As the children were not at school due to a public holiday ,we had great company 👍. It was a real pleasure to meet with the people. We were made very welcome and had a great time. We have been with this company in Mumbai, they put a lot of the excursion money back into the community. What a great company.

I am so glad that I decided to do this tour. Hema was a wonderful, enthusiastic, knowledgable tour guide. She made me feel at ease and was a great host. I felt privileged to see the slum and felt the tour was inclusive, respectful and ethical. Thank you :)

With Reality Travels & Tours I did a Slumtour and it was incredible. Kavita is such a sweet english speaking guide, it made the experience very valuable. She picked me up from the metro station in the city centre, showed me how the metro in Delhi works and took me to her neighborhood, named Ohkra. Here she showed us the real life: living, eating, drinking, housing, working, hygiene, education and religion. She told so many facts about life in the slums; incredible. You get a total different perspective of reality in the slums. People come to say hi, wave you and shake your hand. So friendy. In the office of Reality Travel, I met Aarti and got treated with Chai Tea: so good! After the tour I got a total different perspective of life and knew how to use the metro around the city - easy and convenient.

Rencontre inoubliable avec Hema, notre guide qui nous fait découvrir pendant 3 heures la vie dans le bidonville de la Colonie Sanjay. Elle nous a expliqué le quotidien de habitants de ce quartier qu'elle côtoie depuis son enfance, les difficultés, les progrès en terme d'hygiène, l'éducation. Nous avons pu visiter une fabrique, voir des femmes assise par terre pendant 10 heures par jour sous le soleil afin trier des milliers de petites chutes de tissu afin de recycler en nouveaux vêtements, ou autre... Nous avons visité les ruelles et découvert l'intimité des habitants, la récupération de l'eau, etc... Présentation tout en délicatesse et pudeur, mais avec beaucoup de joie, d'enthousiasme. Nous avons pu ressentir l'engagement de Réality Tours & Travel pour faire évoluer les choses petit à petit, former, et aider. Un exemple à encourager. 80% des recettes servent aux actions locales.
Nous étions seulement notre couple pour cette visite incroyable.

Consigliato dalla guida Lonely Planet, ho preso parte a questo tour. Prenotato la sera per la mattina seguente tramite email, il tuor è stato eccellente. Davvero interessante poter vedere anche un'altra realtà che non sia quella del centro città.. Sagar, la mia guida, è stato fenomenale, dandomi un sacco di informazioni interessanti. Consiglio davvero questo tuor durante un soggiorno a Delhi.

We were super happy with the tour of Sanjay colony. Our guide Shehnaz was so sweet and knowledgeable and she showed us around the slum and answered all of our questions. We felt completely safe during the entire tour and were met with smiles and curious looks by the people in the slum. Beautiful to see their sense of community and optimism despite of the obviously harsh living conditions. Would recommend to anyone visiting Delhi!

Taken into one of the poorest quarters of Delhi, guided by Chitti who gave me a real insight into how the people live in this 25-acre maze of a city within a city.
I felt very safe, and found the people very friendly and not at all pushy. They seemed to have real pride in their neighbourhood. We ended in a family home where we had lunch prepared for us, which was delicious.
As ever, it was great to do this trip with a group (Reality) who use their profits to educate the children in the slums of Delhi and Mumbai.

The thought of a tour through a slum in Delhi was very exciting to me particularly after reading the book Shantaram. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but it was a truly interesting insight into the colony and doubly valuable for the youth attempting to make a better life for themselves. We used Reality Gives to book our tour which was led by a young woman Hema who Grew up in a nearby slum. Hema was a most knowledgeable and inspiring guide who obviously loved her work. We travelled by metro with Hema to Sanjay colony and then headed to an area there where locals sorted material off cuts to on sell or use as stuffing and then to a printing business. We visited a local home, a doctors surgery, a temple and school, meandering through the rabbit warren of streets. The final stop is the Reality Gives headquarters in Delhi where Hema explained the positive impact of the organization through teaching local youth. You can also buy great gifts at the end which further assists in funding the organization. A must do tour, not only for a fascinating experience, but a great contribution to the local community. It was very affordable at about $23.00 Australian dollars. And yes, it’s safe. 🙏🏻

Like many reviewers, I was nervous about doing a slum colony tour, but the many glowing comments on TripAdvisor gave me confidence.
It was fantastic! If you're going to Delhi or Mumbai, this tour should be at the top of your list.
First, Kavita (and I'm sure all the guides) are great ambassadors to a world tourists rarely see. She grew up in the slums, and she is proud to introduce people to her neighborhood.
Second, the tour is done respectfully. (Note that photography is not allowed.) I felt like a stranger but not a voyeur; it was like walking through a neighborhood--people going on with their lives.
Although it was challenging and even overwhelming to be there at first, but soon I realized that, like people everywhere, the people of the slum are making the most of what they have, albeit under much more difficult and challenging circumstances. There are schools, small businesses, temples, a clinic, just like any other neighborhood.
This is a precious and unique opportunity, and Reality Gives does it well. Lay aside your hesitation and do not miss this tour. In preparation for this tour, I highly recommend reading "Beyond the Beautiful Forevers"--a book about life in the Mumbai slums by Katherine Boo.

I am wanting to do this morning tour and than go straight to another tour (by same company) meeting at connaught place but i am nervous to catch the train back to connaught place by myself from the Slum Colony. Will the guide help me buy a train ticket back to connaught place and help me get on the right train? I am a solo female traveller and it will be my first morning in Delhi by myself.

I also traveled alone when I took the slum tour, the metro is very easy to use.
Nothing to worry, the metro has a female only cart.
And the guide will tell you how to get back to connaught place.
If you don't want to take the metto you can always take Uber.

Im interested in the Tour with Lunch. How long is the entire tour including lunch? Do you have to find transport back to hotel from lunch house? With the 'Cooking Experience' Tour do you also see the slums for 3 hours or is it just a cooking class? Can you choose what you would like to make to eat? I have dietary requirements. Thank

We asked to reschedule the day before and that was no problem either. Got a prompt response too.
I'm planning a trip of 14 of us, I have read that there is a max of 6 per tour. Is there one tour at each time or is there multiple tours going in the morning/afternoon? Thanks in advance.

You can definitely do tours with larger groups of people. The group will be divided into a few smaller groups so that there will be a maximum of 6 people per guide.

So we will be staying at the Taj Palace Hotel, Diplomatic Enclave. How do we get to the start of the tour from the hotel, and how do we get back from the tour back to our hotel?

Take a taxi to Connaught Place. The metro entrances are all numbered around the circle with big blue signs. I believe you meet your guide at #1. Then you and your guide take the metro together to Sanjay. The Taj Palace will get you a taxi, and there are also taxis and auto rickshaws you can hire yourself just outside the main hotel gate :)

I see that this tour meets up at Departure Point Connaught Place, Rajiv Chowk Metro Station Gate 1. India is new so as much as I want to take this tour I am scared of getting lost traveling to the Metro station with all the scam I hear about Tuk Tuk driving taking you to another place Is it fairly easy to get there? Can my Hotel help me arrange this tour?

We had no issues at all travelling by tuk tuk, taxi, uber, and metro in New Delhi. if you are apprehensive about taking a tuk tuk, you could use uber or have your hotel assist you. The tour was a lot of fun!
