Family of five (ages 6, 12, 14, 39,40). All of us had a good time and got to work at our own pace and own skill level. The youngest did the pre-made batiks in which he just colored in the wax lines with the dye. The teenagers made tote bags and were given just enough instruction so they felt ready to create, but not treated like a kid. I made a silk scarf. I used a basic design, but was able to add my own things too with the wax.
In summary, it is a great family activity because you can differentiate based on age and skill level. It is relaxing, fun, and you get to take home a cool keepsake when you're done.

For a truly unique and special memory of Kuala Lumpur, you must visit Jadi Batek and create your own batik masterpiece. After a brief history of the art, and some instruction, you are guided through the different steps of batik and at the end, you have your own beautiful wearable memory. Your teacher is there to answer your questions, correct any mistakes and make sure your art is as beautiful as possible. For planning purposes, give yourself three or four hours, enough to make the scarf and time to wander around the batik gallery and do some shopping. As well, your creation will need finishing ( boiling away the wax, fixing the dye) and finishing the rough edges) (a charge of about $3, which might require two days. When you return home, you will have a lovely scarf or handkerchief to remind you of your lovely holiday.

This is a very special place, as every scarf hand painted is unique - every single scarf is different - my wife purchased a silk scarf and the artist was on the premises so we had our picture taken with him
