Excellent trip. Small boat meaning not lots of people !!! Personal service and experiences ! Excellent captain . Good value for money when most were far more and with a boatload of people !!
Don't book through your cruise ship but go independently!! Cruise ships take a good percentage from you making your excursion far more expensive than should be !!

We bought this excursion because it was advertised as “small group of 18, more time on the water”, neither of which is true. On the day we arrived in port from cruise for tour, we received a text letting us know that due to sea conditions a small boat would not be able to do the tour and instead of canceling our tour they would put us on a larger boat that seats 40 but is only half full. (That is 20). We were placed on a boat with 34 people, not operated by Harv and Marv as we purchased but operated by Lighthouse Tours. When we asked about that because we thought we were boarding the wrong boat we were told “they do tours for Harv and Marv”. By the way, there were several small boats on the water including canoes and kayaks pointed out by the crew. So that nullifies Harv and Marv claim that a small boat could not take us that day due to weather.
The tour was operated by 3 young people. The captain went over the safety briefing and introduced his colleagues, 2 young girls. One was the “naturalist”. The captain asked us to not open the door to the deck ourselves for safety because the door is heavy and winds can cause injury, to ask a member of staff to open when we need to be on deck. The naturalist who described herself as a “whale nut” was so involved with her own whale watching adventure, camera and all, that on several occasions we could not get out on deck because she was in the rear spotting “her whales” she was so involved in locating which whale it was she forgot to open the door for the rest of us.
Another reason for this poor review is that we never got as close to view the whales as other boats we observed. A passenger asked why we were not getting closer and the self described whale nut said they usually wait for the whales to come closer. I’ve never heard such nonsense before. To make it worse there were folks on board with friends and family in other boats texting videos and photos from their amazing tour. We never got close enough to properly view the whales. I could only conclude that the young man who was the captain did not have enough experience to do so or we were not going to go close so we would see another Harv and Marv small boat on the water, since we were lied to about our small boat tour.
Next was the time on the water. Harv and Marv advertised 3 hours on the water, after 2 hours it was announced that we were heading back to the pier. When I asked the “whale nut” about the time, she said she was about to let the passengers know that we have 15 minutes more and can do one more stop. So we had 2 hour and 15 mins on the water instead of 3 hours.
In summary:
1. Purchased small boat, small group of 18 tour, was placed on a large boat with 34 people. A bait and switch gimmick and done at a time when we had no options but to accept or lose out on the tour.
2. Tour was not operated by Harv and Marv but Lighthouse tours with 3 “children” at the helm
3. Bought tour with 3 hrs on the water, got 2 hours and 15 minutes.
We will NEVER tour with this company ever again. We have requested a refund.

Bre was an excellent guide. We are so happy we booked with this company. The staff was amazing and the ship was comfortable. They were very communicative with us prior to the trip. Highly recommend this operator.

Captain Charles and naturalist Jessie were wonderful. A great experience, saw many whales and plenty of other sea life. Top notch safe boat with all the safety equipment on board. Very friendly and knowledgeable crew, and even served snacks and drinks on board. And the van driver was a guide himself pointing out key places of interest.

Yes we saw whales but it was advertised as 'longer than the others' and '4 hours' and 'more time on the water' my voucher said 5pm-915pm but it was 5:40pm and we were stepping off the boat at 8:30pm. Right when we saw the best whale breach they said GREAT ENDING! THAT'S ALL FOLKS! And sped back. I was surprised they started so late and ended so early. Not as advertised. We still tipped the crew but I was disappointed in the timing. Good weather, boat fine, light outside, no reason to end so early. Paid almost $600 for 4 of us. Less than 3 hours on water.

We booked via a phone call the day before we docked in Junea. A quick and easy experience which could be either paid over the phone or via a link sent by email immediately after our call.
Clear joining instructions and we were met right at the end of the gangway.
We were fortunate to be upgraded to the 6 person boat and, in fact, there were only 5 of us. Our captain, Graham, gave us a good safety breifing and we were able to move around the inside, on the back deck or on the front of the boat which meant we felt we had the best views possible.
Lady nature was on our side and we saw 8 - 9 different whales with few other boats around (we took the 08.30 option). It felt like Graham genuinely wanted us to have the best experience, which we did!
You are also able to see the Glacier from the boat, which is a bonus.
Would reccomend.

Incredible, Incredible, Incredible! First of all, the staff, guides, and captain, they were all amazing! The naturalist was my favorite! He was funny and so smart! I wish we would have seen the whales a little closer, but I understand the laws and the reasons behind them. I wish I would have seen more than just a few tails in the water, but nonetheless, I loved this excursion. The sea lions were definitely my favorite. They make some funny noises, haha!

Short Version: BEYOND AWESOME - GREAT OUTING - DO NOT MISS
I did whale watching when I went to Hawaii, ended up on a big boat, and didn't see
anything while crammed in with about 30 people. It was terrible. In fact it was so bad that I did not book whale watching while in Alaska. My parents swore by Harv & Marvs, and they did book it while we were on a cruise together. My wife and I planned something else. But God is good, and he knew we wouldn't want to miss this! Our outing got cancelled, and my parents ended up sick with covid and we were able to take their reservation.
We saw no fewer than 20 individual whales. Our guide could name some of them based on tail markings and some by the way they acted. We saw a mom with a baby, and then later a pod of 6 whales all swimming together. That was an experience.
Our guide was excellent, and on the radio with the other captains to keep informed about what they were seeing in different areas. But he did not crowd and just follow others. He knew where he was going. But when the 6 pack was sighted, he was quick to get us there for a once in a life experience. We nearly got soaked by the blowhole clearing of one of the whales.

We booked the whale watching tour as it had a longer time on the water. We were not aware of how much we would see.
We were amazed at the amount of whales and sea lions we experienced. It was the most fabulous view seeing the whales up close. Was not expecting them within feet of the boat. Unfortunately my phone died before the real show of several pods and displays
The tour guides were awesome of sharing information and history of the land we were traveling through. Very interesting! They also shared how to look for the whales, finding their names, and their travels south and birthing.
Would highly recommend of you get to Juneau!
Also, much cheaper than others and small tours which are longer than others

Our guide was enthusiastic, but I don’t feel the captain was as in touch with the other captains to share sighting reports. We spent more than 15 minutes watching a sleeping whale, which is as exciting as it sounds.
We then followed a mom and baby from such a distance I never saw the baby. Finally we saw a pod or 4 or 5, again from a great distance.
Our boat was 1 level. It makes a huge difference to be on a second level in order to see, which we didn’t.
Customer service and pre-trip support were excellent. The boat was clean and well cared for.
3 days later in Ketchikan, fellow travelers saw bubble feeding. So did I in 2018 in Juneau. I know we were lucky, but I was still disappointed.

Our trip was about 3 hours. This is a great tour, but always safer to book thru the cruise line to assure you arrive back in time. Make sure both the cruise line and the tour operator is aware. Well worth it! Sorry I could not be of more help as far as the timeline.
Hi! We will be in Alaska at the end of August and are aware of the current covid-19 related quarantine rules and planning to follow them, We would like to take this tour, but a) have an 18 month old and want to know if you provide life jackets for that age and any other age who wants one and b) I see that you offer hotel pick up, but we would prefer to drive ourselves (five of us) just to minimize the risk of being in an enclosed space with others. Is this possible? Is it easy to park at the dock?

Are you able to accommodate a family of 9? We will be traveling with 6 adults and 3 children (8, 8, and 7 years old). We've heard wonderful things about Harv & Marv.

Yes, they can accommodate a group of 9. We had 8 in our family, and there were some extra seats. Just make your reservation early. We had a boat to ourselves. Great fun!

Sorry it has taken so long and I hope you are able to do your trip. There were children on our tour, but be advised that the ride to and from the whale grounds can be rough. Keep them close.
