The food was amazing! The lady’s were very helpful and nice. They made cooking interesting while discussing Arusha. This is a must when you visit.

A great project that supports young women and much more.
The cooking class was fun and the food was very delicious (chicken stew, ugali, chapati and vegetables (pumpkin leaves)).
The preparation of the chapati was a bit tedious and baking in only one frying pan was very “pulling”. Otherwise a great experience with very entertaining women!

Absolutely wonderful experience! Three of our family went to the cooking class. all of the women and girls were lovely and we enjoyed getting to know them a little bit as well as help cook a delicious meal. I would recommend this class to everyone, even those who don't usually cook.

Wonderful experience with the women at Lifted Stong. Would highly recommend!
We had a delicious meal at the end of it!
The joy and hope Joyce and associates give to these women is uplifting.

We loved our NGO Lifted Strong cooking class, booking was simple and easy. Joyce and her team were really accommodating and even moved our booking to the morning so that we were able to squeeze the cooking class in before our flight. You have the opportunity to choose several traditional dishes and we decided on the samosas and soup!
As soon as we arrived we were made to feel welcome and were introduced to the charity and provided a background on all of their great work that they do for the local community. Then it was time to cook!
We headed outside to a traditional cooking area and were shown the traditional methods of making samosas with a variety of fillings from scratch. It was a hands-on and enjoyable experience and it was great to chat to the amazing woman who volunteer for the charity.
Finally it was time to enjoy our morning’s work and it was safe to say the samosas and soup were delicious! We sat with the team and discussed more of the fantastic work the charity has been doing in supporting women to be self-sufficient in Tanzania. Truly a worthwhile experience and one we won’t forget!
Thank you to the Lifted Strong team, what you do for the community is incredible. You have played a huge part in making our trip to Arusha incredible and we highly recommend this class!

What a wonderful experience this was! Three of us went. We helped cook four kinds of samosas and a pot of the most delicious soup. We made our own coconut milk from freshly grated coconut as well as chipati.
The girls are a joy and the mission of Lifted Strong is awesome. Eva and Joyce are so
inspirational. Please support this group.

We were going to be in Arusha for a couple of days before our safari so we booked a cooking class with Joyce of Lifted Strong. This turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip to Tanzania. Seeing animals in the wild is surreal, but meeting people where they are, where they live and work, is priceless. Joyce rents a small building on a bumpy road, about a half hour from the city, where she holds classes for her "mamas," women who are trying to build skills to better themselves, and for tourists like us.
With her three helpers, one a graduate of her program, and two current students, she taught us how to make samosas, chapati, and pea soup. Cooking in a wok over a propane tank, this was a real slice of Tanzanian life. The photo is of my husband scraping out the inside of a coconut while sitting on a little stool with a serrated piece of metal stuck in the end. This is a tool every kitchen should have if you're going to work with coconuts!

Really funny experience, we cooked (or try to) samosa, coconut soup (doing also the milk from the coconut) and Irio. The girls have been wonderful and they showed us the amazing work that they do for women and girls with health issues or from villages around. It's very important what they do, and doing the cooking class you can support them. Very nice 👍

The events of the day were set to be a surprise for me . I didn't know where we were headed . Once we arrived and were greeted by Joyce and then the young ladies I was pleasantly surprised as they provided a warm welcome. Their hospitality was much appreciated. As we were provided with an overview of the mission of Lifted Strong, along with the multiple ways that they aid and assist the girls and women in the community I became even more excited about this experience. Maria took the lead as she and Joyce guided us through the process of making different types of samosas from scratch along with other delightful dishes. I won't give away the entire menu for those that may choose to participate in the Lifted Strong cooking class. Asha and Fildos* worked seamlessly to make sure everything was ready for us. We were then joined by Dr. Eva, whom I assisted in frying the samosa to a golden brown crisp. The cooking class was both educational and engaging . All of the ladies made us feel welcomed. I would encourage everyone who visits Tanzania to take the Lifted Strong cooking class. You will not only have a great time and a wonderful meal but you will also contribute to a great cause and a great mission.
