Relax Day Tours was an exceptional experience for us. We were in a group of 6, and saw so much more wildlife than what was reported by the folks who took the cruise ship sponsored tours. Jorge was our guide, and he was amazing. Gabriel was our driver and he also did an outstanding job, pointing out wildlife on the canal portion of the tour that was absolutely amazing!
There was a strike blocking the road to Veragua Rainforest, so Jorge asked if we wanted to wait to see if the road would clear, or if we wanted to go to Cahuita National Rainforest instead. We decided on the second option, and that place was truly magical! We were able to hike through the rainforest, stop at a beautiful beach, and have lunch at the park's restaurant (which was excellent!).
Jorge also stopped at a local market where we could taste fresh bananas, drink freshly brewed Costa Rican coffee (which was less expensive than what they were selling at the port), and then purchase whatever souvenirs we wanted. The people working at the market were lovely, and so appreciative of us taking the time to stop by.
I fell in love with Costa Rica, and can't wait to go back for an extended vacation to that beautiful country with its amazing people! Thanks to Relax Day Tours for a wonderful day! Pure Vida!

We did this as a shore excursion from our cruise ship. The drive to Veragua was long and, for a significant portion, bumpy and uncomfortable. The tour guide on the bus gave very little information about Costa Rica or the neighborhoods and areas we drove through on the way to the rainforest. The rainforest was beautiful, especially from the aerial tram, and the guides were very informative. Only saw frogs, snakes and birds…no larger animals.
The Tortuguero Canal portion was disappointing. This is a man made canal near the port. The water was dirty and smelled. We did see some birds, a cayman and sloth but overall, we could have skipped this portion of the tour.

Hello, we have checked our guest list and could not find a customer with your name and region. You wrote that you did a shore excursion from your cruise ship, but we are an independent tour operator - the cruise lines are our competitors. In March 2024 (your review says this was your travel date), we only used vans and smaller vehicles to go to Veragua, as our groups were quite small. We have not used a bus as you mention, that's what the cruise lines do. The boats in your pictures are not ours either (our boats are smaller and called "Relax"). If you don't mind, feel free to contact us with your booking information and we can try to point you to the correct company. Also, please make sure to post your review to the right page. Sadly, this is not the first time that someone posts to our page to complain about another company. Best regards.

This is simply a taste or beginner’s guide to this part of the world. If you have that expectation, then it will meet expectations. It’s about a 5 km dirt road drive once you leave the paved street to get there. The fee for our approximate three hour tour was US$75; that’s over and above what you might pay for any transportation or tour to get there but that was disclosed ahead of time. No lines.
Wear bug spray & if you are especially prone to mosquito bites (as I am), here’s a tip you won’t find in any medical books: Take a B12 shot within a week of going. I did both those and got no bites!
There was so much diversity in biosphere that our guide, Paula, shared with us. She was so passionate, cheerful and genuinely loved what she was doing!

As you note, this tour covers a section of the Caribbean region of Costa Rica and it's designed to accommodate cruise ship passengers such as you. There is definitely so much more to see of our country that can't be covered in such a limited time frame. Hi guides, our trip to Veragua Rainforst on 02/06/2024 was breathtaking.
The nature was overhelming.
I've never been in a rainforest before.
Unfortunatley it was raining a long time, but that doesn't matter.
(recomondation take your raincaot with you)
We had a young and friendly touristguide called Niki.
She had a huge knowledge of all important facts and explained us a lot.
If you aren't a native speaker you could understand her English very well.
Our bus driver was also very freindly. We went by an 8 places bus .
At the end of our trip we made a boats tour.
Absolutly recommendable.
The nature was overhelming.

The whole experience was fantastic from start to finish.
We were picked up outside of the port and driven to Veragua. We stopped on the way because the driver found a sloth that we were able to get out and see. we also so a snake in the road on the way up to the nature preserve. Our guide there was fantastic and we learned so much. The aerial tram was beautiful.
After wards we were driven to the Tortuguero canals where we saw a Boa, sloths, iguanas, monkeys. During the drive time Maria was giving us great conservation information and about Costa Rica in general. She provided bananas, bottled water, and mango juice. But please bring snacks and food with you! There is no break or stops that have food so from 9am -5pm you will be without a meal.
This excursion is worth doing and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Limon.

However, it's much harder for us to control the quality of the guides employed at Veragua Rainforest (they are an external company to Relax Day Tours). Our experience was so so. We didn’t see much wildlife - no monkeys or sloths in the Rainforest and it is insanely expensive to enter. Our tour guide also did not speak English very well so it was very difficult to understand. On the tortugero canal there were some sloths and birds but way up in the trees so difficult to view. The boat ride was somewhat pleasant but there were houses knocked down recently that were inhabited by “narcos.” I overhead the guides speaking in Spanish. I’m not sure if the area is very safe. Also, there was a person in a boat intentionally creating a wake and zooming up and down the canal. I probably wouldn’t go ever again and really don’t recommend the tour. Spend your time in Manuel Antonio and you can hike on your own and see tons of wildlife and amazing beaches up close!

We are sorry to read that your experience was "so so". Veragua Rainforest is a private reserve, and as you experienced yourself, you pay the entrance fee, not us, and you really can't expect much wildlife in a reserve with concrete trails, an aerial tram and exhibits. In Veragua, you can also request a better guide than the one they give you. Juan Carlos was your guide for the rest of the tour (except Veragua), and he does speak very good English. We also assigned you our star driver Erick, who was able to find some animals on the side of the road, but he told me that you didn't want to see them, he found two 2-toed sloths close enough to take a selfie, but you didn't want to get out of the vehicle. You could also find monkeys. So when you have the chance, in nature you have to take the chance, this is not a zoo where the animals are locked up. And you are right, in Manuel Antonio National Park there are many animals, what you forgot to mention is that this park is on the other side of Costa Rica, on the Pacific coast, it is not in the Caribbean of the country where you were at this moment, your cruise ship arrived in Puerto Limon, Caribbean of Costa Rica. Good tour guide, took us around 1 hour to arrive in the park. He got us some water and juice as promised. Happy guy all around and explains alot about the country.

Booked this through Norwegian Cruise. If your lucky enough to get Michael as your bus tour guide, then good for you. The road there is a bit rough, but the bus smooths out the ride. Torguguero canals was good as we saw about 5 sloths within 100 yards. The reason for 3 stars is because Veragua Rainforest was overbooked their park on the day we visited. What should have taken 2-3 hours, took 5 and made us cut our Tortuguero canals excursion short, which was great even for the shorter time. We arrived back to our ship about 90 minutes late, but since it was booked through the ship, they really had to wait for us. So late arriving back at our ship that they had the bus pull all the way up on the dock, right next to the gangway. People on our cruise looking down from the ship actually cheered as we exited the bus because they knew the ship could finally leave for the next port.

Sorry gentleman, you have posted your review on the wrong company, you did not travel with us. We are Relax Day Tours, a small local tour company based in Puerto Limon, and we do not sell our tours through any cruise line nor do we have contracts with any cruise lines, which includes Norwegian Cruise.
We only sell through TripAdvisor, Viator or our own site by our own means. Also, no cruise ship is going to wait for us if we make the big mistake of arriving late, which we are extremely careful not to do.
We do not enter right next to the gangway from the cruise ship, our guests meet us outside the port near the public street, and we say goodbye to them there too (on time).
We are sorry for your bad experience, but in this case please complain to Norwegian Cruise. If you want a much better tour experience, we recommend that you book with us next time instead of taking the cruise line's big bus.

Federico und sein Guide „Joani“ waren der Wahnsinn. Die Fähigkeiten von Joani Tiere zu finden, gepaart mit dem Wissen von Federico, haben die Tour zu einem wahren Erlebnis gemacht. Zudem wurde man zu keinem Zeitpunkt gehetzt und es wurde auf jede Frage eingegangen. Rundum einer der besten Ausflüge die wir bisher gemacht haben. Chapeau und weiter so. Wir empfehlen den Ausflug zu 100% weiter!

On December 18th, 2019 we will be docking at Puerto Limon at 7:30a.m. (Holland America Eurodam) . We are 2 adults and interested in doing this excursion. Is the pick-up right at the cruise port? What time does it start and what time would it get us back to the ship (as we've read instances where people almost missed their ship getting back)? Thank you.

Hello, yes we offer pick-up at the entrance of the cruise ship terminal, which is located 150 meters or 160 yards from your ship, so you'd have to walk around 1 - 2 minutes to meet us. We also leave you there at the end of the tour. We usually begin this tour at 7:45 - 8:10 AM and return at 2:30 - 3:00 PM. One of our priorities is to get you back to your ship with plenty of time, and we have never failed to do so. Please keep in mind that for this tour, the Veragua Rainforest entrance fee is not included. Thank you.

The only fees are the excursion fee (booking, currently $75) and the Veragua admission fee ($72 for adults). There are no other fees. Round-trip transportation, Tortuguero Canals ride, beverages and scenic viewpoint are already included. Thank you for your question.
