We visited St Catherine Monastery with a private car, driver and Nabil as our guide. Passage through the many checkpoints was a breeze and the 3h roadtrip was cut up in very managable chunks by stopping for a roadside coffee on the way up and lunch and a mini citytrip to Dahab on the way back.
Nabil is more than a guide, everywhere he goes, monastery or city, one out of three locals walks up to shake hands and greet him. He's very modest on the subject, but you can really feel he knows the land and his way around.
He also has a wide general knwoledge about Egypt, religion and history in general, which makes for great conversations on the road between the visits!
Communication beforehand and for pickup was very smooth through WhatsApp. Almost as smooth as the driver, whose very secure driving managed to rock us to sleep several times on the long winding roads.
Very recommended!

Our guide and driver were friendly and reliable. Appreciated knowledge of history, I learnt so much. Loved stopping in Dahab on the way back. Beautiful view, food and a little shopping. A great day abc s forever memory. Thank you.

We’ve been on several tours in Egypt, but Mohamed was the most knowledgeable guide we encountered. He answered all our questions and had a deep background in history and religion. We highly recommend him if you want an in-depth understanding of what you’re visiting.

Expert and committed Guide (archaeologist), via Sharm Smile. Speaks good intelligible English! Had an eye for what we were interested in and adjusted the route/stops accordingly. Is involved in a social project to help the disadvantaged Bedouin to earn income (souvenirs, vegetable garden and olive grove near the monastery). Told not only about the monastery, but also about daily life in Egypt now. New car, sanitary stop at modern coffee point / gas station. Long excursion, but relaxed.
Including excellent lunch in Bedouin restautant by the water: relax. Beautiful trip through Sinai, where we saw the sun rise. According to the Guide, the journey up the mountain to see the sunrise is very difficult. We were there on Wednesday, then there are no walking tours and so it is quiet in the monastery. Too bad opening hours are so limited: you have to leave the valley before noon. So there is no time for lumbering and exploring the area yourself. We have advised our travel company, SRC, to include this extension in their travel offer. No one has the monastery in the package. They had arranged this extra trip for us on request, following a standard Egypt trip. Sharm Smile should definitely be part of that!
Don't forget your passport and men and women should cover their knees and shoulders. Communication in advance was clear and everything was on time and as agreed.

We had an excellent private tour with Nabil (guide) and very pleasant driver. They were punctual, oragnised and good company. On the way, Nabil talked about the way of life of the Bedouin people whose lands we were driving through and the living terrain. At the Monastery, he balanced information with time to ourselves to spend longer in the museum collection. Returning, we enjoyed lunch at a good, sea front restaurant in Dahab and during the journey, shared a very interesting discussion with Nabil about the development of Egypt's historical spread of religions. The tour was exactly what we wanted: compact and responsive to our particular interests. This was our first experience of Sharm Smile and would certainly recommend them and return.

I have to say that SharmSmaile knocked it out of the park with their private tour from Sharm Al Sheikh to St Catherine monastery. We had pleasure to go with Muhammed and Ahmed. Muhammed was a tour guide while Ahmed was a driver. Muhammed had perfect English language skill and used it to tell us about history, heritage and culture of the place. He was very factual, informative and pleasant to talk to. Ahmed driving was professional, calm and safe. They both helped us navigate not only historic sites but also all police stops on a way. Without professional guide this trip would not be possible.
It was absolutely worth the price and we don't regret spending every penny. Don't think about booking bus tour as its even hard to compare and can be cancelled if operator don't have enough people.
Lunch in Dahab was very tasty and allow us to familiarise with under the hood, local way of life. Muhammed and Ahmed went above and beyond to service out trip even when we had extra request to pop into to local fruit market and buy mango.
All in all excellent service, great destination and well worth the money for quality of service. Thank you

Day Excursion to St Catherin’s Monastery led by Sharm Smile Tours. The day commenced at 6:00am from our hotel entrance our private car arriving on time. Our travel guide was Mohammed Nabil Abdallah who can only be described as excellent. He is a mind of information and knowledge, with the ability to make you interested and enthusiastic to learn more about the Bedouin way of life during the journey to the monastery. On arrival at St Catherin’s Monastery with a heritage dating back to the fourth century AD and what is claimed to be a descendant of the biblical burning UNESCO World Heritage site. Still a working Monastery it was obvious that he was well known by Monks and Bedouin employees and able to ensure that we obtained the most from our visit. His knowledge and willingness to make sure we missed nothing of interest during our visit being obviously of prime importance to him. The visit finished with us knowing much more about this historical and religious site and the Bedouin life style.
It was now time for the second part of our excursion with a stop at Dahab for Lunch overlooking the coast outline of Saudi Arabia. This again was a very memorable visit with an excellent meal included in the cost of the day. Throughout the day our driver drove making us feel at ease and contributed to us enjoying the day.

Fantastic day! Engy, our guide, was a delight & very knowledgeable on the history of Egypt & St Catherine Monastery. The lunch at Dahab sitting alongside the Red Sea was delicious. We would recommend this tour company to all lovers of history & a desire to learn about the life in contemporary Egypt.

What an amazing spiritual experience we had on a tiring but extremely eventful tour of St Catherine Monastery. Our tour guide was Tariq , a thorough multi lingual professional with very high intellect and complete grasp of his job. I stand much wiser on the history of St Catherine Monastery after this visit and all credit goes to Tariq our tour guide who did an exceptional job despite the fact that he was fasting being the 1st day of Muslim’s month of Ramadan. The trip was very well planned and timed to the minutest detail. I would recommend this tour through this company to everyone who wants the things to go smooth. Regards Sohail & Sarwat
