Trip got cancelled the night before the Trip. I booked 3 weeks in advance. Not recommended. You can find another, better Guide.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the cancellation due to the insufficient number of participants as well as the increased prices of guides and transportation during China's National Day holiday. We have been working hard to resume group tours, but with the ongoing situation, it has been challenging to gather enough participants. Additionally, the cost of individual tours with a private guide and vehicle can be more than double the cost of group tours, which is why it was not recommended to you. We are so sorry for any inconvenience caused and hope to have the opportunity to serve you in the future.

We loved the whole trip with our great German speaking guide Julia. Just the three off us wandering through the fields and enjoying the magnificent scenery. Another highlight was the lunch prepared for us by a local farmer family, very friendly people and delicious food prepared from fresh ingredients. Overall, a great day out.

Dear Dirk, so glad to have your feedback. You may not know, this farmer restaurant was found occasionally by Julia, then she recommended to us. So far, we get zero complaint for lunch food. Our customers like those dishes so much.

During harvesting and photos taken from cable car. We wish we could help up with the farmers but it was raining. During harvest now, it resemble gold field. I would expect the growing will be all green which is a different beauty altogether.

We are so glad the the rainy day didm't affect your great mood for the tour! The Terraced field has the most beautiful views in spring and autumn. It all turns green and golden with a magnificent view in these two seasons. Hope for your next trip to Guilin to see the growing field!

Journée entière avec un groupe de 5 personnes accompagné de notre superbe guide Sharon. Les paysages sont magnifiques (nous y étions mi-septembre = avant la récolte du riz). Pas trop de monde et nous étions au plus près des locaux grâce à notre guide (Sharon) qui connait très bien le lieux ainsi que ses habitants.

We were lucky, in addition to us there was only one more person with us on the tour, which made the tour even more enjoyable. First it seemed as if the weather would spoil the tour for us. But our guide Lily had a good instict or experience regarding the schedule of the tour. So we were able to have some fog-free views on the terraces between the rainy sections what made the experience even a little mystical. We also liked the look into a typical house and how they made paint out of leaves. And last but not least the great lunch we had, definitely one of the best we had during our complete journey. So this tour was an absolute highlight on our journey, 100 percent recommendation.
I only want to add that the described schedule on this website is more like a rough idea of the tour, which isn´t a problem. More important for me is to have a great experience with a guide that can react on the given circumstances. And that was absolutely given.

We absolutely loved our tour the the rice terraces and the local villages. We went on May 1 which is the first day of the planting festival so there was lots of activity with the locals getting the fields ready for planting. Despite being a long weekend it was not too busy.
There is a fair bit of walking, but all of us including our 2 kids (6 and 8) really enjoying walking through the fields, trees and villages.
Yang was a very friendly and knowledgeable guide.

Our group consisted of four people, including ourselves. Therefore there was plenty of time to enjoy the company of our companions and to hear from our engaging and informative guide, Yang. The lunch in the village and the views across the terraces with the mist lifting were particularly memorable.

The breathtaking views we saw as we hiked the rice terraces from Zhuang Village to Ping’an Village was worth every step. It was drizzling but it wasn’t a problem as we were dressed appropriately. The clouds added to the tranquility and mystique of the place. We had lunch at a local home which was delicious and the best meal on our trip. The hostess was very hospitable and briefed us on how the rice wine was prepared.
Our group of 4 was guided by an English speaking guide, Yang, who is a cheerful, passionate and helpful guide. She accompanied us to the train station in Guilin to help us change our train ticket for an earlier train to Guangzhou. I highly recommend going for this tour with Yang as your guide.

I am so glad I decided to visit Guilin during my trip to China. This tour to the rice terraces was one of the highlights of my trip. Since it was the low season, I ended up the only person on my tour. I chose Trippest over cheaper operators for all my China tours because I guessed that the guides would be consistently good, and I wasn't disappointed - Lily was a fantastic guide, knowledgeable and fun. It was an absolutely beautiful day to walk through the rice terraces, which were flooded with water and glistening in the sun. The stop at a family home for lunch was hands down the best meal I ate in China and it featured bamboo rice, local bacon, a delicious puffed rice dish, and rice wine made right there in the home. All the guides say that late November/early December isn't a good time to visit the terraces, but I couldn't disagree more. Perfect weather, picturesque terraces, and hardly any other tourists.

I went on the day tour in early January, the weather was not the best but I still go to see a lot! I was the only person on the tour, with the guide Mr Chasen and our driver. The view from the drive there and once we were up in the village were breathtaking. It was very quiet because off-season but I loved it. We ran into villagers who were preparing for a wedding and walked with them for a bit. We stopped for food in the village and the meal was delicious. My guide Mr Chasen was knowledgeable, his english was really good, and he knew the region well. I would highly recommend this day tour if you are in the area!

This tour can not be done on Fridays? I'll be available only on September 13th to join this tour and would like so much to do it.
How likely is it I'd be able to make a train at 18:00 at Guilin North if I took this tour?

We booked a sleeper for after 7 and barely made that. I would recommend not travelling until later on as it is a long journey to and from the Rice Terraces.

How difficult/steep is the hike?

I am a hillwalker so it was no trouble for me. However the trek appeared to me to last around at least an hour in total. It was on paths with flattish stones. There was one short steep section but if you took your time then no problem. Anyone who is reasonably fit shouldn't have a problem and OK for trainers.

Hi! We are 2 people and we want to take the tour on Tuesday leaving from Yangzhou but we want to end the day dropping us off at the airport. Is that possible?
We also want to ask, what happens if it is raining? We want to do the whole tour anyway.

It was raining and we walked in the rain with umbrellas. It was wet but so beautiful and a unique experience. The clouds over the terrace were mystical! There was a private driver, so it seems very likely that you could arrange an airport drop off, but I would call or check when the tour starts.

Valentina, I recommend you contact the tour company. I asked to be dropped at the airport after the tour, and the driver was happy to do it for an additional charge after everyone else was dropped off. However, I was starting from Guilin - it might be different if you are starting from Yangzhou or if you are pressed for time.
