This was one of our highlights of Alaska. Short but beautiful helicopter ride, a real glacier and the stars of it all — amazing Alaskan huskies. We saw experienced dogs that had raced the Iditarod, as well as puppies that were born just a few weeks ago and everything in between. The dogs just stole our hearts (we promise we did not steal any, as tempting as it was!). The dog sledding was so much fun, and we so appreciated the care and attention of everyone, toward both the guests and the dogs.

We were in Alaska 3 weeks and this was by far the best activity I engaged in. Great staff, wonderful dogs. Mushers & pilots very experienced & knowledgeable. Loved the puppy time and meeting the team. Ride on sled was awesome. Beautiful scenery on flight up to glacier.

I have been to all 50 states now and 13 countries. I think this is the most fun excursion I’ve ever done. The view from the helicopter was breathtaking and arriving on the glacier, seeing the dogs, and experiencing the dogsledding seemed unreal. I highly recommend it, plus it wasn’t nearly as cold as I had thought it would be which was a plus. Julie was our guide and she was great!

To be fair, I work with dogs and I'm a huge dog nerd, so NATURALLY this would be a big part of my Alaska experience. But even if I wasn't super into dogs, the helicopter ride alone would have been mindblowing. Both the Alpine Air staff and the folks running the dog camp were 100% on top of their game as far as preparing you for what to expect, providing proper gear, and explaining/educating you as to what you're seeing/experiencing. Our experience was downright MAGICAL, from flying in a helicopter to meeting the puppies and helping to hook up the dogs to the sled (and even taking them from the sled to back to their kennels), I can't put into words just how incredible our three hours were. I had wondered if it would be worth the money, and the answer is YES! It totally is.

Took our 17 and 18 year old grandkids. This was the favorite activity they did in Alaska. They said the dog sledding guy was so interesting to listen to. Loved the flight. So scenic. Just a great Alaskan experience. I don't have pictures but the kids will put some on.

We had the most amazing, once in a lifetime experience dog sledding on Punchbowl Glacier! Everything from start to finish was incredible, from the office staff to the pilots and the mushers, all were so awesome and informative. This experience blew our expectations out of the water and will be something we share with all our family and friends. Thank you Alpine Air, we cannot say enough how much we loved flying up to the glacier and sledding with the dogs, it is worth every single penny!

Amazing views of the scenery both from the helicopter and on the glacier itself. Guides were awesome.
Best part of our trip to Alaska- riding the dogsleds on the Punchbowl Glacier.
Even stopped to take pictures of the sheep on the mountains
Dogs and puppies were adorable.
Most definitely worth every penny for the trip.

This was a bucket list item worth every penny. Starting with the professional office staff to the helicopter pilot to amazing mushers and dog handers on the glaciers and especially the dogs and puppies!
Brandon and Julie on the glacier answered all of our questions about the dogs; we got to play and hold 8 week and 1 week old puppies and then the highlight - the actual dog sled ride. My husband and I were able to switch from standing to sitting so we experienced the different views.
Highly recommend this once in a lifetime experience.
They provide waterproof covers for your your shoes, pants and jackets and they transported us back and forth to our hotel.

How long do you actually ride on the sled with the dogs? We are a party of four, can we all sled at the same time? What is the terrain for the sledding (flat vs drop offs)? Are there weight limits for this tour?

The ride was in a large circle, maybe a mile or so in length? It went around the dogsled camp on the glacier. It wasn't an extensive ride, but I didn't feel like it wasn't long enough. It was flat and smooth and when we went, they set up two sleds with dogs to run. So each sled had a person from the the company controlling the sled and one person standing on the sled in front of the driver and one person sitting down on the sled. My 10 and 13 year old went together and my husband and I went on the other sled. About halfway around the "track" we got off the sled, took a few photos, then traded places on the sled for the rest of the way.

We had a hire car and drove down to Girdwood. Not aware of any public transport or shuttle that goes there. Would give them a call and make sure you can get a booking, then perhaps ask about transport options.
