Perfect trip, good food, great places, suitable for taking lots of pictures, lots of birds, serious company, punctual and excellent English level.

Very poor tour. Description should read travel in a van over two hours and watch the driver navigate through city traffic picking up and dropping off passengers like an airport hotel shuttle bus.
Hour drive to the volcano with no commentary as audio system doesn’t work. No attempt by guide will be made to speak loudly to overcome microphone issue. All passengers kept asking her to just speak louder but to no avail. She gave up talking to the group and just kept conversing with the driver. It did not matter as her command of English was basic and she was not able to understand many questions.
Return hour drive to city drive with no commentary either. Highlight at the end of your tour will be an additional hour driving back to six hotels dropping off passengers as an endless hotel shuttle bus through city traffic. Hotels never put this many stops, all spread out, on any shuttle and drive all over the city.
Snack included but not provided. Very poor tour. It’s not a tour when the drives have no narration. All our previous Viators have been excellent. Do not waste your time or money with this one. Worthless. More than 2 hours, or one third of the 6 hour tour is only pick up and drop off and no narrative. Do not book this tour! Requested partial refund and still waiting on tour operator to answer.

As we comment to all customers, you should check the itinerary and verify the duration of your tour, in this case the duration of your tour was 6.5 hours, of which we used 30 minutes for pick up and drop off, that is why the departure time is 30 minutes earlier according to your hotel. This is completely normal and we do not understand why you were so upset about it, in this case I recommend you to take a private tour so you will not have that problem in the future.
The guide is an excellent collaborator of ours for 5 years and we have never had any complaints about her, in fact we received the report that you and your friends were rude to her and the driver, the minibuses are new and as they are small they do NOT use an audio amplifier system, since it is a vehicle 4 meters long by 2 meters wide.
I hope you are very well, and in advance I tell you that making bad comments with different profiles will achieve absolutely nothing, in fact it makes the process even more difficult for you.

This is the second time I come to Costa Rica.
I love coming to Costa Rica, it is a country that has a lot to show.

Have guide give tour info
Couldn’t heat anything. Didn’t seem knowledgeable. Limited English for 10 Americans. Need to impresss how cold and wet at volcano. Felt it waste of time and money

Tour was not as advertised. 1/3 of time was picking up and dropping off guests. There was no tour of city, no snacks, really no commentary at all.
Sound system on van was broken, but guide’s English and knowledge was so weak as to make the few comments she made worthless.
All other Viatours I have taken have been excellent. Skip this one!!!

The tour is very deceptive in its description.
This is not a half day tour. TWO AND A HALF HOURS OF THE TOUR IS PICKING UP AND DROPPING OFF PEOPLE AT HOTELS. This is a material deceptive advertisement by not informing you of how your time is spent. They charged up pick up time from 6:30am to 6:00am at the last minute - now we know why. Just more pickups and endless driving. Thirty percent of your time is picking up and dropping of people. This is NOT TOURING.
Microphone did not work on the van so there was no narrative at all on the hour drive up or back from the volcano. Guide didn’t even try to speak loudly so people could hear. She just gave up. Her English was very weak and most everyone could not understand her. Commentary was minimal at best at volcano.
Worst waste of money and time spent. This is not professional guided tour. Will seek refund from Viator for services NOT provided.
Stay away from any tour from: Expediciones Tropicales or Summer Travel Costa Rica. Very poor reflection on Viator and Trip Advisor. I will think twice about ever booking through Trip Advisor again.
We had taken many tours from them before without a problem. Apparently they are no longer checking out the quality (or lack of) service provided. This ranks as the absolute worst tour ever and a refund should be given. Waste of time and money in Costa Rica. Had we known over two hours (30%) of your tour is picking up and dropping of people we would never have booked this.

Amazing experience to hike in the crater of an active volcano. There were beautiful views the whole way up and down to the top, as we got lucky with the clear weather. It was a bit shocking how cold it was at the top compared to being in San José. The church in Cartago was also a nice place to visit. Our guide Alejandro was great and so was our driver. With the half day trip, were back in town early enough to have a great lunch at La Esquina de Buenos Aires (the best Argentinian steakhouse in San José) and do some shopping.
