This was my favorite experience of the trip! Our guide Alberto was so knowledgeable about the process and you could tell he had a genuine love for his job and teaching others about Costa Rica's coffee and chocolate production. His excitement and education around coffee made us want to slow down the process and enjoy our morning routine around brewing our cup of coffee every day. If I come back to La Fortuna, no questions asked I would do this tour again.

It was a very informative tour. Lots of hands on, tasting, and smelling. Tour guide knew all about the processes, history, and precise information of both the chocolate and coffee industry. Highly recommend.

We had a great experience on this tour! David was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. It was a great experience to taste fresh coffee, chocolate, and sugar cane. Highly recommend for all ages!

A small, family owned farm that provides a wonderful overview of coffee ( cafe ), chocolate and even sugar Cain farming. Well laid out, easy walk and stops along the way. In the shadow of the Renal Volcano this family does a great job explaining the growing and production techniques of the three area. They grow and sell small batches as well.
Great for any age!
Along the way they roast, grind and then taste all three. VERY interesting to taste the education.

There are so many options for tours of a similar nature in Costa Rica, but this one did not disappoint! EXCELLENT tour with friendly/knowledgeable tour guides. You can tell when a tour is going to be good when every staff person on site looks happy to be there doing their job! The tour is informative (learned SO much about the process that goes in to growing/producing chocolate and coffee, and the information is presented in an engaging “easy to understand” manner with lots of visual explanations coupled with the guide’s verbal information presented from the beginning-end of this tour. Really engaging tour that school-aged children-elderly age groups would enjoy (not for very young children as they would not understand it and would be too long to hold their attention at a little over 2 hours). The section where you sit for some time while the guide teaches about how chocolate is produced with LOTS of samples given as each stage is presented…DELICIOUS chocolate and presented to each person individually throughout the presentation. When you end with the coffee presentation, another seated area is used with delicious samplings given along with the presentation…LOVED their cinnamon coffee tea so much that I bought some to take home to Boston! The walking portions of this tour are 100% doable, and the property is beautiful and even includes a nice view of the volcano from the chocolate tasting area! This is a tour you will surely love and is a nice change from other types of tours in Costa Rica…relaxing pace, personable guides, and AMAZING chocolate and coffee tastings!!

They picked us up at our hotel and we drove 10 mins to the coffee plantation. Tour was in English, Rosbi was our delightful guide. He had a gentle sense of humor, answered all our questions.
We spent 2 1/2 hrs learning about cacao, coffee, sugar cane and more. We tasted chocolates, coffees, and local sugar cane drinks. Everything was well organized, and a pleasure.
I highly recommend without reservation. Surpassed our expectations.
My only gentle suggestion for North Fields is that women be tour guides as well, instead of being the behind the scenes preparers of the items used for demonstrations.

The tour from start to finish was fantastic! David did an amazing job detailing the specifics of both the cocoa and coffee processes. He also had more information to share as we walked from location to location regarding the flora and fauna. He even stopped to show us a hummingbird nest with eggs. This is a must do in your trip to La Fortuna. Great gift shop too!

I drove myself, but I'd think it's only 15 minutes or so to the coffee tour. We were there from 9-12ish. A full morning. But, if you're driving, you could probably beg of at anytime if you needed because the whole tour is in the same place, which is right in town.
