A 90 minute walk around the area of Bo-Kaap with a local guide which included a taste of the local cuisine. Very informative talk - full of interesting historical facts.

ILYAS was very knowledgeable, lives in the area and is a 6 th generation resident .
We had an insight into the history of Bo Kaap its residents , religion , and modern times . We had a very interesting tour seeing and learning about historical buildings , mosques, local industry, artists and were invited in by a resident to her home for a home made delicious snack . We met some local people and learned about community programs and met some of the volunteers too . We had such a great time we stayed to explore more and had lunch in a local cafe serving delicious home made food .

The tour guide was a wonderful man, authentic and from the heart. He provided us with the backgrounds and how it all came about and very socially moved. Don't lose him for your organization great man and very nice experience

We thought it would be a small group but it was private just for us which was fantastic. Our guide was so committed and gave us a really good experience. Highly recommended.

Siddiqi was very knowledgeable and proud about the culture and history of the neighborhood, particularly having grown up and lived there. The tour was well organized, and well paced. We ended our tour at the spice shop across the street from the museum. Wish I had been better prepared to purchase some spices.

Fantastic Guide, which told the story of Bo Kaap in a dynamic and very noticeable way. The Guide was born in Bo Kaap so he really knows a lot about the neighborhood.
The neighborhood itself is beautiful and in the end we still had the right to a typical sweet little South African.

We joined the Bo Kaap walking tour the morning after arriving in Cape Town, when our trip to Robben Island was cancelled due to the weather. The team were really helpful in accommodating us last minute and gave us clear instructions for where to meet our guide. We met Ilyas outside the Bo Kaap museum, and were warmly welcomed before proceeding on the really interesting and enjoyable tour of the area. Ilyas, having grown up in the area, was very passionate and informative, and gave the tour with a constant smile in his face. From visiting the commuity garden to freshly home-baked doughnuts, the whole tour was a great way to spend our first morning in Cape Town and we would definitely recommend to others. Thank you Ilyas!

How steep or difficult is the area to walk to? How far from the Cape Grace Hotel? Walk or ride?

It is 1.4 miles from the Cape Grace Hotel to 71 Wales Street. Google Maps indicates it would take approximately 30 minutes and the terrain is mostly flat. We found it to be an easy walk to the starting point from Mutual Heights.
