An interesting day out

The driver , Lucas, was very good. He picked us up on time and gave a commentary on the way, telling us about his generations of family on Jeju and about history of the places we passed on the way to the caves. He took us to the entrance and waited while we explored and returned us to the accommodation safely.

Cool… cool!
This is a huge lava cave! It is definitely cooler and damp, and every once in a while we got a drop on us, but in August we didn’t need any extra layering. The cool of the cave was a wonderful reprieve from the surface heat. We had no problem finding it using our Apple Maps (if you haven’t heard already google maps don’t work well in JeJu). Easy to find, park, and access. There is a nice little market/convenience store there so you can grab food and refreshments once you’ve completed the hike!

Late pickup and lots of misunderstanding

We chose this tour because we had already seen most of the other things on the island we wanted to see. Booked a tour at 10 and woke up to a message saying a driver would arrive at 11. I tried to figure out what was going on and just got the run around. The extremely low level of written English on the other side didn't help. Both me and my friend were vacationing here and working remotely so we need to schedule our day somewhat precisely and this threw everything off. When our driver did pick us up he was 20 minutes late and completely unapologetic. He spent the entire time acting annoyed and uncomfortable (hungover?). We tried to make the best of it, but let out a sigh of relief when he drove off at the end of this nightmare. Ruined our tour and our work.

Worth the hike

Hiking down into the cave is very interesting. There are tutorials as you advance through the lava cave in Korean and English. The lighting is very dim so take the walk slowly and wear good walking shoes. It was wet inside the tube and quite cool but we went in October. There is no handicapped accessibility to the cave.
