So we had friends who went to the same place just the week before and they couldn’t believe how much better our experience was and it’s all because of this guy! The Cape Town Local. You will not regret booking with him. Absolute BEST!

Mother's day weekend with The Capetown Local

We were a group of 10 beautiful, strong and adventurous women, looking for a challenge and we got way more than we bargained for. From epic views, to challenging climbs, to sleeping in the cave and exploring the phenomenal Cederburg mountains. It was an experience of a lifetime and this was all thanks to the coolest, most competent hiking guide called The Capetown Local (Tariq Gamildien). He is definitely the epitome of the saying, "local is lekker". and someone I will trust with my life in the wild. We experienced the cold Cederburg nights and crisp mornings, with rock climbing, chains, ladders, cracks and the infamous Cedarburg cracks.

Biggest Challenge of my life...after a marathon!

Hi all! I knew I was getting into an adventure, but this was a lot more than I expected. Please know that you must be physically capable of hiking AND rock climbing for about 4 hours. Be sure to wear long sleeves and leggings/pants to cover your legs (you will need protection against the photoactivated poisonous plant - forgot name). I had a amazing time, and got support from my hiking crew. This was my birthday challenge and it did not disappoint. I was COMPLETELY exhausted at the end and happy to get back to my hotel, but I got some amazing photos! Well worth it if you are looking for a challenge!

An amazing scramble and hike

First of all, Idris was exceptional. A terrific guide who displayed a calm and reassuring demeanor no matter the situation. The "hike" on India Venster was a little more challenging than anticpated. We absorbed it well but a lot more "scrambling" than I expected. There is plenty of hiking but some of the other stuff as well. I had a bout a 20 pound pack and if I had known how we were going to need to scramble, I would have packed much lighter. Less water in fact. I ended up having to take off my pack and toss it to the next ledge before climbing the rocks. We wouldn't trade the experience for anything. The challenges made it more rewarding, but this hike is not for the feeble. Some strength and endurance is needed. We are so glad we hiked to the top. It was cloudy all day there and by hiking, we got to enjoy some amazing vistas we wouldn't have seen if only riding the cable car. The cable car is very crowded and only a handful of people could really see anything. Hike it! It's the only way to go. Again, kudos to Idris.

Table Mountain Hike and Cable car down

Tauriq was my guide. The experience was excellent. If you like rock climbing and hiking, the route definitely has its fair share of scrambling. Tauriq was very friendly and accommodating, and his experience/knowledge of the routes, fauna and flora are super valuable. you definitely need a guide to do the India Venster route for safety, it is easy to get lost and some of the flora can be caustic or sharp if you're not looking out for it. I strongly recommend him, and i will seek him out when i return to do more challenging routes.

We really could not recommend this experience enough!! Hiking with Miles was the highlight of our 2 week trip to Cape Town. He is highly experienced, knowledgeable, patient, kind and generous. Under his keen guidance we had experience of a lifetime, both challenging ourselves and experiencing the amazing views. Thank you so much Miles for giving us this extraordinary experience!!

A Challenge to Brag About

This was a fabulous hike/climb for those who are physically fit and are ready for a level B climb. If you are not able to lift yourself up or if you have knee issues this is NOT for you. Our guide Miles was superb! He was an excellent instructor as well as a guide. He's been climbing the mountain since he was a teen and knows its intricacies and how to handle the finicky weather. I felt totally safe with him. I highly recommend it for those up for a challenge and a wonderful experience with an amazing view.

Adventure of a Life Time
Get ready for an extraordinary experience led by Miles, an exceptionally experienced guide. He effectively communicated prior to the event, including what to bring to be best prepared. Prior to our ascent, he explained safety protocols, as well as, what we might expect from the mountain conditions. His generosity included bringing light snacks and delicious hot tea for our break. Miles was encouraging, motivating and helpful throughout the entire hike. Thank you, Miles!

Our day started with an early 5:45 am meet up. Don’t be put off by the early morning. It is quite a treat to experience the mountain as the day begins to wake up. Additionally, an early morning provides relief from potential heat as the hike progresses. We reached the summit in approximately 4 hours. Slow and steady is the way to go.

The hike, while not long (roughly 5km) was a personal challenge. We warmed up with a combination of level ground and slight incline before moving on to more complex terrain. Be prepared to hike, scramble across and over rocks and climb rock faces. It is quite an exhilarating experience and a personal sense of accomplishment to say the least.

The views are spectacular!! You will not regret taking this route up with the cable car ride down. Additionally, don’t be discouraged by clouds on the base of the mountain. The higher you go, fog and cloud layers can potentially shift, leaving you with grand opening of the skies and incredible views.

Words of advice…dress for a proper hike, layers, protective shoes, water is essential, small backpack to carry items (you’ll need your hands to be free), be open to the challenge and the beauty.

In a nutshell…my body, mind, emotions and spirit were all stimulated, conditioned and awakened on this journey.

Highly recommend this excursion led by Miles and this tour company!

Best way to experience Table Mountain
Incredible experience. Can’t believe we hiked this intimidating mountain! Miles was an incredibly professional, patient and friendly guide who made sure that all of us moved safely as a team. He even surprised us with hot tea, sandwiches and snacks during a pit stop in the middle of the mountain! Super grateful for not only the climb but also the bonding as a team. Thank you so much Miles!

A bucket list experience

A tryout memorable experience. I’m nearly 60 and reasonably fit and it was quite a challenge but Tauriq was an excellent guide and helped everyone in the group with patience and skill. Highly recommended.
