I planned on doing the tour on short notice and the team around Oldemar (one of the few tour companies that has offers for solo-travelers) replied swiftly and worked on my booking. However, my plans changed and even then I was met with understanding and excellent customer service. Thank you again for your understanding!

Juan was our guide and was very personable and knowledgeable. First we visited the Sloth Rescue, but in fact there are many different species there. They really depend on visitors to help raise the money for the animals' care, some of which have been rescued after being hit by cars, electrocuted on power lines, or from irresponsible people who kept them as pets until they became unmanageable. They try to rehabilitate and return to the wild the ones they can. For the others, they have found their forever homes. It's a bit sad, but it's really important work, so I was glad to support them.
After that, we visited with the Chief of an indigenous tribe called Huetar. There are very few of this tribe left and they are trying to maintain their traditions as best they can in a very different world. Juan was our interpreter, as the Chief doesn't speak English. It was interesting to hear about their beliefs and traditions, even though there are some that we don't agree with in our modern world. But we respected each other's position, and it was a great reminder that if you listen with an open mind, you can at least agree to disagree.
The only reason I'm not giving this excursion 5 stars is that since it was a 7 am pickup, we had breakfast at 6 and didn't arrive back at our hotel until 1:30, then had to go find a place to have lunch. It would have been great to either add a local lunch to the itinerary, or take us to a local place for a snack between appointments.
But all in all, an interesting day with a very good guide.

We had a wonderful visit to the Toucan Rescue Ranch, and it was one of the highlights of our trip to Costa Rica. The animals are incredible, and the tour guides there are very knowledgeable, and the staff is amazing.
I highly recomendó taking an Uber from San José rather than signing up for this $150 “tour.” Our driver provided no helpful information and was not a guide, though he was prompt and courteous. You can purchase tickets for the TRR on line or on site for $35 per adult, and the Uber from San José is about $12 each way.

Dear client... THank you so much for your comments and we are glad to know you had a great time at the Ranch. Regarding what you mentioned about the driver, certainly it is a short drive from any Hotel in San Jose to the Ranch and the certified guides at the Ranch are ready to welcome you and provide you with the full information during the tour.
85% of the price you paid goes to the ranch funds as a donation that will help this place to continues with its good work taking care of injured animals. We would like to thank you again becuase with your visit you are being part of this great project.

Absolutely loved this experience. Guide was knowledgeable and we got to see four baby sloths up close as they climbed around and ate hibiscus flowers. The toucans were interesting as were the other birds and unexpected animals like a river otter. This place does great work and deserves your visit. On hikes or other tours you are lucky to catch a glimpse of many animals. Here you watch them where they are being cared for before a return (if possible) to their native habitat.

En verdad que uno no imaginaría que en el mero San José, en el campus de la UCR se encontraran tantas especies cuando uno da por descontado que no habría ningún tipo de fauna en una zona urbana. Para nuestra fortuna, José nos llevó por los secretos lugares de la UCR donde moran varias aves y hasta los perezosos. Con gran profesionalismo nos guió y quedamos muy felices, como la eterna expresión del perezoso. Altamente recomendable si hay poco tiempo y no se puede salir de la ciudad fácilmente.

This was a great tour! We loved seeing the baby sloths and learning more about them. Highly recommend this tour if you want to definitely see sloths while in Costa Rica.

We were picked up at the hotel on time and traveled inside an air-conditioned bus. There were only 6 of us so we had a small group and were able to ask all kinds of questions. Our Guide Omar was very knowledgeable.
We went on to a church and ox cart factory. Well worth the trip.
