Not visited Ipoh since 1970. Friends told me about this newly established trail about Dr. Sun's supporters here. We finally found time to revisit Ipoh for this reason, besides the famous yummy food Ipoh is reputable for. Didn't regret the 2 days spent. Very interesting indeed! Who would've thought that there's still unknown stories about Dr. Sun Yat Sen, and how he had left his mark here. Highly recommend to explore the trail. It's an easy self guided walk, as we picked up a flyer from one of the shops. But heard that the author of this book also conducts tour on certain days. Left Ipoh satisfied from soul to guts 😀😀

Dear 729irisl,
Thank you so much for making time and effort to share your thoughts about your time in Ipoh.
We are so heartened to learn that you heard about our relatively newly established "Trail of Dr. Sun Yat Sen and His Comrades in Ipoh", and that it was catalyst for your visit. Indeed, this story is perhaps the last unknown/lesser known frontier of Dr. Sun's history. The author, our founder does conduct walks, and it's running throughout March 2020, so we hope you'll help us to share forward. This trail is her 9-year long dream to build an infrastructure that promotes equitable growth in responsible tourism, enabling businesses to create new products and services based off it, and link Ipoh to world history.
We look forward to your visit to Ipoh again!
Warm regards!

My mum was born in Ipoh and I never really knew much that much about the city, it's history and it's significance.
We went on a fascinating walking tour, following the Sue Meng Heritage trail and the various plaques that have been put on view in the most interesting of places.
The stories Sue Meng told us about the close links with Sun Yat Sen and the wealthy Chinese tin mining community who helped with finance support for the cause, really brought to life what it must have been like at that important time in history. The narrow, gentrified Concubine Lanes are a must to feel the nostalgia of yesteryear. The architecture remains largely the same, but the stories of what went on are quite remarkable.... you might blush after hearing them ;)
Ipoh, I had heard, is famous for food. And OMG, it certainly has yum all over town. Fat juicy beansprouts (I'd say more cute and chubby) and chicken is a must, as is the famous Creme Caramel which seems extra creamy, especially when accompanied with a cup of Ipoh White Coffee. Don't forget the Ipoh's assam laksa (with the juicy, chubby beansprouts again) and the famous salted baked chicken (available to take home too). Wash down with Snow Beer or a myriad of mouthwatering, freshly squeezed fruit juices.
In the evening, we went to savour some of the nightlife. It's a very chilled place, and Ipoh has a number of hip speak easy's and outdoor spots to reminisce on the days exploits.
It strikes me as a bohemian kind of town... A great place to be able to wile away the time, relax, gather your thoughts and appreciate the finer things in life: great company, a sense that time passes gleefully slowly, a proud dining culture with a very friendly price tag. Somewhere I could see myself visiting a lot more frequently....
