African Budget Safaris is a great company!

Great company! We had our trip scheduled for July 2020 and had to reschedule due to Covid. So many issues came up during the scheduling and rescheduling and Claire was available during the process (even during her maternity leave!). Johannesburg went into level 4 lockdown less than 24hrs before our flight and Claire was amazing! She was amazing getting us last minute flights out of Johannesburg. She kept in touch the entire trip and went above and beyond to make sure everything went smoothly. I can’t say enough about how great she was and what a wonderful time we had. This was supposedly a “budget” safari, but felt 1st class the whole time.

A wonderful tour

I spent 4 days with Viva Safaris on the lodge/tent package, and my only regret is not staying for 5 or 6 days instead. The accomodation in Marcs' Camp was very simple since it was a tent/bamboo cabin with just a bed and a fan in it, but that was expected and gave an authentic ''bush-feeling''. There was monkeys and Nyalas (?) around the breakfast area and the huts and tents, and late in the evenings we could hear wild dogs. The food was delicious in both Tremisana and Marcs', and the staff really did their best to make sure everyone had a good time and made us all feel very welcome. One evening the electricity shut off because off load shedding (happens in all of South Africa from time to time), and since it is a bit far to the tents and treehouses the staff showed everyone the way back with a flashlight. Even though it was unexpected it was special to walk in the bush with just a flashlight and hear all the sounds around you, so definately an evening I will remember even if it was not part of the plan.

We saw plenty of animals in both Balule and Kruger, and almost all of the big 5 except the leopard. So I have to come back one day to see leopards. I had big expectations for Kruger and not so big expectations for Balule, but when I left I actually liked Balule more because of the offroad driving and more open vehicles, and our guides Rex and Elias did a great job spotting animals for us. We didn't see as many animals in Kruger as in Balule, probably because it was a very hot day (close to 40c), but it was a nice experience none the less. The bushwalks was also very interesting, both in Marcs and the Oliphant River.

I can definately recommend Viva Safaris for a good safari.

Hi Havard What an equally WONDERFUL review !!! I am pleased that you appreciated the " authentic bush feeling" at Marcs. Even more pleasing is the fact that the staff did their best to ensure you had a great time on safari and that "delicious" food was prepared. Pity about the leopard - hopefully on your next visit you will see one of these secretive cats. Thanks for mentioning Rex and Elias by name - they are legends of the Bush ! Not as I expected

Four days of Safari were good with Viva Safari. A beautiful nature and dryness. Without the help of Marco, I was not able to book Safari. Two other men were the hospitality that unfortunately forgot their name.But what should you know is that the Safari's experience with Viva is a kind of base. Like to enter the primary school. In my opinion, Masai Mara can be a better experience for professional safari. In addition, the room I was staying in it, was very small. No sofa and no wifi. I did not have comfortable.

Hi We are pleased that you were happy on your 4 day safari. It is unfair to compare Kruger to Masai Mara - there are different aspects to both places. Similarly if you had booked our Katekani Lodge safari package, you would have had more pampering. Essentially your expectations should be predicated on the amount you spend. Be well Piero

Dépaysement garanti et superbe expérience

Organisation sans faille, bon rapport qualité/prix, personnel très accueillant. Le souper au milieu du Bush, les deux walk à pied avec guide armé ont été une superbe expérience, ainsi que les deux nuits dans une cabane dans les arbres, les petits déjeuners au bord de la rivière. En plus, grosse chance d'avoir vu 9 lions !

Unforgetable

My son and I experienced an unforgettable 4 day safari with Viva Safaris. This well run organisation provides excellent service all round from super professionalism to family warmth. An amazing effort was made by enthusiastic rangers to provide a full South African bush experience. The accommodation was comfortable, charming and clean in surroundings shared by mischevous monkeys, graceful nyala buck and other distinguished animal guests. We recommend this safari most highly and thank Viva for an un forgettable experience.

Bumping into a giraffe while going to the shower.

Viva Safaris lived up to all expectations. I was met at the airport as planned and everything went according to the schedule. From Johannesburg, it is a 6 hour drive to Kruger park and our accommodations. The drivers were very good and we stopped for a lovely lunch halfway at Dullstrom. There was also another quick bathroom stop along the way. On the return trip we briefly stopped at Blyde canyon for some breathtaking views and lunch once more in Dullstrom. The Tremisana lodge was basic and the food not very good but the staff was very nice. It is a very small, enclosed compound with not much to do in between activities. The rangers who took us on bush walks and drives were absolutely wonderful and full of information about the animals and environment. One night there was just right. Marc's camp was a delight! No electrical fences here , wildlife walking around and wide open spaces to explore. My tent was quite far from the main lodge but that added to the charm for me. I had come prepared with head lamps and flashlights. The food was good and the outdoor dining area very pleasant with a bonfire every night. The staff carry slingshots to scare away the cheeky monkeys. I saw a giraffe roaming near the river when I went for my shower and heard a leopard nearby during the night. His paw prints were in the sand near my tent the next morning! Even though it was only 4 days, not a moment was wasted and I loved every minute.
