The Greenway Tour van was easy to locate after an easy walk from the ship at the Puntarenas port. Our tour guide, Ronald, was very knowledgeable about the local wildlife, fauna and Costa Rican history. He walked us through the rainforest and the swing bridges to point out the various animals and plant life in the area. Included in the tour was an hour long Jungle Crocodile Safari boat ride on the Tarcoles River to look for crocodiles, birds, iguanas, and other wildlife specific to Costa Rica. We took a break to have some tropical fruits in a lovely village and was given time to have lunch and souvenir shop at El Jardin. I felt it was money well spent for the 7-8 hour excursion which was less expensive than taking the ship’s excursion. Ronald also gave each person a little snack box filled with a water, juice, cookies and candies.

Awesome crocodiles

Our day in Costa Rica with Greenway was nothing short of amazing. We spent the morning on a short trek exploring the rain forest and the hanging bridges, we didn’t see many animals or birds but did see a dart frog. After we went to the Tarcoles River to see the crocodiles which were awesome. Unfortunately the heavy rain meant the tour of puntarenas was cancelled

Nice hike, nice river cruise

Very tour. Nice hike, nice river trip. One thing they don't tell you is the 50 minute stop at the souvenir store/complex. Nice place but not sure I needed that stop.

Excellent experience (but longer than expected)

The activities were very enjoyable and our guide and driver were excellent. I would like to rate this tour as excellent, but I expected to return to the ship at 1:00pm as stated on the website, but we actually arrived about 4:00pm. While the 40 minutes delay getting started on the river portion of the tour was not Greenway's fault, even without that delay I still would have returned at least two hours later than I had expected. (Friends on board were a bit worried about me since I didn't meet them for lunch as expected.)

However... I really enjoyed the hike and hanging bridges. The resort where it is based was lovely, and we had a wonderful break there with fruit and water before heading to the river portion of the excursion. We saw several crocodiles on the river and the bird-watching was very good.

The bus/van was comfortable with good A/C and free internet. As I said before, our driver Charlie and guide Arial were both excellent... friendly, informative, helpful.

In Love with Costa Rica

This was a great excursion for our stop in Puntarenas. Both Ronald, our tour guide, and Albert, our driver were very caring as they worked to ensure we had a great time. Ronald was very informative sharing about Costa Rica's past and current state. It made us want to return for a longer stay in Costa Rica. Albert is a gifted driver navigating the roads so well. It was a good value and we would do it again! Thank you!

Be weary of of this tour if you under a time constraints

8 friends went on this tour with a guide "Ronald" or Rona . We started our trip late waiting on one couple, tour guide asked if we minded waiting, then left even with protest. Then some of group was Late for zip lining and had to join a larger group which made them late to pick us up. Then the crocodile tour which should be called a bird tour with a chance of seeing crocodiles. Then the guide wanted stop at tourist trap for food and souvenirs. He first asked hour long we want, some ask for 30 minutes, the guide said 45 to 50 minutes. We ended up being 2 1/2 hours late coming back. Our third trip to Costa Rica, worst tour ever taken.

We are so sorry about this negative review about our services. Unfortunately, if you were under a time constraints, you should book a private tour. In our terms and conditions, we have listed that our company will wait maximum 15 minutes in case a customer is late, and this is what our guide did exactly. On a cruise ship operation, many unpredictable factors can be involved in our operation. On a shared tour as the one you book; we can have a mix of people with may differently circumstances. Young and fit people probably as you, children, seniors, customers with mobility issues or medical conditions. Sometimes the gangway for exit the ship can be so crowed and this can cause a little delay to some passengers. Or the walking speed is not the same for young passengers against seniors. All this can cause delays. On this date, our guide waited 15 minutes for a senior couple. Unfortunately, this makes you angry and you didn´t show any empathy with them and the situation. From all the group, you were the only that Protest as you said. All the rest of the group didn´t mind to wait for just few minutes. Besides this, during the tour development, a passenger had a medical decompensation and this also required treatment and obviously caused a delay in the tour operation. Fortunately, it was nothing serious, but it did deserve the respective evaluation. In Costa Rica it is summer time, and the strong sun can generate these types of situations in older adults. Unfortunately, in this situation you also did not have any level of empathy towards the affected passenger, and it seems that you were only worried about your limited time to take the tour. In relation to the boat tour, you visited a natural habitat where wild species may or may not be present at the time of the visit. It is a natural ecosystem, not a zoo. According to the evaluations of the more than 100 people who took the tour this day, they enjoyed it very much. Unfortunately, you didn't like this part of the tour either. Regarding the visit to the restaurant and souvenir, this is not a visit to a tourist trap as you mention. It is a courtesy stop so that customers have the opportunity to visit one of the best and most beautiful souvenirs in the area and enjoy a beer, a soft drink or eat a sandwich. Also for the use of restrooms, which many clients were requesting. The time here was 30-40 minutes, but equally for you everything was chaos and more delays, not being empathetic with the other passengers who did want to enjoy this stop included in the tour and that you did not enjoy either. What a shame that your third visit to Costa Rica was as terrible as you indicate. The funny thing is that the other 90 passengers we had on the tour really enjoyed their experience, getting to know a little bit about Costa Rica, the excellent information from our guide Ronald and the good quality of services from our company with 24 years of offering quality tours. Perhaps our best recommendation is that if you do not want a minute delay and travel with other passengers who may cause delays in the tour, make reservations for private tours, more expensive yes, but this way no one will bother you and affect your valuable time.

Tarcoles Eco-Cruise was fantastic.

Very nice shore excursion to see the towns and rivers around Puntarenas, Costa Rica. The river cruise was really nice and we were able to see birds and alligators. The facility was very clean and had lots of souvenirs to buy.

A fabulous day in Costa Rica!

I did loads of research for our cruise stop in Costa Rica and eventually chose this tour - it was excellent! Communication was good beforehand and they were waiting for us as we disembarked the ship. Our guide Ronald was wonderful - very knowledgeable and friendly and gave us a great overview of Costa Rica as we drove to Carara national park. The minibus was very comfortable and the air con was fabulous as it was hot!! The walk through the rainforest was fascinating and Ronald took time to stop and explain lots of things along the way to enhance our experience. The bridges do provide a great view of the forest. We really enjoyed our fruit snack stop; the hotel has beautiful gardens to wander through and an amazing open sided church which is worth visiting.
The Tarcoles river cruise was one of the highlights of our entire 3 week holiday. We saw a number of crocodiles including getting up close and personal to a particularly big one who was so relaxed that the guide lifted his tail and we were able to briefly touch it! The bird life is simply stunning. The driver cut the engine at one point and the guide told us to close our eyes and just listen - it was magical. The driver was brilliant at spotting the wildlife as we went along the river and the guide was highly informative in explaining what we were seeing.
On the way back to Puntarenas, Ronald did a brief detour so we could see some macaws and we were able to watch them squawk and fight for a few minutes. The souvenir shop has every conceivable Costa Rican souvenir you can think of plus some amazing watermelon juice to drink while you’re looking.
Ronald even managed to fit in a whistlestop tour of Puntarenas before we returned to the ship. Overall, it was an amazing day which gave us a flavour of this beautiful country and I would highly recommend both this tour company and the actual tour.

Safety big issue

Lost in Rainforest....beware! We took this tour with the Skywalk and Tarcoles Crocodile Tour. We were about 25 min. late getting started. It appeared they were waiting for guests, but holding 29 people waiting for 2 that never showed seemed excessive. Our head tour guide was informative and bus driver well qualified but that was the good points. Everyone was confused when we took a side trip to drop 4 people off for a trailer ride. Next we were dropped off at trail head. This was cruise ship passengers packed full of 60-90 year olds. After a few minutes of information shared with the group along the trail we were encouraged to rapido...rapido. We crossed 2....not 3 bridges and went back to the bus. It was beautiful and exciting! Most of the passengers, both tour guides and the bus driver were at the bus. Soon the main tour guide tells us we had person needing help on the trail and he sent the other guide back. After about 10 min. he gets a call from number 2 that he needed more help. Another 10 min. and an elderly passenger returned apologizing to all of us. The guides had no water, first aid kit, or cool rags. The man was clearly suffering from heat exhaustion. Number 2 guide starts to count passengers and realizes we are still missing 3 people. He gets sent back out, since they hadn't walked "rapido" they got separated and took 2 wrong turns....they were found and walked back with no problems, while the rest of us waited....total now 45 min on the bus waiting for everyone. Why wasn't there a guide at the back of the group!!!! We are all worried about getting back to the ship in time. The guide made jokes about it several times but still took time to stop at an overpriced gift shop for 40 min. where the staff ate a free lunch at the buffet. The rest of us looked around for a few min. grabbed a snack and stood and waited because the bus was locked. We did make it for the free fruit stop and the crocodile tour which was all nice. I liked the tour, but safety was a big issue...beware!
