We were able to watch the entire process of digging a nest and laying eggs and burying them. We followed her back to the sea late at night.

Isaacs recommendations for the tour and other travel was great. Thank you Isaac and Samara Tours.

The tour was pretty nice. We saw some turtles and we were able to follow up the whole process of egg laying.
Besides that the guide gave us a lot of details about turtles and the process of egg laying and hatching as well.
The insights were great!
Just be aware that the drive to the beach takes about one hour from Samara. So this travel time is included in the 3 hour tour time.
Anyway it was fun and I would definitely do it again!

The journey to the beach in the darkness was an invigorating lead up to walking the beach and searching for the turtles in their quest to lay their eggs. Our guide was very informative and we found two turtles in the act of laying their precious cargo. Well worth the experience.

We visited Camaronal Beach with guide Rodrigo in mid-January 2020. Although this is not peak time, he explained the risk we might not see one. As it turned out, he worked very hard and over 3 hours we saw volunteers releasing hatchlings, an olive ridley return to see, and then another mother come from the sea and the whole process. And predators stalking the eggs. Fantastic night, an experience to remember....

We seemed to be one day late on all of our excursions this trip to see any wildlife! Just drew the short straw I guess. We missed 2 turtles who had dug nests and already made it back to the ocean. Unfortunately, we couldn’t keep count of the number of raccoons that were waiting in the wings for their next meal. We saw the remnants of their destruction. Our guide (I’m so sorry, I’ve forgotten his name!) was so informative and a lovely fellow. It was a worthwhile evening and I would recommend.

We booked this tour and were picked up promptly at our hotel by our guide Mauricio. It was only about. 25 minute ride to the reserve from Samara.
Mauricio briefed us on what to expect and what not to expect as he had been there several days before and had no luck seeing a turtle with a tour.
We had a great night with no rain and a nice breeze. We were very lucky as Mauricio found us a turtle about 20 minutes after we arrived at the beach itself. The turtle had just dug its hole and we watched as it it lays its eggs and buried them. We were in awe. The turtle slowly made it to way back to the water and we followed it hypnotized! After she departed we walked the length of the beach and although we saw no other turtles, we did observe some volunteers scooping up eats that had been laid so they could be protected in the hatchery. We did see evidence of what happens to the eggs when raccoons dig up the nests.
We recommend shorts (it was hot and it's a long walk), bug spray (although it wasn't bad) and definitely closed toed shoes or runners as walking on the beach would be difficult in sandals or barefoot.
We couldn't be happier with the tour and Mauricio was outstanding as he explained everything and answered all our questions. Highly recommended!!!!

All three adventures were amazing. We got to see a turtle dig a hole, lay her eggs, bury them and then walk back to the sea - under the stars!
Sámara trails was a great hike including an stunning view of the whole bay. We listened to howler monkeys for much of the hike and then finally saw them at the end.
The dolphins took a while to find but it was well worth the wait. It was really cool to see them swimming and playing in their natural environment.
Ricardo was our guide for both the turtles and the dolphins and he was great. His love of life is truly amazing!!

We had a fabulous experience seeing an Olive Ridley laying eggs. Mauricio let us know that we went at the very beginning of nesting season and it might take a few hours to see a turtle, if we saw one at all. He found a nest right away and was very careful not to disturb the turtle but allowed us to see what was going on. The experience was very moving.

Around end January / February 2019 I will be visiting Ostional. At the moment I have not booked anything yet, so I am still flexible in dates. I know it is not the turtle season, but is there a higher chance of spotting nestings just before the new moon? There seems to be mixed info on the internet on this topic.
What would be the ideal date (estimation ofcourse) to spot turtles in February? I will book my holiday around this to assure I am there at Samara / Ostional. Many thanks in advance for your reply.
