Found Abdul’s number on trip advisor and messaged him on WhatsApp, originally planned to try to visit the Gomantong Caves, but he informed us it was quite far so we instead asked if the Firefly Cruise was available and he was able to book it for us on exactly the day we needed.
Picked us up from our hotel, we had tea and cakes before the cruise where we managed to see some probiscis monkeys, macaques and a 2m crocodile only a few metres from our boat which was incredible! We stopped on a small beach for sunset and we’re shown a group of hermit crabs which was very cool - all these extra animals were an added bonus we didn’t expect.
Then as it got dark we saw the fireflies, we must’ve seen at least 4 trees full of them, and they were amazing to see. Another bonus - we managed to see some glowing plankton in the water next to our boat.
We then returned to the dock and ate a delicious curry, home cooked by one of the local people in the village next to the river.
Abdul was so lovely and everyone else who came on the tour were too, Abdul even arranged for our airport transfer the next day! A pleasure to meet him and nice to take a trip that was more locally run, rather than through a bigger company.

Wonderful experience that we can explore the fireflies, and crocodiles. we cruise in the night to find the beautiful fireflies and also we have found a 1.5meters crocodiles. Also the island area that we take a rest has also a good view. Dinner is delicious and staff is patient, introducing us information about animals, plants.

The tour guide did not show up! Viator have refunded us so no issue with them, but do not book this tour. If you want to do it, all of the grab drivers seem to know people who do a similar tour and you can pay in person when they show up. We sadly couldn’t do this because we waited for too long for the guide to show up and then all the other tours had already departed. A real shame!

Thanks for the tour and the ride. We had a lovely afternoon and evening. During the boat trip to the Firefly it rained heavily and so we could not see them. However, the operator decided to drive out a second time after dinner and there we could see them. This was a niceness I really appreciate.

Dowiedzieliśmy się o tym miejscu od naszego kierowcy Mr. Azrien (+6013-7979018) gorąco polecam, był bardzo uprzejmy i pomocny w zorganizowaniu dnia.
Firefly Cruise:
Zostaliśmy przywitani pączkiem i herbatką po czym popłynęliśmy łodzią, podczas wyprawy przewodnik pokazywał różne zwierzęta: małpy, młode krokodyle... Po zmroku oglądaliśmy świetliki, wyprawa zakończona została smacznym obiadem.
Firefly Cruise:
Zostaliśmy przywitani pączkiem i herbatką po czym popłynęliśmy łodzią, podczas wyprawy przewodnik pokazywał różne zwierzęta: małpy, młode krokodyle... Po zmroku oglądaliśmy świetliki, wyprawa zakończona została smacznym obiadem.

We found out about this trip via our driver Mr. Azrien, he was honest and reliable, he didn't sugar coat any attraction and his suggestions were concrete.
We were greeted with tea and snack while waiting for the start of the journey, then we swam and observed the animals: mud skippers, crabs, monkeys and baby crocs. Then we waited until it was dark to see fireflies along the river. Trip ended with tasty dinner. It was quite the experience.

The cruise was great, there were many opportunities for photos and learning as our guide, Azrien was extremely knowledgeable and hospitable. He ensured that we got to see all the best sites and made the entire journey very comfortable, going out of his way to ensure our safety multiple times. The food was great with a nice array of local dishes, the quality was great and the trip was a memorable one for sure.

This tour was well worth it. Our driver, Jafar, was very friendly and his daughter was the tour guide and was great with lots of knowledge about the wildlife and local area (think her name was Ivy). The tea in the local town was nice and included snacks. The cruise was really good, we saw probascis monkey and long tail macaque on the way to an island to watch the sunset then on the way back saw fireflies and a baby crocodile. The fireflies were amazing and apparently are even better on darker nights (the moon was quite bright when we went). It was also really nice to see the stars on such a clear night on the river. The local food after the cruise was amazing and there was so much of it we couldn't eat it all.

This is an interesting tour.
You get to see genuine local village and houses, a cruise through the mangroves where you can see various wildlife including monkeys. After dark you do get to see the fireflies. We did not see many as the moon was full so not as dark as it can get. It was still a good experience. You then have a meal in the village which is reasonable quality, the villagers are very friendly and helpful.
Would recommend.
