is something to value when it comes to tours.
In Barú beach everything is very good. The advice they gave us worked perfectly for us.

The aviary is a must see!!! I know there are other excursions out there on baru but trust me, the aviary is worth it!!! 🦜I have never been to a zoo or animal sanctuary of any kind that lets me get so close to the animals so freely. The aviary has an exceptional layout and the whole park was incredibly clean and well taken care of! 🦩The birds were absolutely out of this world and you can actually see them all (unlike some places where the animals are hiding). There are iguanas running around on the grounds with the peacocks! 🦚 If you’re an animal lover (particularly with birds like me) this is an absolute must! There was the beach portion after which was nice! Music was a bit too loud but the food and vibes were great ~ 🌀

The birds are beautiful, the entire tour is beautiful, the truth is I feel very grateful for the extensive attention, thanks to Yasira for always being on the lookout. I highly recommend the backpackers agency
