When we arrived at the desk there was some confusion over the online tickets I had bought. I was told I needed to get new tickets (cash only)?? Tour itself was okay but with a little wind there were only a few fireflies.

Long drive to see very little. Waste of time and money. Fireflies are stable and in the bushes. Yes, you do see the light. Almost nonexistent blue algae. We were given nets on a stick to stir the water and generate minute specs of color. Paid extra ten dollars each to see “blue” tiers.. lol.

The tour was great, we got time inside the Sri Shakti Temple (I was only expecting a photo stop), visit Melawati Hill and see the views and monkeys, buy our own dinner (because we didn't like the set seafood dinner tours), boat ride and fireflies.
As with all things nature, its a bit of luck on whether you interact with monkeys and see fireflies. The success for our tour really comes down our driver and guide LG. It was raining in KL, it was a Saturday, traffic was bad meaning timing was tight, but we still got to through the itinerary, we didn't feel rushed, LG gave just the right amount of commentary, got us up Melawati Hill, and liaised with the boat company to get us sorted on the busy jetty. A very safe pair of hands.
Re: the fireflies, there is a number of reviews that question whether its worth the tour. IMHO, sure they are like low wattage xmas lights, I'd recommend doing it if you haven't seen them before and because its an experience in a new country on top of the temple, hill, monkeys, commentary and boat ride.

Unser Tour Guide Patrick war super nett und hat sich viel Zeit für und genommen. Für ihn gibts fünf Sterne! Er hat viel über Malaysia‘s Kultur und Geschichte gewusst. Vor allem aber hat er uns Einblicke in das alltägliche Leben in Malaysia gegeben. Die Bootstour auf dem Fluss war ebenfalls interessant, aber machte leider etwas den Eindruck einer Massenabfertigung.

Do not do this.
We were forced to step in the boat when is was not yet dark.
So no fireflies. But in stead of waiting they returned to pick up next tourists
Disappointing. Especially for kids.

Publicité mensongère, nous avons vu aucune lucioles dans l’eau apparemment il faut un appareil à photo spécial pour pouvoir voir, cependant ce n’est pas mentionné. Je vous recommande pas cette activité, de plus nous voyons pas beaucoup de lucioles dans les arbres.
Cependant le guide/taxi qui était avec nous était au top 👌🏼 très aimable et avenant, ainsi que les singes c’était très sympa à voir!
Bref passez votre chemin sauf si vous voulez perdre de l’argent pour rien.

Hi 76manelg, Thank you for your feedback for the tour. Fireflies at Kuala Selangor are found at the mangrove trees along the riverbank, will be blinking like Christmas tree in mangrove area. Fireflies can't be found on the water as per your feedback. Hope this clarifies.

We were too early for a good view of the fireflies and we paid extra to do the blue tears also but disappointed as the water was very coffee coloured and very little phosphorus

The tour was better than expected. Our tour guide picked us up from our accommodation and was very knowledgeable pointing out things of interest along the way. First stop was the Hindu temple and it was quite amazing. We were told the history of the temple and all about its construction.
Second stop was the monkeys. Wasn’t expecting this part and it was absolutely amazing!
The third and final stop was the fireflies tour itself. If you forget to take insect repellant, don’t panic, you can get it there for 5 MYR.
It was about an hours boat ride out and back and the fireflies are pretty spectacular, especially once it gets darker.
We had a great time on this tour and it’s been one of the highlights of our trip.
I’d highly recommend doing this if you’re in Malaysia!

The excursion was “Okay”- would not recommend if you have limited time in the country/ as a main plan. The fireflies view was underwhelming. The highlight of the trip was the silverback monkeys. My Son really enjoyed that (9). This would be a nice experience as just something to do on a chill day.
